Latter is what I suggested to him as well. The do it yourself stove variant is the authentic version and really good. Just takes some prep time.I have these too.
I'm not that big a fan of this type but it's on if needed as necessity.
Some of the local shops here sell the tea and milk mixture and you can heat it yourself on the stove. It's quite good.
