Yeah its not a movie to watch with family similar to Ugly

I re-watched Mighty Ducks for some reason. For anyone who has not seen it, best hockey movie of all time.

Saint Maud
&
Relic

If you like slowburn, art-house horror films, these two movies are worth a watch. Relic especially is atmospheric & dread filled.

Watched a couple of “new” films on Saturday afternoon. Been a while since I have had the time, energy and motivation to sit through a film that I hadn’t seen before — but somehow I managed two yesterday! Really enjoyed both.

- Knives Out: Grade A. I expected a lot of this film from the strong critical and audience scores, and it did not disappoint. Quite the quirky and entertaining dysfunctional-family-in-manor-house murder mystery. A bit like a movie version of Cluedo. The lead detective’s style and his gradual unwrapping of the whodunit, with Daniel Craig as the witty and enigmatic Benoit Blanc, also seemed to be very much inspired by the workings of Agatha Christie’s classic character Hercule Poirot. The acting, casting, writing and visual style are all superb. A genuinely funny and clever film. Highly recommended! Got it on sale at Sky Store.

- Greenland: Grade A-. This was a pleasant surprise. An extremely competently made, well-structured and mid-key disaster film, wherein rugged engineer Gerard Butler has to rescue his estranged family from the potentially extinctive effects of an approaching comet. Unlike your usual Butler fare, this film is smart, contemporary, dramatic, and deeply emotional. It is also gripping throughout. My only criticism is that the first act (40 mins roughly) is so incredibly tense and pulsating — I was literally on the edge of my seat and barely able to catch a breath — that the remainder of the film slightly struggles to live up to it, even as the largest fragment of the comet continues to approach Earth. But it’s still very, very good! There is a lovely extended cameo from Scott Glenn. And the ending is satisfying as well. Caught this one on Amazon Prime.

Any move like Shutter island or Prestige which kinda messes with the mind? aliasad1998

Saw some movie which has the Tripathi actor from Mirzapur. I liked him there so wanted to watch some more of his stuff. So baad

Is that a popular genre with lot of options lol?

I think mighty ducks might have been the first movie which I may have watched (and remember watching) along with Home alone

An affair that starts with a misplaced lunchbox. They communicate via notes in the empty lunchbox IIRC. It was a long way back.

See "ugly". A very good movie. No big stars. But a great watch. If you want to go for comedy, watch hunterrrrr

And any movies of radhika Apte she's a different actress.

My recommendations- you have probably already watched most of them: The Machinist, Fight Club, Memento, Donnie Darko, Mulholland Drive, Oldboy (Korean original), Black Swan, The Wailing, Prisoners, Predestination, Gone Girl, Hidden (French), A Tale Of Two Sisters (Korea), Gone Girl.

There are probably too many classics you’ve seen already, The Babadook (on Amazon Prime) is a really good psychological horror which isn’t too old, another worth a watch is Gerlad’s Game (on Netflix).

Vertigo is excellent but I suspect you may have seen this.

Usual suspects is another although more of a mystery/thriller

Nice lists, I would add Incendies, The Secret In their Eyes (original), The Vanishing (original - Spoorloos), First Reformed, The Skin I Live In, Time Crimes, I Saw The Devil.

Omg incendies. Completely forgotten about that. The last letter from the mother.... Omg one of the shilling moments I've ever got from a movie. The words.... The emotions.... Omg.

Btw no mention of the Ernest movies?

I think it’s because what was available on Star Movies/HBO in India and none of his featured...

Really like all those movies except the vanishing which has been on my watchlist for ages. Probably gonna watch it this weekend

I remember the baby’s day out Punjabi dub used to play on TV when I was growing up and it was probably the funniest thing ever

Incendies is very close to my heart because the first theatre production I was ever a part of (for my university 2 years ago) was the play which this film is based on.

Ok the one I watched was the new movie LUDO. Really bad.

I thought Tripathi was a new actor (like got famous recently with mirzapur). But gangs of wasseypur is a very old movie so gusss im wrong

Actually I’m not that well versed in movies. Usually used to watch tv shows. Haven’t watched any of the ones you or aliasad1998 named so aim to watch these over next few months.

I waste a lot of time watching random vloggers stuff on YouTube so I want to waste thag atleays watching movies where you stand to gain some sort of new perspective etc

If you liked the prestige, i think you will like Memento. Its also directed by Chris Nolan.

Inception is also good. Also by Chris Nolan.

For kids its popular, and there are decent number of films. I watched it as brought back alot of memories. I would probably not watch any of the newer kid films.

Except for the Narration where director placed himself, I liked Ludo - a proper entertainer with good music and actors(except Abhishek Bachan)

Pankaj is an actor who found fame recently, he has been acting since 2003 in smaller roles.

Also another movie similar to Prestige is "The Illusionist" English and has Edward Norton.

I've watched 'The Sandlot' hundreds of times as a child. Up there with my favorite as well. Good list :).

The Dig on Netflix.

Inspired by the Sutton Hoo excavation.

Nice film. Some actors cast out of type.

Yeah good old days.. I’m gonna probably give it a watch again, eventhough baseball live is boring to me, baseball movies are amazing , esp with kids in it.

There was another one Rookie of the year also fun.

Greenland. A comet hits earth which turns into an extinction like event.

The movie was gripping throughout. 8/10.

Red Dot

On a hiking trip to rekindle their marriage, a couple find themselves fleeing for their lives in the unforgiving wilderness from an unknown shooter.

Not bad, not the worst film I've seen.

5/10

Annihilation - 8/10 , it’s a sci-fi, blurs the lines between horror/thriller and also a mystery; visually beautiful and written very well without going off on a massive tangent leaving a million plot holes with these types of movies. You can watch it on Netflix currently. Natalie Portman the lead seeks answers regarding her husbands disappearance and in doing so enters a mysterious zone called The Shimmer where the laws of nature don’t apply.

Also watched Apostle finally which is a horror involving a cult, it has decent reviews online but honestly the plot was all over the face and they couldn’t even establish a proper villain, too many holes with the story itself and lack of consistency - 5/10

If you want to see a fantastic movie from this era involving a cult watch Midsommar

Adú

The film intertwines three storylines related to the African immigration to Europe. A six-year-old boy and his older sister make a desperate attempt to flee Cameroon for Europe, waiting on a runway to smuggle themselves inside an aeroplane's cargo hold. Not far away, an activist against illegal hunting discovers the terrible scene of a dead elephant, its tusks removed. As well as fighting against illegal poaching, he has to face issues with his daughter, recently arrived in the country. Thousands of miles to the north, in Melilla, a group of civil guards face a mass assault on the Melilla border fence by Africans desperate to gain access to Spain.

Interesting yet sad film.

Worth a watch 7/10

The Last Detail (8/10)

Whenever someone asks me who my favourite actor of all time is, I always say it’s between Brando, De Niro and Nicholson. After watching this, I might just have a clear favourite. At least until the recency bias wears off.

An observation of masculinity, pent-up frustration and individual compassion in the face of unforgiving institutions, that contains a lot of heart and humour.

White Tiger

Had potential but the longer it went on, the more boring it became.

3/10

Drishyam 2.

Overrated imo, I don't know what the fuss was all about. I would give it a 3/5

Really poor movie.

After first 20-30 mins it’s a miss. I’d give it a 5 tho

3/5 not bad but where was this fuss lol?

I give it a pass, but if you look on youtube, reviewers are saying they would give it a 11 out of 10 etc lol... I was a little bored from it, it dragged and yeah, it was passable though.

Watched Christopher Nolan’s excellent Dark Knight Trilogy again. In the wake of Trump’s presidency, “Rises” has aged stunningly well! My personal opinion —

Batman Begins: A-
The Dark Knight: B+
The Dark Knight Rises: A

For me, I always find myself watching Batman Begins repeatedly compared to the others; the origin story was beautifully written and Nolan’s first shot at introducing the character in the modern era was fantastic, I don’t think Tim Burton’s Batman was bad or anything, but this slightly more grittier and darker tone reshaped how comic book characters can be portrayed in the main stream and the plot was very engaging.

Fantastic film. The first 45 minutes with the training and the League of Shadows stuff is gripping. I also think that the last 30 minutes (starting with Bruce’s birthday party) is so thrilling and profound, it can be watched over and over again.

I actually thought that it could have got very interesting, but after about half way it just went downhill and descended into a very boring film.

News of the World

The film follows a Civil War veteran who must return a young girl who was taken in by Native Americans as a little girl to her last remaining family.

Pretty good, Tom Hanks brilliant as usual.

7/10

The Girl on the Train

Bollywood version.

Terrible, fell asleep after 45 minutes so I'm not sure if it got any better.

Based on the 45 minutes I saw 2/10.

22 July

This is a 2018 American crime drama film about the 2011 Norway attacks and their aftermath, based on the book One of Us: The Story of a Massacre in Norway — and Its Aftermath.

Very interesting film.

Hollywood Bhanrangi Bhaijaan

Amazing acting. Weak plot

Tax Collector- absolutely ridiculous, I don’t know but all these Latin American hollywood movies are so lame.

4/10

It’s basically a comedy about Stalin’s close ministers and the power struggle between them after his death. Just a clever and entertaining movie while serving as a clever critique of government in general

Bohemian Rhapsody.

I liked it a lot. They got the members of Queen dead right.

Gutted about your low rating for A History of Violence bro, really rate that one and am a big fan of Cronenberg’s work in general.

I’m definitely in the minority when it comes to not liking that film. It is my 4th Cronenberg film. I enjoyed Videodrome, the fly and dead ringers which I watched just a few weeks ago.

Forgotten (2017) - Korean movie

Wasn't keen on watching but my daughter is a K pop and K drama buff..so did watch on Nextflix. was good movie.

The Wailing - Enjoyed this a great deal, loved the eerie atmosphere and darker tone, had a bit of everything concerning a horror movie from the last decade, zombies, demonic possession and mysteries etc but meshed nicely with the asian mythologies and rituals, the plot had depth you don’t always get from American cinema in the horror genre and I enjoyed the pacing. Can’t wait for the directors next project

Coming to America 2.

Absolute dog tripe. This wasn't about coming to America, this was about coming to Zamunda. You could go as far as saying this movie was a musicial.

Also the movie has BLM over/undertones. It's a politically charged movie.

Yes, part 3 is also in the works.

I heartily endorse Oldboy, that's in my top 3. Watched it a few years ago and it's still imprinted in my mind.

Continuing the South Korean trend, Mother (2009) has a troubling message about how far one's willing to protect their loved ones...

Peterloo by Mike Leigh, about growing labour / civil rights in Manchester and the establishment’s moves to crush it.

A thoughtful if wordy and overlong film, culminating in massacre at an assembly of working people. Some of the military attempt to break up the meeting with minimal violence, while others run amok.

Unpleasant echoes ring today in Patel’s bill curtailing our rights to protest, going before Parliament this very day.

Panic Room - Classic Fincher thriller, took a simple concept and made it compelling viewing, it’s the sort of idea you’d think of but only Fincher could execute it with so much tension. Plot revolves around a burglary in a home which has a panic room, Foster was outstanding as you’d expect. I found it quiet humorous at times especially the shenanigans involving the invaders, I suspect this may have been partly to appease the main stream audience, otherwise perhaps there would be an even darker and more sinister element behind them. Overall defo one you should watch and a movie any audience can get into.

Just finished the 4 hour long Justice League Snyder Cut.

Ended up being a completely different film to the first with better character development.
Goes to show how badly Whedon messed it up when he took over.

Anyway, it was far too long and had to watch it over two days

I could hack it.

Proper background for Flash and Cyborg?

I could hack it.

Proper background for Flash and Cyborg?

Yes but especially Cyborg.
He went from being a bit part character to literally stealing the show.

It's actually a completely different movie so definitely worth seeing...
A couple of very nice surprises too

It's much darker and the sound track is brilliant.
The visuals too are better. Stepenwolf also has some character development and is so much more bad ***.

Anyone into this stuff should definitely watch it.

The Third Man (1949)

Blown away by this. The dialogue, wit, acting and ending is fantastic. This film was ahead of its time, stands up even today.

9.5/10.

In the Heart of the Sea by Ron Howard, about events that allegedly inspired Moby-Dick. Pretty good. Fine Irish and English cast, mostly.

It didn’t grab me when I watched it but that was a very long time ago. Perhaps I should watch it again.
