What XI should India play for the upcoming clash against Pakistan at the ICC T20 World Cup?

seems about right, if upto me, i would play Shardul Thakur over Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. The only plus i see with playing Bhuvaneshwar is that sooner he fails, sooner he will be replaced by Thakur during the tournament.

Ideally out of form Kohli shouldn't even be in the squad (in general guys like Kohli, Root, Smith, Kane, Babar are matchwinners in ODIs but liabilities in modern T20s) but since he is captain he will play. Hope he doesn't need to bat, only if we get a horror start can he be somewhat useful.

Kishan to open to make up for tortoise Rohit, also he can rattle someone like Imad Wasim first up, like how Sehwag went after Gul in 2011 Mohali.

SKY our best T20 batsman to control proceedings at number 3.

Pant at 4 to keep left-right combo going. Also helps that he is a big match player.

Rahul at 5, lesser the balls he faces more devastating he can get since no room for overthinking or selfishness.

No Pandya please, unfit, out of form, won't bowl. Jadeja plays as our main all-rounder. Again this means 3 southpaws in our top 7.

No Bhuvi, Thakur is a much better option both with ball and bat. And he is a lucky charm for us.

No Ashwin since Pakistan has very few left-handers. Varun C will be a deadly option because of the mystery factor and no Pakistani batsman having ever faced him.

Bumrah and Shami our pace spearheads.

Pakistan struggles against spin on slow pitches. So we should take 3 spinners - Varun , Chahar & Jadeja
 
With Dhoni in the dressing room, I'd imagine Ashwin will be in the playing XI

Because the opposition is Pakistan, I will have Shami over Bhuvi and any of Rahul or Varun over Ashwin. Ashwin is a miss for me unless the opposition has atleast 3 left handers in top 6.

Two conundrums before the team would be

1. How to accommodate Ishan if at all. I doubt Surya would make way so Ishan likely to sit this out.
2. Whom to pick between Shardul and Bhuvi - both of them leaky faucets with the ball.

Nobody has dropped jadeja - so 4 more overs guaranteed.

Where is the 6th bowler…

Who is this varun? When did he born? What are his credentials?

Yet the only time India won this trophy was on the back of a squad of rookies. Seniors couldn't do jack in later editions. In this format give me more of these fearless youngsters over proven failures.

That's the point. Most of them do not think about bowling options and just post their teams without giving any thought. In my opinion it is stupid to play all 3 wicketkeeper batsman. We can play an all rounder and strengthen both our bowling and batting departments. :inti

Strange!!
Most of the posters argued that India should not play Pandya if he can't bowl.
Yet everyone included him in playing eleven.
 
I would go with your XI.

Maybe have Bhuvi in the place of Thakur in the first match. Both are poor T20 batters, but Bhuvi a better bowler.

Varun looks like someone who'll let the occasion affect him. Would rather go with Ashwin or Chahar over him.

Bhuvi over Shardul because I dont have confidence on other death over bowlers.

I think it's not difficult to pick Indian side, most of spots and position are set, except the lower middle order and bowlers

I think Pant and hardik can be used as floaters higher up order

Some changes can happen with extra spinner coming in place of thakur, Varun is my preference

Don't ever trust kaptaan. He himself has no idea what he is talking about. Don't be surprised to see Hardik dropped altogether.
