Pak will bring at least 3 Trophies in this cycle . Ur thoughts ?

You never know. We were going so strong this previous T20 world cup... but luck (toss) played a bigger role and we lost semis.

Nobody rated Aussies going into it and voilà they are the champs :yk

In any case, we have fun cricketers in Shaheen, Hassan, Rauf, Babar and Rizwan; so win of lose... this cycle will be fun!

Just like India had a decade of nothing to show in silverware

While it is true that they have not won a LOI trophy in 9 years, What India has achieved in Test cricket in the past decade is something beyond our wildest dreams. If only we had the talent, skill and mentality to replicate that. Alas, we don’t.

The failures of Indian cricket in the past decade tower over the success of Pakistan cricket.

Come on . Team looks stronger day by day .

It is an illusion. We have been here before.

Pakistan will still lose a LOI series to top the top 5 sides in any conditions. Let’s not get fooled by the WT20 where we would have been on the first plane home if Babar didn’t get lucky with the toss.

As soon as we lost the toss against a top team, we got rinsed.

Pakistan will lose a Test series in all of the top 5 playing nations as well, probably get whitewashed every year as well except maybe England who are having major problems of their own.

Pakistan should be a formidable Test side in home conditions but with Yasir’s decline and lack of quality spinners coming through, that equation could change as well.

The emergence of Rizwan and the growth of Shaheen might have Pakistan “relatively” stronger compared to where it was 12-24 months ago, but the reality is apart from Babar and these other two players, we do not have any world class players in any format.

Even Babar himself is far from a world class player in Test cricket and has not proved himself to be comparable to the Fab Four in the Test format at least.

I don’t see any reason to be particular excited about our future. The fans are optimistic and hype every young player, but most of them lose their way somewhere down the line.

Pakistan is a mid-table team in all formats. It will punch above its weight or stoop below it every now and then, but overall, it will not win enough games against the top teams to become one of leading sides in the world in any format.

As a result, I believe that the fans should lower their expectations and just enjoy the game. Don’t expect a level of consistency and quality that Pakistan cricket is not capable of delivering because of its limitations.

Pakistan have the team to win any LOI trophy (World T20, ODI World Cup, and CT).

They have a solid LOI team now.

It depends on what the team will look like and the management will be. Also who will be the captain.

Babar Azam near the end of these tournaments will be 36/37 as will Hasan Ali, Faheem Ashraf and Haris Rauf, so they will be done he could be done in the middle of these tournaments. Shaheen Shah Afridi will be 31, Mohammad Wasim Jnr 30, Shadab Khan 34 and Naseem Shah 28.

So a lot of the players and mainly the core group of these players will be old and Pakistan can not afford to have Shoaib Malik & Mohammad Hafeez "overstaying there welcome" players.

Also how will the PCB develop the sport in the country. Newer stadiums, newer facilities, newer coaching etc.

So to answer your question.... No idea.

What have India achieved in test cricket?

They were pummeled in the final of the Test Championship.

While i dont agree with the poster who thinks India have done much better but you have to "be in the WTC final to get pummelled".

The rest of the teams were not good enough.

Great Thread, it was something I asked myself originally when ICC posted who would be hosting the next couple of toruneys.

Its a hard thing to predict due to so many factors of course.

We have 5 world t20s comings up, I feel Pakistan will win 1 for sure, and if we are a little lucky than maybe 2. I think 2024 would be a good chance to win, I think in WI conditions Pak can do well. The other t20 world cup I see us maybe winning is 2030.

In terms of World cup we have about 3 coming up, I think Pakistan best chance will be 2023, Despite India being home, it will be Asian conditions, and I think we will have found the exact combination we want for that tournament (hopefully) I dont see Pak winning the other ODI world cup ( I hope I am wrong)

For CT, we have 2 coming up as well 2025 In Pakistan and 2029 in India.

Although most People will put Pakistan as favorites to win the Champions Trophy at Home, I feel like Pakistan will crumble under preassure either get out in group stage or make Semi Finals ( again I hope I am wrong)

2029 I feel will be the one ICC tournament India will win that their hosting around this time period.

Let me think:

- India spent more time at the top of the ICC Test ranking than any other team

- India spent more time at the top of the ICC Test ranking than any Asian team in history

- India won two Test series in Australia; no other Asian side in history has won a single Test series in Australia.

- India would probably have won in England last summer as well. They were 2-1 up before the final Test was postponed, and they had thoroughly dominated England.

- Kohli won 39 Tests as captain; more than other Asian captain in history and only Graeme Smith, Ponting and Steve Waugh are ahead of him in terms of most Test wins.

- India established one of the most dominant home records ever in the history of Test cricket.

Pakistan are highly unlikely to win any in Australia. Outside of that, who knows. They're not a top tier team but not as bad as WI/Bangladesh/Sri Lanka etc. Pakistan are pretty unpredictable in ICC tournaments too. Their long-term outlook depends a lot on how good the upcoming batch turns out to be and whether or not they can undergo a true modern transformation. Their batting ability is improving but still not as dangerous as other top tier teams.

I say they will win 1 of them since Pakistan have managed to win one major ICC tournament for the past 3 decades (92', 09', 17')

Some of those tournaments are so far away that it is impossible to predict. There could be a Bradman type player that bursts onto the scene in that time period and takes world cup cricket by storm. For the tournaments where we will probably employ the current core batch of players this is my thoughts.

1. 2022 W-T-20 (Aus) - No. Batting is too weak for these conditions.
2. 2023 WTC Final - No
3. 2023 50 over WC (Ind) - India will win at home, we could go far though.
4. 2024 W-T-20 (WI/USA) - Maybe
5. 2025 CT (Pak) - Maybe

2 of the next 5 are up for grabs.

Thanks mate. Hope pak bring something

The 2022 T20 WC will be a tough one given Australian conditions but then similar was said in 1992.

Minus ODI world cups, ICC tournaments are hard to predict, may be ODI World cups are easiest to
Predict.just Before 1999 world cup, Aus/SA were joint favorites and Aussies did win it ( pak was not favorite before start of 99 wc) From 1996 onwards, every predicted team has won the world cup 2003/07/11/15/19. Sri lanka in 1996 was the last team to turn the tables.

Other ICC tournaments are always unpredictable.
