Yes i have heard of it but the authentic one has salt in it. People drink it every single day in this part of Kashmir.

We eat a lot of things in Daigs but never heard of Shaab daig bro.

Shabdeg is a stew of meat and turnips, slow cooked all night, hence the name. It is considered the quintessential Kashmiri delicacy in Pakistan, so much so that one of Nawaz Sharif’s nicknames is actually turnip.

I guess it isn’t as authentic as we thought, if you haven’t heard of it.

Sweet potato with vegetables, mayo and kebabs. Had no bread and too cold so I don't fancy going out in this weather to get some

I think it might be a dish from from Azad Kashmir?

I doubt it, it is widely considered to have arrived with the settlers from the valley proper.

I guess it will regain its popularity in Kashmir once we unite.

I hope so. We do have dishes of turnips and lamb meat here called "Gogji maaz". I will ask some elders about the shabdeg. Maybe its an old traditional name or something which i havent heard. I doubt it though, i would have surely heard of it.

do you guys have dosa every other day? like is it a staple you have often

also do people have chai in south india?

Nope. Only once a week we make it here (in Kerala). But in TN and Karnataka, i guess they consume it more.

My breakfast menu are the following. Since you have no idea about our malayalam words, i will show it through pictures. Thanks to the google images.:)

Monday=Puttu and kadala curry (ofcourse without that banana leaf)

Tuesday=Vellappam and chicken curry(left over from prev night)

Wednesday= Pathiri and egg curry/egg roast

Thursday=Dosa and coconut chutney.

Friday= Bread toast and nutella. I too need some rest once a weekday.;-)

Weekends= idiyappam and coconut milk. It takes a lot of time to prepare.

Along with all these breakfast, a cup of tea is mandatory. Tea is the most common beverage here.

Experts don't need a timetable. But i need one otherwise i will forget to make the batter on the previous day. Not to mention my whole schedule for a day will also get ruined.

And these appam, dosa etc are generally made for breakfast only. Lunch and dinner are usually rice and chapathi with some curries and non veg fries.

Legends :thumbsup

For the umpteenth time, having pasta with beef bolognese sauce

KFC zinger burger meal with chips, chicken wings, coleslaw and pepsi. Would have prefered Peri-Peri but I don't mind. Also takeaway on a Monday Night, not good Teymur :mn:livid:

Only one?

An omelette of 4 eggs. Might sound a lot to some non-gym goers. I dont take supplements so i rely mostly on things like eggs, cottage cheese and meats for my protein.

Yesterday I had chicken mince for once at Uni. Made that in a pasta sauce and ate with pasta, cheese etc.

Also later boiled brown rice added vegetables, and made a tuno mayo filling and ate it with that.

Looks awesome man! Great effort.:19:

BTW, is that mutton?? Did you make that roti too?

Wow!! Extremely impressive.

I need to learn cooking so badly. We cant be sure when we would need it.
La Madré kicks me out of kitchen every time i attempt to boil water 😭

Thanks. Yeah I just recently learned it too. Comes in handy.

Unless you are staying with your mom or have a maid, you should cook yourself. That will be healthy and less expensive too.

Chicken Parmesan.

If you've not tried it, find some and enjoy :)

Not bad, you might have used too much oil though but I think that's what Indians tend to do generally from experience, they were shocked by the tiny amount I use to make chicken curry and stuff

That much of oil is mandatory in desi meat items. You being a pseudo english wouldn't know it .

I swallowed my pride and finally admitted that I was wrong about something to my wife. Didn't want to give her the upper hand though. Don't know if that counts.

Had chicken qalia last night with tomatoes and yoghurt. Hadn't even heard of chicken qalia tbh, I just had some frozen food that my mum/grandma made and sent a picture to my mum asking what it was lol. Delicious.

It was Pi(e) Day today, so there were plenty of homemade pies at work. I sampled pecan, apple, strawberry, blueberry, pumpkin, Concord grape, cheese, mince, rhubarb, and Key Lime.

It may sound like a lot, but I had just a bite of each. It must've added up to one consolidated slice, maybe two. Nevertheless, one is consumed by guilt and self-loathing on such occasions, and such is the case right now.

In such instances I usually just indulge in everything else forbidden to make the whole episode much more worthwhile and make proper use of the guilt and self loathing.

Yes, really put the Cheat in Cheat Day, so to speak. Logistics stand in the way of that approach. Also the guilt and self-loathing would then be stratospheric, requiring time in a monastery for penance befitting such bacchanalian debauchery.

I just take a bunch of seltzers the next day, but hey, to each his own.

Ah, so when you said you indulged in everything else forbidden, you were limiting yourself to food items. My bad, as the kids say these days.

Masala dosa.

The best masala dosa i have ever eaten. Better than 5 star restaurants. It was at a local Dhaba - Krishna Vaishno Dhaba. I recommend it to anyone who visits Srinagar. Some really good veg food.
