Passengers. Good watch 8/10.
I thought it was very good. Exceeded my expectations. The child actors were superb. The movie had a perfect blend of humourous one liners & jump scares. It was cross between The Goonies & Stand By Me.
Looking forward to Part2.
will soon watch.... "I won't go to Punjab"
Old boy: 9/10
Raging Bull: 8/10
Both big time hits that I've been meaning to watch. Really liked the rawness in Raging Bull and De Niro is a legend.

Very good movie, decent story and freaks you out as well.
War for the Planet of the Apes
The third installment of perhaps the most underrated series in current cinematic history in my opinion. It was a very different movie than I was expecting. From a dark and pessimistic beginning the movie went to an even darker and nihilistic middle. Gorgeously shot and picturized, I could not help find shades of Cormac McCarthy's "The Road", of a post-apocalyptic world with its cold and chilling visions to Inarritu's "The Revenant" with the brutal realities of human conflict interspersed with the majestic nature of the surroundings. At times the movie turned into a straight up Western genre movie with the classic setting of a gunman hero with his band of misfits out for revenge for his family. The movie also seemed greatly inspired by Coppola's war epic "Apolaypse Now", the villain, Colonel..., his name never mentioned played by Woody Harrelson is very much inspired by Colonel Kurtz played by Brando. The mannerism, the bald head and ruthless and unflinching character all incorporated very intentionally.
This movie is far more darker and complex than its predecessors with quite obvious political undertones, especially the references to slavery and civil war. The ending could have been darker and cynical like the rest of the movie but I guess a grim and hopeless ending was too much to expect from a major Hollywood blockbuster. I believe the character of Caesar met a fitting ending, he is surely been the heart and soul off the whole franchise. Look forward to the girl Nova picking up the mantle from him and watching her kick some human behind in T2 type fashion in the future. The young girl who played Nova was a revelation and her one scene with Caesar where she gives him water and food is perhaps one of the most touching scenes I've witnessed in a movie in a long time.
DHONI183, I read your criticism of the movie and mostly disagree with your take, but agree that from a purely entertainment point of view, Dawn of the Planet was superior.
Easy A. It's from 2010. Has anyone watched it?
I think I have, Emma Stone in it? great movie
funny movie. She's a virgin in it and people make fun of her or something, his teacher tries to hit on her and gets caught by his wife
Blade Runner 2049.
A visual feast. I loved the music. Not much heart though.... no love story and lacking a good villain.
Extremely avrage movie without heart.the movie is niether faithful to poem padmaavat nor actual history.it glorifies rajput ethics at price of demonizing khilji's character.Reviews on Padmavat anyone?
+ dialogues etc so you will enjoy some moments but overall i found it flowed & dragged.Extremely avrage movie without heart.the movie is niether faithful to poem padmaavat nor actual history.it glorifies rajput ethics at price of demonizing khilji's character.
Allauddin khilji generelised as unethical, wild, cruel & lust driven character.
Bhansali is very good at making visually spectacular movies with grand locations, set design
+ dialogues etc so you will enjoy some moments but overall i found it flowed & dragged.
But I loved the two songs "binte Dil" & "ek dil ek jaan".
I loved Khalibali too
Khalibali is good but I can't tolerate visuals of khliji's fictional dance with such an energy.
Bhanshali is very underrated composer."aayat" from bajirao mastani and now "binte dil"& "ek dil ek jan" from padmaavat are beautiful songs with amazing lyrics.
true I liked khali bali too and also climax bgm " raani Saa" .You dont watch video all the time. Do you?? Dont you listen in Mp3
Yes binte dil beats all but should have been a little bit longer.
The Big Sick (2017)
The Kumal Nanjiani's comedy is little more than your usual Judd Apatow movie. Its actually based on a true story. While a part of me felt good about a guy from Karachi making it big in America and his life story being made into a major Hollywood movie, which has done very well both critically and commercially. Another part of me cringed with disgust when the movie's depiction of the Pakistani diaspora living in US was so awfully caricatured and not only that, a lot of it was just plain wrong. Not sure when did Pakistani mothers started talking in typical sing a song Indian accent and in which Pakistani houses in America are girls randomly dropping by to give heir own profile pics to guys for the purpose of arranged marriage. Why is it so hard for Hollywood movies to separate Pakistani and Indian culture. Same thing happened in "The Night of" but it was more subtle. This movie actually has a Pakistani guy at the helm and still, that didn't help. The only parts of the movie which are funny and interesting are the scenes in which Ray Romano and Holly Hunter are in. Overall, a good light hearted movie.
Bycycle thieves : must watch if you like classic cinema.
It is a classic Italian black and white movie that was released in 1948.
It shows the life post world war 2 in italy.
story of a poor father with his son searching for his stolen bicycle, without which he will lose the job which was to be the salvation of his young family.
Till climax I was expecting they will find
Stolen bycycle but they don't.

^ you should start giving a out of 10 marks on your reviews if not too much trouble
Black Panther
It was a good movie and has received a lot of hype. But a lot of the hype is related to the fact that we have a black super hero.
If you strip that from the movie it's still a good watch but just a bit more than average. The premise of the movie is nothing we haven't heard of or seen before. An unknown world where inhabitants are far ahead technologically/spiritually than the rest of the world... So in that sense I won't give credits for creativity because it was exactly expected (I do understand they are limited by the comic book)
Someone said that the prior marvel movies had some tie in to the story here so perhaps I missed a bit there
But overall it's a nice watch but nowhere near the hype
6.5/10
What took the cake for me was when a hostess of the TV show "The View" told actor Chadwick Boseman who plays the lead in Black Panther, how it was an honor to watch the movie. An honor to watch a Marvel movie. Lol. Is this for real. Has the anti-Trump emotionality have so disturbed liberals that they can't distinguish between a comercially made movie made by a major studio from some kind of mammoth revolutionary movement in black history.
Im betting it was Sunny Hostin...
Dunkirk (2017)
Finally got to see the movie everyone was talking about. I was specially excited to see it after reading several glowing reviews on this forum, especially one detailed and particularly glorified one by DHONI183.
I am glad I got to watch it in a theatre. The visuals and sounds, two essential components of any film, were particularly impressive. I didn’t know much about the history of the battle of Dunkirk other than it happened in WWII. I intentionally avoided reading anything about it to stop myself from comparing notes in my head while watching the movie. I wanted to go into the movie theatre with a completely open mind or a clean slate and give this movie the first chance to make any impression it wants on me.
I have to say that I came out of the movie slightly underwhelmed. I appreciate movies for its visual narrative however, I can’t help but feel that a bit more dialogue or explanation of the events through inserts to explain the events at hand would have been beneficial, especially for a causal (non WWII buff) viewer.
The action was also a bit too chaotic and chopped up for my liking. I understand Nolan’s emphasis on displaying war as one big chaotic mad rush but when it starts muddying the plot and the confusion start leading to indifference than I feel it becomes a problem. Its also hard to connect to any one character in the movie except maybe the young boy Tommy who we start the film with.
Tommy’s character reminded me of Private Witt, the main protagonist in Terrence Malick’s epic and my personal favorite war movie of all times “The Thin Red Line”. Just like Pvt. Witt, Tommy carries the wounded soldiers bodies to safety, though I am not sure if that was part of his job description or he was just helping out. But unlike Pvt. Witt whose pacifist rebellion stand in stark contrast to the mindless patriotism of the majority of the soldiers especially Lt. Col. Tall played brilliantly by Nick Nolte, in case of Tommy, he represented the collective mindset of almost all of the Allied soldiers. The exhaustingly dreadful never-ending but earnest fight for survival. We don’t get to see any counter narratives other than maybe a scene in which a soldier out of pure survival is selfishly trying to kick Tommy’s friend Gibson out of the sinking boat, putting a few shades of grey in an otherwise pristine sincerity all around. I would have liked more scenes like that.
Regardless, despite lacking in narrative and structure, this movie is impressive and daring in its design and scope. Worth a watch.
Wonder, Breathe and Gifted. Totally amazing movies and something you can watch with the family. They don't make many like them anymore.
Gifted was good. Is it based on true story?
Blade Runner 2049.
