Where did Kapil Dev rank amongst the great cricketers and all-rounders?

Winning the WC at his peak without the help of rain pushed Dev above the cornered tiger's triumph bruh...

Definitely an all time great. Whenever you mention the GOATs of cricket, his name will be mentioned. Lacked the charisma and the popular appeal of Imran Khan or the other big all-rounders of his day, but was as effective as them. A humble and honest servant of the game. Nothing but respect for him.

One of the greats of the game and quite a humble guy when he speaks. No Drama, no trolling.

India have produced most ATG cricketers after Australia, England and West Indies:-

Sachin Tendulkar
Virat Kohli
Sunil Gavaskar
Kapil Dev
Rahul Dravid

Ravi Ashwin
Anil Kumble
Ravindra Jadeja
Jasprit Bumrah

Greatest test all rounders post 1970:-

1. Imran Khan
2. Jacques Kallis
3. Ian Botham
4. Kapil Dev
5. Ravindra Jadeja
6. Ben Stokes
7. Chris Cairns
8. Andrew Flintoff
9. Tony Greig
10. Daniel Vettori
Hadlee ? Sorry old post. Dint realize.

A 38 ball 72 is a freak knock even today in T20 era.

Kapil pulled these off the hat way back in 1970s-80s against the likes of Marshal, Holding, Roberts, Garner, Croft.

Viv was a complete batsman but at pure destructive ability Kapil was in a different league

All of that said about his batting, and now add to it a bowler who retired with test wickets world record and the only 2nd bowler in his era with 400+ wickets
Damn that is mighty impressive.

H2h vs imran is bad though. That's the only Blemish.

Imran owned kapil in tests.

Nah not really Dev out bowled & out batted Imran in the WI when they were at the peak and also has better bowling stats than Botham and Imran in Australia.

The blemish of Devs' career was he was not a good bowler in ENG and NZ vs lesser calibur players, quite strange really.

Atg Status of Kumble, Jadeja, Bumrah is debatable, many don’t consider them ATG

South Africa has more ATGs

Kallis
Pollock
Abd
Steyn
Donald
Rabada
Graeme Pollock
Nourse

Maybe dint try as hard vs crappier teams. I meant btw vs pakistan. Imran helped Pakistan beat India away from home but India couldn't win a series in Pakistan till 2000 era.

So h2h imran was better than kapil

Pollock and Barry are "could have been" case. They are not ATGs. Neither is Rabada

Yep he ranks among the top all rounders of all time.

By the end of 70s decade, the all rounders quartet had bowling averages a lot different from where they actually ended:-

Botham Avg 19
Kapil Avg 27
Hadlee Avg 30
Imran Avg 31

Only for Kapil, it was stagnant with dip in later part due to injuries, workload and dragging his career for longer.

I appreciate him for achieving everything without illegal means i.e tampering with the ball and stealing wickets.

Most non Asian pacers would also struggle to pick as many wickets as they managed to pick due to playing in their home nations.
