What would have been Kevin Pietersen's batting average if he had a full-fledged Test career?

Over his career, KP played 104 tests and scored over 8000 runs at a batting average of 47. However, he was dropped in 2013 due to his own antics.

He debuted in tests in 2004 and played his last in 2013.His average was close to 50 till 2009 and from there he lost the consistency and it dropped to 47.

What do you think his batting average would have been if he didnt got sacked and had a continued full-fledged career of over or around 150 tests?

46 - 47. He came back to form year or two later but surely wasn't consistent as of peak.

Batting average levels off after a certain sample size. It goes lower as you age past 35, but rarely changes drastically. He would average the same or similar.

In his last 12 tests, he was averaging 32. ECB got the license to sack him given this downhill performance and they did that. If he followed his 149 and 186 previous year with something similar in 2013 Ashes(over 10 tests), he won't have been sacked.

44-45 I believe. A bit too much of inconsistency. However, he might have played 2-3 more iconic knocks.

He was just an unique kind of player. He can produce something extraordinary outta nowhere but never ready to play the support part in test cricket which is very vital too.

He was already on the way down. Last 10 tests or so he was below average to say the least.

Yes, he was averaging 32-33 in last 12 tests.

But as I said, he had that knack of producing that extraordinary outta nowhere, he could have made a comeback too if ECB persisted him. However, these fluke knocks with lots of inconsistency doesn't help your average and it would have gone down below 45 if he continued for 3 years more.

Amla and Cook's average have dropped drastically.

Amla, yes. Cook not so much. Cook's been averaging 44.23 for last 4 years, which is not so much lower than his career average.

Here's Cook's average at the end of every year since 2010. His average has mostly hovered around 46 and 47 entire career.

2010 - 46.18 (64 test)
2011 - 49.73 (72 test)
2012 - 49.42 (87 test)
2013 - 46.98 (101 test)
2014 - 46.03 (109 test)
2015 - 47.05 (123 test)
2016 - 46.46 (140 test)
2017 - 46.52 (151 test)

About the same I feel. He would be a 47-48 averaging player.

It was dropping after Textgate so I expect it would have been lower than what he actually finished on.

Though he would have still hit a hundred every series.
