Tricky series, this.

India are #1 and have done pretty well recently in Tests. However, they have a patchy record in England specially in recent times and their squad looks a bit depleted due to injuries.

England have been inconsistent of late but are still a good team specially in home conditions, and will be hungry to beat the #1 side. It looks like they will have a full strength squad at their disposal.

2-1 India. I may turn out to be wrong afterall it is just a prediction.

What will be the outcome of the Test match series between England and India?

What do you guys think will be the outcome of the test series between these 2 sides? I personally feel England will win the series but India will atleast win 1 match.

India will not even win a test match despite favourable conditions :ssmith

5-0 India, anything other then that should be seen as a failure for Indian team on this test tour.

I voted for England. I think it will be 3-1 to England with 1 draw although draws are a lot more rare in Test cricket these days.

Not feeling confident after looking at the team. Once again Kohli will be the key. I think Ishant will be a surprise package in this series. He has performed well in his county stint. So he has experience of playing in these conditions. He should play in all the test matches.

3-2 to England

The deciding factor, in my opinion, will be spin bowling. Both sides have a very strong batting line up, fast bowling wise England might be ahead a little bit because of Broad and Anderson being so good at home, but still India has also a bowling line up capable of running through a line up on their day with Kumar, Shami and Ishant.

So this far its even Stevens in my opinion.

However, the question is: who will be the spinner(s) England will choose. Moeen Ali has improved his bowling alot in recent times, but there is no way he will trouble the Indian batsmen. Dom Bess wont have any impact either if he plays, so will they go for someone else? Liam dawson maybe or Mason Crane?

Also, I feel that it could go two ways for Kuldeep during this test series. One possibility is simple, he will pick up a lot of wickets. Second possibility is that he might not be effective now that the England batsmen have ‘figured’ him out a little after having played him in the t20’s and odi’s and Kohli might even have to drop him after 2-3 matches.

So what do you Guys think will happen?:ishant

5-0 to India. Humilaiting defeats for England. With KL Rahul being the highest scorer and Kohli announcing his resignation from captaincy at the end. Pandaya taking 5fers every match and scoring with an average of 50. BV Kumar getting back from injury averaging 10 wickets per match showing the world that Indian bowlers are the best.

and then freelance_cricketer , cricketjoshila Varun and Mamoon and rest of the entrouage wake up from their dream. :23: :yk

3-1 to England is my prediction, like 2014.

We'll snatch a fluke win somewhere, and rain will help us draw another.

Cook scoring a big ton, and us bringing Root back to form will mean we lose 3 however.

4-0 to England. One test match is a draw. Rockstars will be brought back down to Earth. :bm

it's going to be same like it's been happening to so called best team.India ain't going to win more than one match.4-1 in favour of England and India's record will go worse from 20 losses to 24 losses and 3-4 wins overseas against top teams.

3-2 India

Eng batsmen will choke against the Indian spinners...

Bhuvaneshwar Kumar is injured and out of the series.

But India have Ishant Sharma who will single handedly win them the series... bwahahahahaha! :ishant

But wasnt India going to dominate all formats? :(

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a huge loss for India. He is the best swing bowler in Asia, and is always a big threat in Tests when the ball swings. He would taken at least two 5 wicket hauls in the 5 Tests, and he cannot be adequately replaced at this point.

I would have backed India in a short series, i.e. 2-3 matches, but a five match series usually favorites the home team. England have underperformed massively over the last 6-7 months or so.

They are a much better side than what they showed in Australia, New Zealand and at home to Pakistan, and a long series will allow some of their big players to return to form.

Please clear this for me.Even though England were smashed in Australia and New Zealand and only drew against an inexperienced Pakistan, they are still a good side. What if it had been Pakistan? The team you supposedly support? The reality is that England is nothing more than an average side who only does well at home sometimes.

Their last tours to a few countries :

They were beaten handily in the UAE

They drew in the West Indies

They drew in Bangladesh.

They were demolished in India.

They did well against a poor South Africa away.

They were beaten in Australia

They were beaten in New Zealand.

They drew their last series at home (against Pakistan).

There is no cure for delusion.

England have a core of 6-7 top class players who walk into any Test team in the world at their best.

In the last few months, a lot of their players have not been able to hit form. Some of them are past their prime as well, but over a long series against the same opposition at home, you would have back at least 3-4 of them to hit peak form.

India is also missing their best bowler outside Asia who cannot be replaced at the moment.

I voted for India but beating England in a 5 match series in England is still something no team can do easily. In fact, beating any team in a 4,5 match series away is hard. Would have been a bit more confident without injuries and better selections but just hoping for the best. :)

It doesn’t matter how good their players are if they cannot play well as a team.It doesn’t matter how many players will ‘walk into’ other teams because that will not and cannot happen in real life.

That they haven’t hit form or are past their prime, those are just excuses.England are an average test team and their previous tours to other countries are a testament to that.

India will lose to England.I do not dispute that. They may be an average team but at home they are a bit better, especially against Asian sides.India will have to adapt to the conditions to do well.

England 3-2. Doubt there'll be a drawn test since conditions are good here in England and can't really see rain happening and in most scenarios you get a match with a result.

Voted for India too brother. :ssa

5-0 to England. But at the end of the series it will feel like 50-0.

Our bowling is a joke without BK and Bumrah.

Ishant will play all Tests. We have no option.

2-1 England or 2-1 India.

More of the latter this india team is as stacked as it can get. Contrary to all I think Bhuvi should recover before 2nd test giving almost a months rest. hes not been ruled out. Then shami, Ishant whos actually proven in these conditions could be trouble for this weak english side outside of root, or maybe cook whos hit or miss. No woakes, Anderson not fully fit same for broad and on last legs might see them breaking down during the series. I'd truly be shocked if India don't win this espically these dry conditions suit Kulbusep, Ashwin.

If a one D inexperienced Pakistan can win India can do loads better with all the prep.

With Bhuvi gone I am not at all convinced too many passengers congratulations England

I did not realise we were playing just one practice match before the Test series! ODI series finished on 17th. Wonder why we could not have played one more practice match from today.

Some players like Rahane and Vijay did play for India A vs England A. Pujara and Ishant have played some county cricket but their last county / FC match was nearly a month back in June. So many others in the squad - Dhawan, Kohli, Rahul, Karthik, Pandya, Ashwin, Shami and Umesh will go into the 1st test with just 1 FC match.

Also no practices matches between 2nd and 3rd Test, we play all 5 tests one after another. Players on the bench will have no opportunity to put their case forward for selection.

Poor planning and pathetic scheduling. No lessons learnt from SA disaster.

Moeen ran through India last time.

Crane is injured.

Kuldeep appears to have been worked out by Root, but I would still give him a run becaus3 some of the others can’t pick him.

Anderson may be less effective in the sunny weather we have enjoyed, but late in the season some dewy effects might help him.

India should aim to win this series IMHO. This is a golden chance for them.

Pakistan drew the series in England, and we're bottom ranked. Supposedly this Indian team is #1, it's time they started playing like number one team.

BK's absence is a blow. But team looks good and settled. Kuldeep is an exciting addition to this team! They should be able to get 20 wickets!

Openers are settled. Middle order is looking good this time around as well.

Can't wait for it to begin!

All that said, I pray England deliver them a 5-0 epic phainta for the ages! :yk

My prediction 3-1 to England tho.

I think India will win at Lords and Oval. Rest three, we have to watch, whether India can draw how many or even any of them?

I think, because of lack of rain, the Indians will feel at home, soooooo ...... ever so slight edge to the Indians !!!!!

Yes India are No.1 and have gotten better overseas but people are underestimating how good England can be in home conditions especially in a long series where there players have the time to get settled, find form.

I can see the weather starting to change, don't think it will be as hot and humid as it has been recently during the series throughout August.

I might be wrong but I believe that India should easily win the series, considering their prolific batting. England's batting is fragile imo. Batsmen other than Cook, Root, and Bairstow need to step up big time here. I hope they do prove me wrong and win the series though.

India should start the series reasonably well given the conditions. However, I think that England will move the ball around better, and England will do well against India’s bowling.

Similar story to 2014 will occur in my view. India start strong but will lack the steam in a 5 Test series which this series shouldn’t be (max 4). England I reckon 3 or 4-1.

Pujara has nothing to prove to anyone. Kohli doesn't care if he gets runs or not for him team playing well is more important. Dhawan is busy collecting eggs. Don't know how are we going to perform.

India won't even win a single test, people who are thinking that we might win the series are delusional.

Just a question for people, which 3 bowlers will take 12/13 wickets regularly

Which 4 batsman will get 300 runs collectively in the two innings of a test

If you think about it, then you realise India's cupboard is bare.

I just hope this is the end of Tracer bullet Shastri

England 2-1 with 2 draws.

I don't think there will be 2 draws unless there's lots of rain, at most I can see one draw. Draws are becoming very rare in Test cricket in the last few years.

Tough to predict exact numbers but Eng will win the series for sure. Its impossible for India to beat Eng in a 5 test series with key bowlers being injured out. There cant be any flukes in test cricket and when its a 5 matcj series, its out of question.

Can't see India doing well over 5 Tests.

England 3-1 or 2-1 depending on the weather.

England to win. Looking at our batting order, it is going to be blown away most often than not. Batting heavily relies on Kohli and Rahane, if they fail it will struggle. Pujara is a no show outside subcontinent, Vijay will hang around. If Rahul Succeeds and India play Pant, we have chance to be competitive.

I hope to be proved wrong but honestly I'm expecting 4-0 to England.

Best case scenario for India, they can extract a draw out of it (maybe 1 will get washed out or something). That said, expect them to win atleast 1 match. How Kohli performs is going to determine if they stay competitive across the 5 games.

Without Bhuvi, India stands no chance.

Doesn't help that Bumrah is injured too and Shami looks out of form coming back from an injury.

Fielding your second string bowlers against a formidable English batting line up is not an ideal scenario, especially considering how bad India's second string bowlers are.

Indian test squad is in shambles - Dhawan, Pujara are totally out of sorts, Rahane hasn't been consistent, team management has no faith in KL Rahul, Bhuvi and Bumrah are injured, Shami has had lots of personal problems, Ashwin and Jadeja have lost the faith of their captain, Kuldeep is unknown at FC level.

Only Kohli, Pandya, Dinesh Karthik, Ishant and to some extent Vijay look to be somewhat settled.

We are wasting time on Pandya. I fear they may stick with him until the WC.

Pandya is inconsistent. Ishant is a ttf although he looks to have turned the page. DK is still a non-entity.

That leaves us with Kohli. Feels like the 90s again. :kohli

India is half the side in Tests(in SA, England) when Bhuvi is not playing. England should win.

I may be mistaken but if i remember correctly India has 3 series wins when touring England ( 1971, 1986 , 2007)
I thought Pakistan had won a lot more series touring England.
But I only recall series wins in 1987 , 1992 and 1996 i.e 3 series wins.
Or did i get the stats wrong?
If stats are not wrong, both teams have been poor travelers to England. aint it?

Except Kohli is Anderson's bunny and has a tailenderesque record in England, unlike Sachin who averages in the mid 50s with 4 tons.

Only two three days left for posters whose bread and butter is the "kohli avgs in teens in england" dialogue.
Search for a place to hide.

3-0 to England.

Not sure India can take 20 wickets cheaply enough to win tests in England.
