I was just going through some old CDs and came across an Abrar ul Haq classic - Jagga.

Those were the days when Abrar was a class act.

So, what was the last song you just listened to and what was it like?

ddlj- tujhe dekha to yai

2pac and kurupt- still ballin

Dum Dum Ali Ali - Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (Magic Touch mixed by Bally Sagoo)

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan still sounds as fresh as he was some ten years to twelve years ago, I am going through my OLD SCHOOL music period and am digging out tracks from Bally Sagoo, Nusrat, Abrar, Sajjad Ali, Hadiqa Kiyani etc.

Listening to it now, on MP3, oughtn't to really, should be working but in a melancholy spirit - watched Geo news this morning, disturbance in Lahore. Anyway, the song is a really old one, one of my father's favourites from an old Bollywood movie Jaal, sung by Mohd Rafi, the singer with the best, sexiest male voice ever. The song:

Akela hoon mein humsafar dhoondtha hoon
Mohobaath ke mehrehey guzaar dhoondtha hoon
Akela hoon mein humsafar dhoondtha hoon
Mohobaath ke mehrehey guzaar dhoondtha hoon

Kisi ko mein shaamo, saher dhoondtha hoon
Akela hoon mein humsafar dhoondtha hoon
Mohobaath ke mehrehey guzaar dhoondtha hoon

Yeh mehkee hui raath kithnee huseen hai
Magar merey pehloo mein koi naheen hai
Mohabath buree ek nazaar dhoondtha hoon

Meirey dil mein aja nigahon mein aja
Mohabat kee rungeen rahon mein aja
Thujhee ko mein orr, bekhubar dhoondtha hoon

Kidhar jaoon veeran hain meiree rahein
Kissee ko na apna sukeen meiree ahein
Mein ahon mein apnee assar dhoontha hoon

Akela hoon mein humsafar dhoondtha hoon
Mohobaath ke mehrehey guzaar dhoondtha hoon

Kisi ko mein shaamo, saher dhoondtha hoon
Akela hoon mein humsafar dhoondtha hoon
Mohobaath ke mehrehey guzaar dhoondtha hoon

Bitter Sweet Symphony by the Verve. Love that song - 9/10

Tarap Tarap by Mohammad Irfan Ali (Star Voice of India contestent) from some Bollywood movie

This will make you cry. This man is blessed with a voice! Mashallah. I have had the pleasure of meeting him and he is so humble and so clean. There is an aura about him; a noor as we say!

God bless him and us all in these difficult times.

Sami Yusuf has a great voice - love his "Teacher" song, about the Prophet.

I recently listened to Bruce Springsteen's recent album Magic. As is typical of Springsteen it is, in the words of one newspaper reviewer of the album, "superbly balanced between the joy of a big rock sound and the troubles of the age." Springsteen is one of the few who "can perform the marriage of sophistication and ordinariness or hymn everyday joys and tragedies with nuance."

Like a Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan

I don't think a song by Dylan needs an explanation to what it's like, but if one must then I'd say this song will transcend the ages.

What are some of NFAK's bests?

And some new, good Pakistani songs?

Recently came across this powerful song and video on youtube that deals with 9/11, Iraq etc...

It's by Serj Tankian a Lebanese/Armenian rocker and champion for human rights and justice.

Check it out ... note - play close attention to everything in the video - it all has a meaning.

Here is the link -

NFAKs best - this list is obviously quite subjective:

Tum Ek Gorak Danda Ho
Allah Hu
Sanu Ek Pal Chain
Akhian Udeek Diyan
Kinna Sohna Tenu Rab

Other Hardcore NFAK Qawwalies include 'Man Kunto Maula', 'Haq Ali Ali' and 'Ni Man Jana Jogee De Naal'...although I could go on all day.

New Pakistani songs - check out Jals Dil Harey

Dharti ke khuda...perfect song about the terrible situation of pakistan

Tum ne bhi suni yahan kahi gayi kaisi kaisi baatein
Tum ne bhi sune yahan kiye gaye kaise kaise waade
Jhooti thi sabhi yahan kahi gayi khushion ki jo baatein
Jhoote the sabhi yahan kiye gaye logon se jo waade

Dharti ke Khuda, bante hai yahan
In ko bhi zara, koyi de sazaa

Mohron ki tara kabhi chala rahe hote hein wo humko
Paani ki tara kabhi baha rahe hote hein wo humko
Shamon ki tara kabhi jala rahe hote hein wo humko
Lamhon ki tarah kabhi gawa rahe hote hein wo humko

Dharti ke Khuda, bante hai yahan
In ko bhi zara, koyi de sazaa

Woh sitamgar hain unhe kyaa jiyeen ya marhein
Ho sitam jo bhi usse hum gawara karein
Woh yahi chahein ke dam hum unhi ka bharein
Hum jhukein aagay unhi ke unhi se darrein

Raate hein sabhi yahan kabhi nahin jayenge woh jaise
Katte hain jawan koi saza nahin paayenge woh jaise
Un se ye kaho yahan chale gaye kaise kaise aake

Dharti ke Khuda, bante hai yahan
In ko bhi zara, koyi de sazaa

Dharti ke Khuda, bante hai yahan
In ko bhi zara, koyi de sazaa

Dharti ke Khuda, inko do sazaa
Dharti ke Khuda, inko do sazaa
Dharti ke Khuda, karte hain jaffaa
Dharti ke Khuda, inko do sazaa

Dharti ke Khuda

I don't know when this was taped and I barely remember her looks from black & white TV. A beautiful voice then and still. The links for the original movie song is on the page (Rani??? and Waheed Murad). Plus all the songs in the Pink Sari are very good. Plus her Dama Dam Mast Qalandar (no video) is wonderful. There is also a saregma London 1999 clip and she is singing a Bengali song
I am guessing that she moved out of Pakistan in 70s.

Abrar is like the Mohammad Sami of music. The quality of his songs have gone down with each album.

Anyways, I'm listening to NFAK - Sanwre

Waiting for the world to change - by John Mayer.
It's become an instant favorite, i listen to it all the time now... The lyrics are brilliant and it applies to the current situation in Pakistan as well.

True, but it made me think about Pakistan, when your own country is in such turmoil its hard to think about the rest of the world.
