What's new

What was the last thing you ate?

I finally got around to trying the Impossible Whopper from Burger King, just to see what all the fuss is about. I have to admit that it manages to mimic the taste and texture of the beef patty quite well, but I don’t think it passes the look test: the outside reminded me of a black bean patty, and breaking a piece up, the inside comes close, but isn’t identical to what a beef patty would be. That said, if I hadn’t known it wasn’t beef, I probably wouldn’t have noticed.

Of course there’s the issue of a burger from a fast food chain being a bad burger by definition, beef or no beef, but that’s a topic for another day.

Brie and Grape Toast, don't normally have brie but mum picked some up yesterday

Try Beyond Burger.

Try Beyond Burger.

I have. The office cafeteria stocks it for the vegan crowd. Between the two, I felt the Impossible Burger came closer to mimicking beef.

Both brands claim their carbon footprint beats that of an actual beef patty, but they’re still heavily processed, so I’m not sure if I will eat either again for a while. In the meantime, I’ll return to consuming beef.

Chicken and sweet corn soup in addition to crispy salt and pepper chicken

Yesterday was my Dadi'd 87th b'day -she made it till here with greatest of difficulty due to illness since last few months . We had a desi 4 - 7 pm high Tea celebration with 3 Cakes [ & yes,she blew the solitary candle on each 1 of them lying in bed - she cannot stand ] , frankies , burgers , home made fries , sandwiches , roasted masala kaju & badaam , kaju katli , khopra burfi & piping hot gulab jamuns . Too much food for 15 people & our 3 domestic help took the rest home . I am so glad she made it till here :)

Once you see how its made you would never go to Popeyes, Chick Fil A is still a healthier option compared to Popeyes although Desis are not discriminated with franchise ownership in Popeyes unlike white Chick a FIl.

All of American fast food production is a cesspool. Best to live in ignorant bliss on that

Prawn, Mushroom, Spinach, tomato curry on Monday.

Went on holiday to Bournemouth Thursday. Just pigged out there really. Veggie Burger and chips by the beach, and magnum ice cream. Then later on for dinner went to a halal turkish place. Had hummus and bread for starter, then I ordered chicken guvec but I didn't like it that much, so switched with my mum, who had chicken iskindar which was better :)

Next day, had hotel from the breakfast, which had no Eggs, surprisingly, so had cereals, fruits, yogurts, pain au chocolate, toast, cheese, croissants, juice etc. Then later went exploring, had some cookie + courgette + avocado cake with coffee.

Then for lunch, just went asda, got tiger bread, jalapeno hummus, halal chorizo, spicy mexican cheese, salad, halal cajun chicken breast.

For dinner, went to a halal lahore restaurant, starters were poppadoms, chicken tikka, aloo puri/chaat, then i had chicken tawa, mum had chilli garlic chicken and dad had mixed grill, and they gave some saunf.

Yesterday had breakfast by the beach :), veggie english, toasts, eggs, baked beans, mushrooms, hash browns, veggie sausages, tomato. On way back had eat natural protein bar :)

Nihari. I’ve discovered the one restaurant in my neck of the woods that serves it. Sure, the meat isn’t near tender enough, and the condiments aren’t served separately and are instead mixed into the dish, but beggars can’t be choosers.

On Monday had some event as cousins passed exams and got into uni. One cousin also done good in GCSE's.

Salad, meatballs, biryani, kebabs, some aloo thing, lamb karahi, roti and then sauces. In dessert was watermelon, apple crumble, custard, ice cream and kheer and sticky toffee pudding

This thread looks boring without pictures. :inti

tandori lamb chops with a cheesy Naan & then gulab jamun with rabri & slivered pista & almond on top - very nice . Lamb chops were perfectly marinated .

Just ate rice with Taki fish (Channa Punctata or spotted snakehead).

I haven't eaten this fish since 2004 or 2005. I must say this fish is not as delicious as some other fishes.

On Saturday mum made delicious dinner, chicken biryani with lamb chops. Also some vegetables :) back to uni next week

the best goat keema [ as in meat + fat % ] & green peas with simple crisp tawa parathas in ghee & side of onion/tomato/cucumber salad . Desert was a simple Natural's Sitafal icecream .
