Where are the statements from Aussie media about England's pitiful performances?

When Pakistan was touring Australia everyone concerned were pointing out how listless Pakistan was and if ACB has made a mistake in inviting Pakistan and how Pakistan has to justify its invitation by performing.

These double standards by both Australian and British media in quickly pointing other teams worth or lack of worth when they tour but they tend to forget how their teams are doing when they tour.

England and Australia recently have been the poorest teams to travel and yet their media seem to be oblivious to those facts and are ready to pounce on other smaller teams bad performances. The smaller teams in their eyes have to somehow justify their presence.

When WI were in full glory these two teams were lining up to get them to play them but once they faded now they are not even after thought for them.

In last 40 year one or two Ashes series have lived up to its billing other wise it has been same monotonous drubbing of weaker team. But still they are fine to have Ashes at regular intervals.I some how find this double standards very wrong.

There's more context when it comes to the Ashes, especially now that the Australian team isn't as great as it once was.

Secondly, England have actually won in Australia in recent years. Pakistan's last 3 tours to Australia have been complete disasters.

I was actually thinking about how Pakistan gets treated like a second-tier team by Australia. Something that England, India (when they used to play us) or South Africa don't do. The reason is that our players found themselves incapable of winning a test in Australia in recent memory.

England have managed to win 4 games & 1 entire series in Oz this century. Oz might win more, but England always arrive with some hope of doing well.

Pakistan have never managed to win a single test match here. Ever.

The times England were drubbed 5-0 were by the last, vengeful fury of an ATG team in 2007 & by Mitchell Johnson last time. No team was going to beat them.

England always try hard & a win is a fair win. Punters get what they pay for. Last time Pakistan came they fixed/threw the Sydney Test. People here find that pretty offensive.

Tradition will always mean the Ashes Tests have meaning here. Other nations popularity will ebb & flow according to their entertainment value (ala WI). That is the way the world works, if Oz has a down period & have no star players for a while then maybe one day India will no longer want to play us as often & we will suffer the same. Just the way the world works.

If you are going by inept batting by Pakistan then it happens all the time. You can check how pathetic collapses Pakistan had in many games in recent year to lose tests. Just because Pakistan is not capable to even draw a game in Aus, it doesn't mean that they don't want to avoid losing.

Nog talking about the batting. Talking about Akmal dropping catches & refusing to complete run outs/stumpings even when he has the ball in his gloves. Just standing there until the batsman got back in his ground. Anyone who watched that game saw the fix was in. I could almost believe the 3 catches he drops ofd Kaneria (video doesn't show the two simple drops off Sami either) but on the run out you see him delibaretly raise the gloves over the stumps to avoid them. He had to actually go out of his way to avoid them as his gloves were naturally going to hit the stumps with his movement.

PP'er may laugh & say Akmal was incompetent- but he is clearly a cheat & the faces of some other players on that game show it too.

Oh, I didn't pay attention and assumed you were talking about the last series. I remember Akmal going out of the way to ensure that batsman is not out. I don't have to watch it again.

I don't feel it was fixed but I will never be able to give any reasonable explanation for that missed run out.

The dropped catches are what they are, but seeing that missed run-out is incredible and extraordinary, how is the guy technically still eligible for selection?!

In most Test-playing countries there would have been a public enquiry into Akmal after that, not sure why this did not happen.

The other more plausible reason is that, as Buffet said, he allowed the ball to bounce, let it hit the stumps, & then see what happens. If you watch that replay at 0.25x speed you'll see that the throw was pathetic, neither a lob nor a quick one so even if Kamran whipped the bails it'd be 50/50 because Watson dived.

Now I can't say why he didn't remove the bails but if we're going conspiracy theorists then the (innumerable) dropped catches are more of an evidence wrt match fixing than the non run out itself.

Pakistan were a million times more competitive than this awful English team, but they're not going to criticize them because it will devalue this overrated series.

Ian Chappell most of the time put the facade of an expert while spitting out comments that makes you want to bang your head against the wall. He once said Upul Chandana is the best leg spinner in the world that time.

Maybe because he has a good record in Australia while all other spinners sucked.

12 wickets in 2 games at 22.50.

Who cares, I don't read the trashy stories and crappy journo's, and if I did I certainly wouldent waste my own time being upset by them.

Well, Pakistan did perform much better than England are right now.

We should not talk!!!!! We can't even win against weaker Sri Lanka in UAE. Our performance will be worse if we play against Australia in Australia with 3 duck studded players + Shafiq in playing eleven.

England is a rival so smashing them is not only not boring but quite pleasurable.

The fact that Australian public doesn't consider Pakistan a rival is the reason why Chappel said what he said and we should accept that.

Despite the fight in maybe one of the tests on the tour, we unravelled and lost the series 3-0 and none of the Australians really enjoyed the fight. Maybe like India, if we could sustain rivalry, through in some pressure, add some controversies here and there and add context to the series, the Australian public and pundits would sit up and take notice.

The ground reality is that teams don't want to host us because we are not money spinners. It's as simple as that.

If an Ashes tour would stop making Australia money, Chappel and Co. would say the same thing. There's no real rocket science behind it.

Yeah.

I mean lets face it - if Australia's next few series in the UAE (hopefully in Pakistan soon) were like our last series then Pakistani fans would be pretty unexcited about the prospect of hosting Australia.
But if Pakistan were routinely beating India... well I think Pakistani fans would still be enthralled.

Let's just admit there's no good cricket going on at the moment?

Aus-Eng, NZ-WI and India-SL have made for horrific viewing.

Cannot wait for the T20 tri series, NZ-Eng and India-SL for some good competitive cricket.

True.

That's the reason our board doesn't want to host Bangladesh because they are lowkey sure that the public won't watch and the matches would be more like mismatches but when Australian pundits say that about actual mismatches since 1999 (18 years and counting), our massive egos are hurt.

Well dont watch it, go and watch something else.
I have it on the background, I check the score here and then but I usually end up spending most of time reading my notes or browsing the net. There's little reason to put the laptop or files away and sit down to watch it.

Cricket makes for great background noise, you don't need to pay attention to most of it and can tune in when things get good/close. Which hasn't happened much this summer.

Cricket may not be your sport if you only watch it if its close. Some people watch a match that may be one sided but there are many smaller battles going on that are exciting and interesting, you are probably more suited to T20's and this new T10's.

Or maybe I enjoy a contest? Not one sided mismatches across ~25 days.

The Ashes has a 135-year history, played by the two countries that created the idea of cricket as a global brand.

Australia and England have both won 32 series each and there have been 5 drawn series. A magnificent and close rivalry indeed, usually (these days at least) played in a good spirit of the game, it’s indisputably one of the greatest contests in the history of sport.

Pakistan v Australia does not compare to this situation I am afraid. Just saying it like it is.

To some of us its not all about the result of the match, there have been some fascinating individual performances and battles that are intertwined with each match. Watching Lyon bowl for example has been superb, there is so much more to a test match than who won.

Like someone mentioned earlier, England did actually win a series in between whereas Pakistan have lost 12 tests on the trot. There's no comparison.

And in Australia at least the Ashes goes well beyond cricket to being a cultural institution.

In England, the Ashes is the one thing about cricket that everyone has heard of, regardless of whether they’re into cricket or not. Not sure if it qualifies as a cultural institution however it is always headline news (not just headline sport) when it is on.

The video at 0;53.....absolutely mind-boggling how this guy was never caught out. Blatant cheating.

I don't feel it was fixed but I will never be able to give any reasonable explanation for that missed run out.

I politely disagree and say there is a very obvious & simple explanation for that missed run out. The 4 dropped catches just strengthen the case.

As a keeper you have to actually make some effort to do to what Akmal did. That's not even natural. Natural reaction will be to try to get batsman out.

Not saying it would have changed any of the results, but with Stokes in the side, I'm sure they would have been more competitive. Shame as he would have been playing at his peak in an away Ashes tour. England contributing to their own downfall in this regards. This series been so boring looking at the scorecards, not worth staying up /getting up to watch the Aussie procession.

England have done well in patches and it is not as dire as their previous trip to Australia. Australia are just too good at home and they have their first choice attack available which makes it difficult for England. They were always going to struggle against Cummins, Starc, Lyon and Hazlewood. Also England not having a genuine spinner at Adelaide and Brisbane where the track had little bit of assistance for the spinners also worked against them. Let me say this once again, Moeen is not a front line spinner.

For Australia the mother country is England. Also the Ashes have a long history. Why do you expect that Australians will feel the same way about Pakistan that they feel about England?

Even his natural follow through motion after catching the ball would have resulted in him knocking the wickets down. It seems that he checked himself so as not to hit the wickets.

I don't but I don't want the statements given by press about if inviting a test team is a good idea or bad idea.Bangladesh has never played in Australia, you need to promote test cricket, it is not all about big four.

If Cricket needs to become global it needs more exposure and less comments like what Ian chappell passed out last year.

I think Bangladesh has played test in Australia because I remember batsman name love scoring century against them

England cricket team is disgracefull no fight. You play aus every second year and Tour aus every 4 year and and still losses like 5-0 almost every time in aus. England players are rubbish mentally. Bowlers not bending their back and batsman afraid of fast bowling and playing like Girls.

Came in to read something along the lines of how the English media give it to Australia and how Australian media in years gone by have been heavily critical of anything England do - and was hoping to see some reasoning behind the lack of this during this series.

Instead, saw that it was the same old crap about "Us vs. them" and bringing Pakistan into every argument for no reason whatsoever.

Great going.
