Today the PCB has announced that the head coach Mickey Arthur and his all of his support staff - the blowing coach, the batting coach and the trainer - have been let go from their positions.

The chief selector has already been pressured into resigning.

Following the failure to reach the semi-finals of the WC 2019, there has been a lot of chatter about starting afresh. There have been changes in key and leadership roles everywhere, yet the Captain remains untouchable.

Since Mickey Arthur joined Pakistan, we won 10 out of 28 Tests under Arthur, losing 17 and drawing one. In the last two years. Under Arthur, Pakistan won 29 of 66 ODIs, losing 34 with three no-results.

Sarfraz Ahmed was also at the helm producing these results. When will he be held accountable?

A brilliant post.

We have let go of our best coach since Bob Woolmer and best Chief Selector we ever had.

Meanwhile there's yet to be accountability for a pathetic captain who hasn't scored a hundred in any format in god knows how long. Someone who never shows up when the team requires a captain's knock and is tactically inept, having lost so many close matches from winnable positions.

Of course his loyalists and media lobby relentlessly bashed Mickey and Inzamam to protect their hero and deflect the blame. However most fans know what the bitter truth is.

Sarfraz should be sacked.

But the hypocrisy of Arthur-loving brigade is amazing on this topic.

Arthur was as much a culprit, or even bigger, than Sarfraz. You can't defend Mickey and bash Sarf.

Agreed. Sarfraz needs to go in Tests and ODIs. Not only as a captain, but as a player too.

Of these 3 (Sarfraz, Mickey, and Inzy), Sarfraz is hands down the worst in his respective role. It will be a farce if he stays as captain in any format.

Yet if you read the articles or watch sports shows in the mainstream media in Pakistan, all you see is criticism for everyone but Sarfraz.

Sometimes I wonder these mainstream journalists have the country's interest in their heart.

Most of them pursue some lobby than talk on merit.

Sarfraz got a massive lifeline after winning CT 2017. Without it, he would've been gone a long time ago probably.

Remember the blame's order is 1) selectors 2) coaches and 3) captain. So for the team's poor performance, Inzi is the 1st culprit then Mickey is the 2nd culprit and finally Sarfraz is the 3rd culprit.

I am expecting Sarfraz to lose captaincy in Tests and/or ODI formats.

Excuse me, it's the captain who runs the show. Our unbeaten UAE record would be intact had the Asian Clive Lloyd took some responsibility with the bat and guided us home in those two tight Abu Dhabi chases vs SRL and NZL.

What is Sarfraz's batting average in all formats since his appointment as captain ? Mickey cannot captain, bat and keep for him.

Would any self-respecting international captain still merit a place in the side, let alone World Cup squad, with numbers like his ?

No ! They would resign but instead we have Captain Fantastic clinging onto the post like Colonel Gaddafi.

Test average of 25.81 in the last two years:

In England: 10.33
In South Africa: 18.66

Australian series in the UAE was the only time he averaged more than 30 in a series.

Be patient. Sarfraz will definitely be gone in a few days

I have my doubts about that, since Misbah is on the committee. Sarfaraz is no longer the best Wicketkeeper/ Batsmen in Pakistan. But he is guaranteed to play because of Captaincy. Which is unfair to Mohd Rizwan (he at least deserves to be in race for a spot in the side )

Also test team needs an overhaul, since we play so few tests, the most important format is slipping away from Pakistan. In the long term no side can be a top team if they are ****** in Tests. example is West Indies, who tried to Focus only on White Ball cricket and are now little better than Minnows.

Sarfraz isn't Misbah type of a strong captain who will 'run the show'.

Arthur didn't know how to win Test matches, strangle the opposition and take the game deep. His stubbornness of not picking proper spinners also cost us quite a bit.

Sarfraz is definitely responsible, a bit more than Mickey even and didn't lead from the front, but Arthur has to be sacked and rightly so too.

If the alternative is Rizwan, then let me tell you Sarfraz is miles better.

Excellent observation.

Some of his fans tell us there is no one better in the country than Sarfaraz.

So Pakistan can’t produce a player who can average over 25?

Sarfraz fans and his media buddies have no shame.

Sarfraz fans tell us how much of a victim he is, yet PCB seem to be doing everything to protect him.

He’s only going to remain captain in T20s. A goner in tests and ODIs.

Totally wrong as far as Sarfraz as captain is concerned. Sarfraz is one of the meekest captain Pakistan has ever produced who has no backbone (and it was most likely the main reason he was selected as captain). Dont try to confuse Sarfraz with Imran Khan or YK who ran the show when captain. This show was ran by Inzi along with Mickey Arthur. Sarfraz was just a yes man.

Actually this is the standard excuse from Sarfraz loyalists to deflect blame from his absymal captaincy - that he had no power and that Mickey and Inzamam were really pulling the strings.

It was Sarfraz who insisted on the selection of his Quetta Gladiators teammate Mohammed Hasnain for the World Cup despite Hasnain barely having any domestic experience. He also insisted on recalling Wahab Riaz (which wasn't a bad call in retrospect). So how was Sarfraz a powerless skipper ?

Sarfraz has total control over on field tactics, and we've seen how inept he is in finishing an opponent off when they're down, and how bizarre his bowling changes are. Or was Inzamam captaining via an earpiece in Sarfraz's ear ?

Mate just relax. Sarfraz will be gone too I'm very sure. Just wait a week or two.

I am sure he will be gone. I guess they are getting rid of the coaching staff first.

I'm certain he'll lose the test captaincy at some point over the next few weeks. Never cared about the other formats so he can continue to lead the team there for another decade or two if he wants.

Good post, i was also wondering when it will happen, i hope soon. Fed up with a captain with zero performance but yelling on other players

Seniority culture is very powerful in Pakistan environment and with the absence of Malik and Hafeez, Sarfraz is the only senior player who can be a captain.
No way PCB will give young players like Sadab or Babar the captaincy job.

And Sarfraz Gets category 'A' central contract along with proven and consistent performers Babar Azam and Yasir Shah. Quite an achievement when you haven't actually won any matches for your country.

A very strong media lobby means he isn't going anywhere.

Dream on.

In ODIs (at the very least), Sarfraz does not deserve to be playing over Rizwan, who had accomplished more in a handful of ODIs than what the specialist captain has in the last 2 years!

So we got the answer. Sarfraz is beyond accountability.

So the Wasim khan has overseen:

The firing for Inzamam and Mickey Arthur.
The appointment of Misbah as both head coach and chief selector.
The retention of Sarfi as the skipper.

This is exactly the opposite of the progress I hoped we would make under the new PCB. Things have never looked more bleak for Pakistan Cricket.

Just shows you, Misbah is more interested in retaining his buddies like he was with his captaincy and performance not mattering. The progress of the team is of a secondary concern.

So will babar get the same treatment as sarfaraz if babar doesn't reach the semi finals?

If you read through these comments nobody thought any injustice happened to Sarfaraz at the time.

Non-performing specialist captain who yelled at others is not a ringing endorsement.

Personally I cant imagine that Babar will keep his job either if we don’t make the semis. But let’s see.
