Think time to let him go! No place for him looks like a lost soul.

have to keep him, no one will be willing to give him even 50% of the wages arsenal are.

Sell him. He doesn't seem happy at Arsenal

Hrs been on a bit of a decline lately. The controversies haven't helped either.

Play him. Emery trying to lay down the law in a way he couldn't with Neymar. No way mkhitaryan offers more!. Treated very unfairly and Emery took exception to his Germany resignation; he should've been protecting him but seemed to suggest, given he hadn't yet managed him, that he was at fault.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery says "the key is in Mesut Ozil's hands" as the midfielder tries to regain his first-team place.

Ozil, 30, is the Gunners' highest-paid player, having signed a £350,000-a-week contract in 2018, but has started only 13 of 26 league games this season.

"He needs to be consistent in training and for matches, without injury or being sick," Emery said.

"Like that, we can see the best Mesut with us."

Ozil has played 216 times for Arsenal since joining from Real Madrid for a then club-record £42m in 2013.

But he has started only one game since Boxing Day, with injuries and "tactical reasons" given as explanations for the German's absence during the campaign.

Last month, Emery defended his decision to leave Ozil out of the starting line-up and in December said the midfielder still has a future at the club.

The Gunners trail Bate Borisov 1-0 from the first leg of their Europa League last-32 tie and speaking before Thursday's second leg, Emery said: "The key is in his hands and he is working very well this week."

They aren't going to be able to shift him without some creative deal making. There are plenty of clubs who would be happy to have him, but very few would be willing to pay his current salary, and I don't think he'll want to take a pay cut to move.

Arsenal should let him go for free if they want him off the wage book. Nobody is going to pay a transfer fee for him AND match his salary. However, if they can sign him for free they may well pay him the mega bucks he thinks he’s worth.

Seems he is still around!

Starting for Arsenal in Europa League

He's awesome versus middling teams. Not great against the top sides but surely he isn't solely responsible as Arsenal as a whole aren't

Give him the arm-band, give him a free-role in the middle of the pitch and stop asking him to defend, that is not part of his game. Then just sit back and watch the magic. However, if Arsenal want to remain a mediocre team, they can continue misusing their most skillful player and someone who honestly deserved a better team.

Ozil should have stayed in Madrid.

Need to find a way to get rid of him and free up the wage budget a bit.

Cape Town - Major League Soccer outfit DC United are reportedly eyeing a move for Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil as they look to replace Derby-bound Wayne Rooney.

Ozil struggled to impress new Arsenal head coach Unai Emery last season and often found himself sidelined for the bigger games.

That is despite the fact he signed a new deal in February 2018 making him the highest-paid player in the history of the club.

His wage of £350 000 a week eclipses most of the players in the current Arsenal squad and could prove a stumbling block in an attempt to move him on, with injury and illness also ruling him out of a number of games over the last couple of seasons.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic wowed by seven-year-old's US national anthem rendition

Seven-year-old Malea Emma received special praise from LA Galaxy star Zlatan Ibrahimovic following her performance of the US national anthem ahead of Galaxy's match against Seattle in the MLS.

Ozil has been linked with a move to Fenerbahce recently but the Turkish club couldn't afford to pay his huge wages.

The Washington Post was the first to report interest from DC United in Ozil, with a deal likely to go through during the January transfer window.

And now ESPN FC says that their sources have confirmed that DC United 'will hold talks this week with representatives of Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil'.

The news coincides with the announcement that Wayne Rooney will leave the club to move to Derby County in a player/coach role from January.

Keep him and use him. Getting £30m but still having to pay his wages isn't going to help.

Loan Coutinho, bench Ozil, put Mkhitaryan for sale in January.

Buy Coutinho next summer, put Ozil for sale. If he isn’t sold, keep him on the bench for another reason and don’t give him a contract extension in 2021.

Ideally we will move him on. His wages are too big for someone who is not consistent and on the decline .

Mesut Ozil fears he could have played his last game for Arsenal .

Arsenal are plotting ways of trying to offload the £350,000-a-week star in January and are ready to subsidise his wages after Ozil fell out of favour with Unai Emery.

Gunners boss Emery insisted that Ozil did not “deserve” to be starting ahead of some of the club’s youngsters and his Arsenal career now looks over.

Ozil, who turns 31 next week, believes there is no way back and it appears the club are ready to draw a line in the sand and get rid of the World Cup winner.

Former Germany star Ozil has been quite clear in the past that he does not want to leave Arsenal and loves living in London.

But there appears to be a realisation that Ozil does not fit into Emery’s plans or philosophy and the Spaniard has not been impressed with his attitude in training.

Emery has been reluctant to pick Ozil for away games because of a lack of work rate and, despite being named as one of the club’s five captains in a dressing room vote, the club want to move him on.

There was interest from Major League Soccer in the summer but the worry is no one can afford his wages while Arsenal know they will have to pay a huge chunk of his contract if they let him go to another European club.

It is a sad end to Ozil’s time in English football as he was a £42.5million superstar when he arrived at Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013.

But despite winning the World Cup during that time, he has rarely captured his best form for Arsenal and is now heading for the exit.

I think he needs more money.
Give him w pay rise

Giving him such a contract was silly but this Ozil one of the great players of the world. I know he's been poor in the last couple of years but he's only 30. It's the managers fault if he cannot motivate any player to give 100% on the field of play.

I'd take Ozil at Liverpool, we would end up scoring another 30 goals per season.

Ozil is a strange player. He is brilliant at what he does best, but he is shockingly awful at things he is not good at.

You give him space and time on the ball and he will pass like Messi and Zidane, but if you don’t give him space and time he won’t look any better than a random midfielder playing for a bottom-half Championship club.

You have to work very hard in Klopp’s teams and even more so when you don’t have the ball. A lazy bum like him with a terrible work rate won’t last a week. With him in the midfield, Liverpool might score 10 more goals but they will concede 50 more.

Ozil’s stock has dwindled alarmingly since 2016. He is not even rated by his own country anymore, and there is a good reason why none of the big clubs in Europe came in for him when his contract talks with Arsenal broke down.

He is done at the top level. No stronger club than Arsenal are going to be interested anymore because he is a liability 70% of the team. Giving him a bumper contract was absurd because he is not good enough for that money + Arsenal won’t be able to sell him for a big fee.

The rumors of him getting loaned to Fenerbahce are probably true. That is his level and stature in 2019.

Ozil had the world at his feet from 2010-2012. He was talked about as potentially one of the greatest players ever and a future Ballon d’Or winner, but he didn’t have the intensity and the mentality to evolve as a player and take his game to the next level.

will have Gareth bale and Alexis Sanchez problem

cant afford wages

It will end up like Sanchez. He will be loaned to Fenerbahce with Arsenal agreeing to pay half his wages until his contract runs out much to everyone’s delight.

I dont know whats wrong with the Manager. If your expensive asset sits on the bench most of the time and you play other players then get rid of him by either loaning or selling him.

This is one aspect of Wenger as he understood the financial aspects as a Football Manager

Where is Mezut Ozil?

It must be a question Arsenal boss Unai Emery is getting tired of answering. Or, sort of answering.

The German midfielder has made just one Premier League start for Arsenal this season and has now been left out of the Gunners' last four matchday squads.

On Monday, his absence prompted more questions, with Arsenal badly lacking any creativity as they fruitlessly tried to break down a solid Sheffield United defence.

In the end, the Blades won 1-0 while Arsenal slumped to another defeat on the road.

Sheffiuled United stun Arsenal to move into top 10
Asked by BBC Sport if Ozil was available, Gunners boss Unai Emery simply replied with: "He can help us, yes."

BBC Radio 5 live summariser Chris Sutton, however, believes Emery should be more forthcoming.

"It would be nice if Unai Emery just came out and said and then we would know instead of us guessing," he said.

"Is it a lack of commitment? We know he's a quality player but do we think he's lost his guile? His awareness? His touch?

Of course we don't - so what's the problem?

That, it seems, is the question on many people's lips.

Why has he not played this season?
Since joining Arsenal six years ago, Ozil has missed 101 games for the Gunners but has only had one major injury in that time.

Most of his absences have been explained away by illness or minor niggles, while he missed Arsenal's season opener against Newcastle along with team-mate Sead Kolasinac because of security concerns after they were involved in an attempted car-jacking.

Kolasinac, however, has long since returned to the squad but Ozil has appeared and then disappeared, sometimes because of fitness, sometimes because Emery has felt other players have been more deserving of a chance.

Mesut Ozil & Sead Kolasinac 100% mentally ready - Emery
Arsenal? Emery? Ozil? Who is to blame?
Former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie believes this is a situation Arsenal could and should have handled better.

"It's definitely mismanagement," he told BBC Radio 5 live.

"This is the problem these days in football, these bumper contracts players are getting and when they're not performing, it's coming straight to the headlines of how much money he earns and what he does.

"Whether Mesut Ozil is going to turn a corner - and I don't think he is - it just seems like there is a massive issue behind the scenes as to why he's not playing.

"On his day he's a world-class player but when you're earning that type of money, then you are going to come under scrutiny for earning that money and not playing.

Twitter
Sutton, however, believes only Ozil himself can truly resolve the issue.

He said: "I don't care how much Mesut Ozil is paid, the main thing is how he's is performing on the pitch in an Arsenal shirt - and he's not.

"We aren't party to how Arsenal train or what's goes on but if Ozil was doing that well - and we know what a superb talent he is - Unai Emery would know what impact he would have on the team, so he would play him, because he wants to win games and improve.

"There must be something amiss and it looks Ozil will have to sort this situation out himself.

"Arsenal have either got to ship him out and just bite the bullet, or they've got to get him back playing in the side, but it's been down to their own doing and I feel they've caused their own problems."

Do Arsenal miss him?
The statistics would suggest so.

Since Ozil made his debut for the Gunners, no player has created more chances than him. In fact, no-one comes even close.

Premier League (since Ozil's debut)
Player Chances created
Mesut Ozil 522
Aaron Ramsey 272
Santi Cazorla 190
Olivier Giroud 183
Granit Xhaka 121
He has also been the club's top assist maker in three of their last six seasons, although admittedly did not feature in the top three of the list in the last campaign.

Premier League (since Ozil's debut)
Season Player Assists
2013-14 Mesut Ozil 9
2014-15 Sanit Cazorla 11
2015-16 Mesut Ozil 19
2016-17 Alexis Sanchez 10
2017-18 Mesut Ozil 8
2018-19 Alexandre Lacazette 8
Against Sheffield United, the influence of the midfield five of Nicolas Pepe, Granit Xhaka, Joe Willock, Matteo Guendouzi and Bukayo Saka paled in comparison to the Blades.

They managed two key passes between them compared to five for the Sheffield United midfield.

What does Ozil say?
Ozil has been quiet on the matter for a long time, but recently provided some insight into the situation he finds himself in.

Speaking to The Athletic, he said: "When I signed the new deal (in 2018) I thought about it very carefully.

"I didn't want to stay for just one or two more years, I wanted to commit and the club wanted me to do the same.

"You can go through difficult times, like this, but that is no reason to run away and I'm not going to. I'm here until at least 2021.

"Whenever people see me in the street I always say, 'This is my home'. I'm going nowhere."

Ozil on his way to fenerbahce in January, Shame but at least he’s got a new club which is more than u can say for the likes of ben arfa

A parting of ways is inevitable - not in the squad today vs Crystal Palace

He needs to take a massive pay cut and get out of there.

What good is 350k x 2 years to you if it’s destroying your entire legacy and reputation?

Ozil will not die poor, he should go and play some football in his life

A second man has pleaded guilty to attempting to rob watches from Arsenal footballers Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac.

26-year-old Jordan Northover of West Yorkshire was appearing at Harrow Crown Court on Wednesday morning.

He admitted trying to take the players' jewellery on Platts Lane in Hampstead, north-west London on 25 July, the court heard.

30-year-old Ashley Smith of Archway, north London, has also previously admitted his role in the attempted robbery of Ozil, 31, and Kolasinac, 26.

Footage that circulated on social media of the incident showed defender Kolasinac chasing off two people on mopeds wearing dark clothing and helmets.

Ozil then reportedly left his gold-trimmed vehicle in the middle of the road and ran into a nearby restaurant.

Both players were unhurt in the incident.

Shortly after the attack, Kolasinac, who is a Bosnian international, put a picture of the smiling pair on his Instagram, with the caption: "Think we're fine".

Ozil told Sky News that he, his wife and Kolasinac are "all good" following the attack.

When asked if it was a scary experience, he said: "It was different, but it's OK now."

Man jailed for trying to rob Arsenal stars Mesut Özil and Sead Kolasinac

An armed mugger who tried to rob Arsenal footballers Mesut Özil and Sead Kolasinac has been jailed.

Ashley Smith admitted attempting to steal luxury watches worth £200,000 from the pair in Hampstead, north-west London.

A second man, Jordan Northover, 26, has also admitted his role in the robbery.

Smith, 30, of Archway in north London, was jailed for 10 years at Harrow Crown Court on Friday. Northover will be sentenced at a later date.

CCTV footage showed Kolasinac chasing off two masked attackers on 25 July.

In a video that circulated on social media, the 26-year-old Bosnian defender could be seen fighting off two knife-wielding men.
Smith was described by judge Ian Bourne QC as a prolific "career criminal" who was well known to police.

He was out on licence for a 42-month sentence for burglary in 2017 when he tried to rob the Arsenal duo.

The court heard Smith and his accomplice did not count on the bravery of Kolasinac in fighting back.

The would-be robbers used a stolen moped, were dressed in helmets and dark clothing to try and conceal their identities.

Özil drove the group away from the scene pursued by culprits throwing stones at the car, the court heard.

Kolasinac and the Germany midfielder were left out of the Arsenal side ahead of the opening weekend of the Premier League campaign after the incident.

Mikel Arteta says he will restore Mesut Ozil to the Arsenal team when he thinks the playmaker "can give his best".

The Gunners boss left Ozil out of his squad for Wednesday's 3-0 defeat at Manchester City due to "tactical" reasons, casting further speculation over the German's future at the Emirates.

"I've been very open with Mesut from day one," said Arteta.

"I thought he was fit and willing and wanted to perform at the level he can do. I think he has played every game with me.

"The moment I see he is ready to do that again I will treat him like everyone else. I have been more than fair with him and he has responded in many games, the way I want. That's it.

"A lot has happened to him in the last few weeks and I have to respect the timing of every player. Sometimes they need a little bit of time.

"It has been difficult preparation in the last two months to get players ready.

"Again, I am the first one who wants Mesut at his best. I will put him on the pitch when I think he can give his best."

When asked how Ozil reacted to being omitted, Arteta replied: "He was very well with me. There were no issues at all.

"My conversation with Mesut is going to remain with him and me. It was a clear and honest conversation."

Arteta is unsure whether the disastrous outing against Manchester City will be David Luiz's last for the club but says Arsenal have to "make big decisions" financially due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Brazilian was introduced as a first-half substitute for the injured Pablo Mari, who could miss the rest of the season.

He endured a torrid 25-minute cameo, which saw him at fault for Raheem Sterling's opener before being sent off for hauling down Riyad Mahrez in the penalty area.

Luiz's contract expires at the end of the month and Arteta named him on the bench at the Etihad to try and protect him from his off-pitch issues.

"We need to be fair on him," said Arteta. "I'm going to defend him with everything I have because I believe in him. He has shown me a lot of things in my time here. His character speaks for itself.

"We cannot forget the financial situation. The way Covid-19 has hit every club and the economy in general, it is going to have an impact.

"What the club is doing at the moment is assessing the situation and trying to clarify a lot of uncertainties that we have in the future.

"I will have to make big decisions but timewise it is difficult to fit them in our needs. We are trying our best and it is difficult sometimes because the player or our sporting necessities in a difficult situation, but again we have to adapt. It is what it is.

"That's why I wanted to protect David on Wednesday and didn't start him. It's a funny game and after 20 minutes you need him.

"He is a player with a lot of uncertainty in the last few weeks."

Asked if there is turbulence behind the scenes at Arsenal, Arteta said: "There are consequences. The people who are running the club are very responsible and what they don't want to do is put it in a difficult position.

"In order to do that, let's analyse first how our finances are going to look like."

We really need to get him gone as his wages are holding us back and if Arteta wants to change the culture you can't change it with people who are picking up a retirement cheque.

Sick of his PR nonsense when he tweets something after he has been dropped. He was playing fortnite when we lost to City and then he has the nerve to put on his social media a picture of him holding the Arsenal badge.

Get him out. He is holding us back so much and dividing the fanbase.

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil will not feature in Saturday's FA Cup final against Chelsea after travelling to Turkey.

Ozil was left out of Arsenal's squad for the match and his future looks increasingly uncertain after he was given permission by the club to leave the UK.

The 31-year-old has not played a single minute for the Gunners since the season resumed in June.

He still has one year left on a £350,000-a-week contract and Arsenal want to move him on this summer. However, Ozil's agent says he will not leave until the end of his contract.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has been reluctant to talk about Ozil in public.

Arteta said Ozil missed the first game back after the restart against Manchester City for tactical reasons and he is said to have not featured in subsequent squads because of a back injury.

Former Arsenal forward Paul Merson feels it is too late for Ozil to fit into the Gunners' style, with Arteta looking to solidify the team and make them more durable defensively.

He said: "I think Ozil is a prime example of a player who has to play in a proper team, that is going to be right up there, dominating football matches. He's got to play in a majorly successful team.

"He can't play in this Arsenal team, here's why: he's not going to change his game now in his 30s, and Arsenal aren't going to change their game for him. He isn't tracking back, chasing players, and you need him in a team where you're getting 70 per cent of the ball each week, and he'll play. You get players around him, let him play.

"We all know how Ozil plays, you give him the ball and he'll find you. If you don't have the ball, he won't win it back for you for love nor money. He's not interested when they don't have the ball. How can you give someone £350k-a-week when we all knew that was his style of play?

"If he hasn't got the ball he's one of the worst players in the world! I would say that. Name me a worse player in the world when their team doesn't have the ball? I've never seen somebody so disinterested when they don't have the ball, but he hurts you at the other end!

"Can Arsenal form a team around him? At the moment, it's at the stage where you can't do that. They're not going to change the team for him. He'll pick up his £350,000-a-week and everything is rosy for him.

"They have to come to a deal with him; maybe he'll take £200k a week somewhere else. I don't know how this gets resolved though. Does he want to play football? If he loves football, he has to come to a deal with Arsenal, but it's easy to say that. Nobody wants to lose £150k a week, no matter how much you earn! Who is mad enough to throw that money away, no matter who you are?"

The summer transfer window will run for 10 weeks from July 27 and close at 11pm on October 5.

A domestic-only window for trades between the Premier League and EFL then runs from October 5 and closes on Friday October 16 at 5pm.

Arsenal offer to pay off Mesut Ozil's £18m contract to free up funds for new recruits

Arsenal will make a new push to reach an agreement over Mesut Ozil’s £18m contract nightmare.

They are ready to make an offer to pay him off and reach a deal or subsidise his £350,000-a-week wages if he moves to another club.

Ozil, 31, has one year left on his deal, does not want to leave Arsenal and is ready to sit tight but the club want to find a compromise to help free up money in their wage bill for transfer business this summer.

It has turned into a financial headache for Arsenal as the club want to shake up the squad this summer with Chelsea's Brazilian forward Willian set to sign while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been offered a new three year deal to stay.

But they also want to offload midfield misfit Matteo Guendouzi, Greek defender Sokratis and they are looking to get Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s wages off the books by turning his loan to Roma into a permanent switch.

Arsenal may also sell Ainsley Maitland-Niles despite him insisting he is keen to stay while Sead Kolasinac could also be on his way.

Arsenal want to buy defensive reinforcements with Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes on their list together with Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey.

But cash is tight at Arsenal after the club announced 55 redundancies last week and they need to try and take money off the wage bill.

There are no obvious takers for Ozil as there is simply not the money in Turkish football to make it a reality but the Germany World Cup winner was frozen out in the final weeks of the season.

They must now try to find a solution but it will be difficult with no obvious takers for Ozil.

Mesut Ozil says he will stay at Arsenal until contract ends in 2021

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil says he will stay with the club "through to the last day" of his contract in June 2021.

The former Germany international, 31, has not played since the Premier League resumed in June, with manager Mikel Arteta citing "pure football reasons".

But Ozil dismissed reports the club were looking to pay up the last year of his £350,000-a-week deal.

"Things have been difficult but I love Arsenal," he told the Athletic. "I'll decide when I go, not other people."

"I'll give everything I have for this club," Ozil added. "Situations like these will never break me, they only make me stronger. I showed in the past that I can come back into the team and I will show it again."

Ozil, who joined Arsenal in a £42.4m move from Real Madrid in 2013, fell out of favour under previous manager Unai Emery before returning to the side under interim boss Freddie Ljungberg.

After Arteta's appointment in December, Ozil started all 10 of Arsenal's Premier League games immediately before the coronavirus pandemic forced a three-month suspension of the Premier League in March, but has not featured in their past 13 matches in all competitions.

Despite Arteta and his first-team players accepting a 12.5% pay cut in April, Arsenal announced they plan to make 55 staff redundant because of the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Ozil opted against a pay cut because the players were "rushed" and believes "possibly the decision affected my chances on the pitch".

While he respects Arteta's decision to leave him out, Ozil believes he should have been given a chance to show what he can do on the pitch, saying: "You don't play 10 games in a row if you're unfit, not good enough or don't behave well."

He added that he was "not the only player who rejected the cut in the end, but only my name came out".

Mesut Ozil: 'Very difficult' for Arsenal midfielder to get back into squad, says Mikel Arteta

Mikel Arteta had admitted that it is "very difficult" for Mesut Ozil to break back into his Arsenal side after leaving the midfielder out of a fourth successive matchday squad.

The Gunners have won their first two Premier League games of the season and beat Leicester 2-0 at the King Power Stadium in the Carabao Cup third round on Wednesday night.

They also defeated Liverpool on penalties in the Community Shield last month in what has been a promising start to the season - and it has all been done without Ozil, whose struggles to win over Arteta continue.

The 31-year-old did not play at all for Arsenal following the 2019/20 season's restart in June and is yet to feature this campaign, meaning his last appearance for the club came on March 7.

Asked to explain the prolonged absence of Ozil - who is in the final year of his contract - from his team, Arteta said: "The team is evolving, you can see the level they are achieving.

"This is where we are at the moment. We want to evolve more and play better and compete better. We need to keep maintaining that.

"I'm really happy with the performance here, how difficult they're making things for the coaching staff to select the squad.

"We are picking the players that we believe are the best for each game. You can see we keep training, it's what we're trying to do.

"You can see that the players we are changing, we are using, it's very difficult every week - not [just] for Mesut - but for some other players as well to make the squad. Every week we try to pick the right players.

"Of course I understand and I respect your questions, but I have to try to do my job as fair as possible. I try to select the players that are, in my opinion, in better condition."

Ozil has collected nearly £10 million in wages since his last competitive game for Arsenal which was almost 7 months ago now.

Mad respect for Ozil to do that.

Because Arsenal cannot field him as they'd lose all their chinese generator. That's the truth.

No this isn't the truth. Ozil was playing just before lockdown and that was well after he his criticism of the Chinese regime.

Ozil was not banned nor was his playing time reduced as a result of his comments made about China.

Nice gesture by Ozil. No idea why Arsenal got rid of the mascot, there is no financial benefit from making him redundant. It must have been a personal issue, either way not a great look when you have spent 45m on a new signing and have released a mascot who is on peanuts in comparison.

It's a remarkable standoff with other rumours including avoiding match fees. They played an inferior Mkhitaryan over him and his and William signings for the fees make no sense. Apparently there's been dodgy dealings going on which meant previous recruitment team left but it has continued. Kroenke refused to sell to Usmanov and now Moshiri, another big shareholder, with help from Usmanov, has been pumping his considerable wealth in to Everton.

Ozil will sit out his last 10 months of his contract and then hes probably likely to go play in turkey or the U.S i reckon.

I doubt it.
He seemed to have lost all playing ambition once he retired from International football. Its only about the money now and this gig is likely to be his last big contract.
Some club in Turkey may come in with a pay as you play contract but doubt Ozil will go for that.
US clubs won't risk a cent on him.

Mesut Ozil: Arsenal omit Germany midfielder from Europa League squad

Midfielder Mesut Ozil has been left out of Arsenal's Europa League squad for the forthcoming campaign.

The 31-year-old's future at the club remains uncertain after being persistently left out of the side by manager Mikel Arteta.

The Germany international has not played for the Gunners since March.

New £45m signing Thomas Partey has been included in the 25-man squad before their first Group B fixture against Rapid Vienna on 22 October.

The former Atletico Madrid midfielder joined the Gunners on deadline day.

There is also no place in Arsenal's squad for defenders Sokratis Papastathopoulos or William Saliba.

In addition to Rapid Vienna, the Gunners will also face Irish side Dundalk and Molde from Norway in the group stages.

On Tuesday, Ozil, who joined the club for a then record £42.4m in 2013 and whose contract is set to expire at the end of this season, said he would pay the salary of the man who plays club mascot Gunnersaurus.

It had been revealed that Gunnersaurus actor Jerry Quy was one of 55 people made redundant by the club.

Seems to really be the end of the line for Ozil at Arsenal. Won't forget the excitement felt to watch Ozil weave his magic in an Arsenal shirt, I can't ever forgive Giroud in the 15/16 season, stopped Ozil from absolutely obliterating Henry's assist record.

1000% a Turkish team will sign him on a free!

By that time he wouldn’t have played for 18 months.
A Turkish club might take a risk in him but doubt Pzik would take the money on offer.

My money is on him retiring once his contract finishes, unless he agrees to cancel his contract and is free to go in January.

He's huge in Turkey and while decent quality, many past it move there on lucrative contracts

He might join İstanbul Başakşehir F.K as he is good friends with the owners and they have started to do well in the Turkish league.

Arsenal reportedly want to reopen talks with German midfielder Mesut Ozil over terminating his contract.

Ozil is contracted until July so that’s approximately £13 million due to him if he runs down his contract . I guess Arsenal will offer him a little less than that to call it quits now - probably a good thing for both parties if they just ended it now.

Why not? Why go and earn your money playing football when you can be sat doing diddly squat and pocketing $455k per week.

This has become an issue of principle for him now.. the club three him under the bus and had lied about their intentions Wage cuts and still mass redundancies?. Only Kroenke benefits.

He is staying till the end of his contract. I'm not that annoyed at Ozil. It's his fan boys who are so annoying. They defend his every move .

Can't wait to move on from him as he is dividing the fans and Arteta wants to move the team away from Ozil.

Ok look you have to get over this Özil the Beacon of truth and justice type of thing.

The bloke is living in Hampstead/Highgate border, in a very big house on a very nice street with his fancy cars and two dogs.

He is literally living it up and those who think he’s got any footballing ambition left in him are deluding themselves.

That is exactly right.

Some think Özil is on this mission... height of delusion.

From a recent Q&A with Arsene Wenger:

Q: You signed Mesut Ozil for a then club record fee of £42.4m - what do you make of his career currently?

Wenger: I feel it is a waste for him.

Firstly because he's in the years where a player of his talent can produce the most. And it's a waste for the club as well because he's a super talent, a creative talent that in the final third can create that killer pass.

The way football is going at the moment it's quick counter-pressing, quick transitions and everybody plays the same. It's kicked out players like Ozil. Although let's not forget who this guy is. A world champion who has played at Real Madrid.

He's been the record player of assists, so you have to find a way to get him involved again.

There's such a thing as professional pride. Ozil is still at his prime, that will be gone forever in a few years. Personally I think he would leave if he could get a big club move on the same wages, but that's not going to happen. He's not going to play in Saudi Arabia with his reputation.

Arsenal's German midfielder Mesut Ozil, 31, turned down the chance to leave the Gunners and earn £200,000 per week in the Saudi Professional League earlier this month.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has told Mesut Ozil, 32, he has two months to prove himself at the club. The German World Cup-winning playmaker has not started a game for the Gunners since 7 March.

Now he is playing in his garden.

Mesut Ozil: Arsenal midfielder 'disappointed' by Premier League snub

Mesut Ozil has accused Arsenal of a lack of loyalty after being left out of their Premier League squad, but vowed to keep "fighting" for his chance.

Ozil, the highest-paid player in Arsenal's history, may have played his last game for the club after he was not included in their Premier League squad for the 2020/21 season.

It was another blow for the 32-year-old, who had already been left out of their Europa League plans last week.

"This is a difficult message to write to the Arsenal fans that I've played for over the past few years," Ozil said on Instagram.

"I'm really deeply disappointed by the fact that I have not been registered for the Premier League season for the time being.

"Upon signing my new contract in 2018, I pledged my loyalty and allegiance to the club that I love, Arsenal, and it saddens me that this has not been reciprocated.

"As I have just found out, loyalty is hard to come by nowadays. I've always tried to remain positive from week to week that there's maybe a chance to get back in the squad soon again. That's why I kept silent so far."

The German World Cup winner played in every Premier League game under Mikel Arteta until last season was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic - and has not featured since.

He added: "Before the Coronavirus break I was really happy with the development under our new coach Mikel Arteta - we've been on a positive way and I would say my performances were on a really good level.

"But then things changed, again, and I was not longer allowed to play football for Arsenal. What else can I say? London still feels like home, I still have many good friends in this team, and I still feel a strong connection with the fans of this club.

"No matter what, I will keep fighting for my chance and not let my eighth season at Arsenal end like this. I can promise you that this hard decision won't change anything in my mindset - I will continue to train as best as I can and wherever possible use my voice against inhumanity and for justice."

Former Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker suggests German midfielder Mesut Ozil's focus has shifted away from football - the 32-year-old was left out of the Gunners' Premier League squad on Tuesday.

Mikel Arteta is completely comfortable with his decision to leave Mesut Ozil out of Arsenal's Premier League and Europa League squads for this season, but admitted feeling a sense of failure at not getting the best from the midfielder.

Ozil, the highest-paid player in Arsenal's history, appears to have played his last game for the club following his omission from the club's 25-man squad for the 2020/21 league campaign.

In response, Ozil - whose £350,000-a-week contract expires at the end of the campaign - has accused Arsenal of a lack of loyalty, but vowed to keep "fighting" for his chance.
