Lots of hopes coming into the World Cup but whilst he failed as a batter in the tournament (so far), he can hold his own in bowling.

Questions really are:

1. Does he have the will to stay on?
2. Does Naqvi want him out?

Time will tell.
 
I think it's pretty obvious that he will retire. Seemed to me like bringing him and Amir back was a one-shot deal for this World Cup, regardless of how well or how poorly they did at the World Cup.

As much as I like Imad, I don't think it makes much sense to continue with him considering his age, his deteriorating state of fitness and the fact that the next T20 World Cup is two years away.
 
I think Imad will quit once again. As a batter, he was bad, good though in bowling but I think PCB just wanted him back for this world cup and I am not sure if he is going to play for Pakistan in the future.
 
He should retire and Pakistan should seek to move away from bits and pieces spinners.
 
If he’s smart, he will distance himself from International cricket and focus on T20 contracts in CPL, BPL etc which he was already doing. Make the money.

He knows PCB is a mess and always will be. 2 years time when the decline continues, perhaps he’ll fight his case again to be in the T20 World Cup knowing PCB foolishly will accept his return.

He's done now, but I wanna make it clear. This war started because people could not handle the fact that he booted rizwan from KK.

Loyal fans only wanted imad back because nawaz was infuriating and frankly speaking agha should have replaced shadab as well.

However fans had to make it a bollywood war between him and babar because how dare babar be questioned as a batsmen. Arei kakei, let it rest, Babar in tournaments is worse then shehzad despite playing double the matches including matches against minnows. Inad had every right to bash babar and boot rizwan from his team

The PCB is a mess but one of the biggest messes in this WC was Imad playing dot balls and going for leisurely jogs in the middle overs.

He has already distanced himself from international cricket with that performance.

Chills at short fine leg as a fielder or fields at short cover

Bowls 4 overs
Bats under pressure
Smokes a cig, picks up his paycheque

He gives no damns anymore. Deal with it
 
If the CT is in Pakistan and the format is changed to T20's, then him and Amir have to stay.

Imad playing against USA would have made a huge difference.

Shadab and Iftikhar conceded 37 runs.

Imad concedes at most 20-25 runs.

Imad’s drama has come to an end.

People forgot over the last two years how crap he was and making statements on tv fooled people into thinking that he was some great reader of the game.

But no one will forget his ugly innings vs India that exposed him as the mentally weak, limited and timid fraud that he is who can talk a good game but can’t walk it.

His stock has tanked and PCB will not go back to him even if the team is struggling badly, because it has been proven beyond any doubt that Imad adds nothing to the team.
 
Should be dropped. His official age is 35. Pakistan should look for a younger option.

After the match against Ireland - we will sit down and talk and then decide. I don't do anything secretly. I told everyone when retired last time - If something happens, I will come and tell everyone.
 
If he has even 1% doubt about playing for his country, he should just retire and never comeback. We can't afford this kind of trend where PCB begs to players to comeback out of nowhere and ignore domestic players who are doing well on consistent basis.

Imad needs to think about it and should be available to play for Pakistan till he retires for good.

Babar’s century vs NZ in the 2019 World Cup or the 196 vs Australia are bigger than Imad’s entire career.

Whatever Babar does from this point in career won’t change the fact that he is a completely different league to Imad.

WC2019 and 196 resulted in NOTHING

What we're the openers doing in the powerplay chasing 120 off 120 balls sleeping?

All the whoooo haaaa how rizwan and babar are the best openers only to chicken out and given the game to tailenders to finish

Other teams are chasing 40 in 3 overs

There is no rivalry between the two players because Babar wipes the floor with Imad & always has.

The only noise in the last two years came from Imad’s mouth whose ego got bruised when Babar dropped him after months of poor performances in 2021.

His ego got bruised further when he lobbied to replace Babar as Kings captain in 2023. Babar went to Zalmi as captain & his Zalmi team finished above Imad’s Kings, completely destroying the myth surrounding Imad’s captaincy.

This World Cup was a great chance for Imad to prove that he was mistreated & that Pakistan missed him in the last two years, but he bottled it & played one of the worst innings we have ever seen, pushing Pakistan out of the door & reinforcing the fact that Imad was not mistreated & he would have not uprooted any trees for Pakistan in the last two years.
 
Imad was always a decent ODI player and should have been taken to the 2023 World Cup...

He should retire as the cricket administration is pathetic and nothing is going to change until the PCB is overhauled

Why did Babar go unsold at the Hundred whereas Imad bagged £50k?

Admit it, in terms of T20 cricketer pedigree…Imad had a value whereas Babar is a waste of money, is also a liability.

Sharjeel is a washed up, rubbish player who can’t even perform in the Sindh PL these days which is several notches below international cricket.

On these NY pitches, Sharjeel would have been lucky to last 5 balls in each innings. He is as good as a tailender these days.

Also, had Fakhar opened, he would have done exactly the same as he did in the middle-order, play a couple of shouts and throw it away which would have forced the same situation.

This also proves my point that had Pakistan not selected Amir & Imad, people would have been adamant that they would have won the USA & India matches for Pakistan.

Imad played as a frontline spinner and averaged 60+ with the ball vs the top ODI sides. That is not decent by any means. He was a liability & rightfully dropped.

Babar is Pakistan’s captain, he has way more fans & admirers around the world, he commands a lot more respect & he has made a lot more money.

30-40 years from now, Pakistani fans at the time will know who Babar was because his legacy as one of Pakistan’s finest batsman will be last forever, but Imad will just be another random name on the scorecard that no one will know much about.

As far as The Hundred is concerned, it is a fabulous concept run by incompetent people.

This is why it has been a flop tournament that has failed to capture the imagination of cricket fans around the world.

The Hundred as a format can kill off T20 cricket just like the 50 over ODIs killed off the 60 over ODIs, but it has been a failure so far because it is run by people who know idea what they are doing.

Getting picked or not picked by the Hundred draft does nothing to the legacy & status of any player.

I said decent, especially when it comes to his batting. Theoretically, World Cup being in India would have helped his bowling too.

The thought process for selecting him was flawed as is pretty much every decision made by the inept and corrupt PCB
 
I have no logic or a reason to fully justify my statement, but what if they if make Imad the captain, sort of transitional phase leader.

That would set the cat among the pigeons…..

That century was the reason Pakistan couldn’t recover their NRR to qualify for the semis. He always bottles it in the big games.

What?

Pakistan got nuked by the West Indies in the first game itself and from then on, recovering the NRR was impossible.

We lost crucial games to India and Australia to be rightfully booted out.
 
Probably retire. The guy isn’t the fittest either, he’s only going to decline from here. He should be playing in Shadab’s spot but what’s the point of playing Imad for a year, and then when he retires unbench Shadab.

He should have been a regular in the side. But he was wrongly left out. I’m not a fan of bringing back players for one last triumph, it doesn’t build for the long term, and gives way too much importance to one individual event.

Pakistan’s NRR was destroyed because of getting shot for 103 vs WI in their first game of the tournament, a total that WI razed in 13.4 overs.

Pakistan had one foot out of the door since, and they had to win at least three out of their four matches vs England, India, Australia & NZ and they won only two, one of which was thanks to Babar.

Babar was the main factor for the fact that Pakistan stayed in the hunt for a semifinal birth until the very end. He was the only top-order batsman who scored runs.

The likes of Fakhar, Imam and Hafeez were walking wickets throughout the tournament.

Certainly the ideal number 4. The only one along with Babar who was capable of maintaining 45+ average at 90 SR.

A fit & firing Haris would have made Pakistan’s middle-order so much stronger.

A vastly superior batsman compared to Misbah & Younis (white ball).

Not taking anything away for Babar. Its his greatest innings to date and deserves praise.

Bout it was a collective effort.

He had an alright international career prior to the WC and was the fans favourite 'if only Imad was in the team we would've won'.

But now that knock against India will forever haunt him and taint this portrayal of 'mentally strong' . He shouldn't have come back.

Did well with the ball. Batted like a tailender throughout. Fitness is a concern. Doubt he'll stay. But he'll have his fanbase just like many others. In short, no one care what happens to Pak Cricket.

Honestly, I think Abrar could have a done a great Job too against the Irish...
The wicket was doing everything including taking turn.

Imad was selected for his tight bowling and more so for his potential with the bat. I say potential because, although he has done well with the bat in ODI's, he's never produced this in form in T20's (except for a few PSL games here and there).

He's a number 7 batsman at most, in limited overs format.

When you select an all-rounder, you have to look at all-round contributions. Imad was OK with the ball and in these conditions, any spinner would be OK unless you are Shadab Khan who at this point, is nothing more then a part-time bowler.

Imad's pathetic batting meant that overall, he had a negative impact on the team. Besides, the propaganda behind his selection peaked when he played a match-winning innings vs PZ in the PSL Eliminator, so he was a selected with a lot of expectations from his batting.

Agreed both Babar & Rizwan failed in that game and everytime in the past in all big games. Babar doesn't deserve to be in T20 side anymore, his achievement for the team after playing 123 T20Is is zero. Imad completely spoiled the run chase against India with his clear lack of intent, he was criticising the team management from TV studio but when he got his chance, he failed miserably.

He’s still Pakistan’s best slow bowler. One of the best in the world actually.
 
The key is what Imad himself wants.

-Does he want to improve his fitness.

-Did he like the taste of international cricket again.

-Does he really want this.

-Does he think he can be an asset to the 50 over game and be an asset in Champions Trophy 2025.

If the answer is a yes to all these questions, then I am backing Imad again.

Amir I can somewhat understand. Even Shoaib Malik etc I can understand . Can someone explain why Imad Wasim someone keeping his “amazing talent” aside was a mediocre cricketer statistically become that indispensable in Pakistan cricket? Is he politically connected or something?

Have nothing against him personally.

For the last tournament. He didn’t care about fitness, he didn’t badly want to play internationals. He knows however he is an asset when played, and proved it last tournament even though it was more his bowling.

It’s kind of frustrating, this clearly isn’t the best he could be, but it’s good enough for the team.

Probably will be the same story next tournament. We’d probably be better off Shadab regaining form instead as he is for the future. But currently Imad even not at his best wipes the floor with him right now.

I get Amir’s call back less. We already have three decent pacers in Shaheen, Naseem and Haris who have had international success to some degree. A few other hopeful young pacers. And all are more for the long term. Amir is more skilled but past his best. There are options.

There isn’t any good spin allrounders right now that even compete with Imad right now. Hardly any spinners can bat in Pakistan. Doesn’t matter that overall he is a worse player than Amir as. The alternative is Shadab but even it seems both are playing in the same team.

Bro they turned it into a war due to Imad talking smack about Babar and removing rizzu from his psl team and Obviously it's a direct attack to Misbah. In the same way the inzi vs Misbah thread is mostly just anger towards inzi for keeping Misbah out during the 2000's in the MO.

Regardless the debate was always between imad and Nawaz. People turned it into imad vs ATG's lol.
 
Impressive spell by Imad Wasim in MLC 2024.. got 2 important wickets of Finn Allenn and Jake Fraser-McGurk after giving just 28 runs in 4 overs.

I agree Imad did look slightly disinterested, a bit of credit goes to Babar for that.

Imad’s knee issue is not of his own making though. This is just nature taking its course.

Imad is never a top 6 batter. Never. But still we are such a garbage team with a garbage think tank, that they see Imad as their Michael Bevan.

The thing though is that even a disinterested, unfit Imad looked very good for Pakistan. Just imagine what a fully fit and motivated Imad (the bowler who can bat) will do.

Like I said I would have a convo with Imad and see if he willing to work hard under Rizwan/Shan.

Which Top league is hiring Rizwan or Shan?

Why must he have to focus working hard under them? Why not they under him?
