I said this few days ago that this world cup will be full of upsets. I was expecting Bangladesh and Afghanistan to do those but never expected Zim to beat Pakistan like this. In my opinion this is the biggest upset by Zimbabwe. This is pretty similar to Zimbabwe upsetting Indian team in 1999 ODI WC but at least that zimbabwean team had better players. :facepalm :inti

I told you it is a rubbish tournament. Now I am saying it again, I back my words as always. T20s should never be a right metric to judge any team. :inti

We are not judging any team or asking about the greatest team in this thread. If you got an answer then post it, otherwise don't derail this thread. :inti

Zimbabwe vs australia 2007. That was a gem of a game.

Pontings australia was the team to beat, and Zimbabwe had bought a new player called Taylor.

I remember during that whole mathc, pointing kept pulling out a paper from his pockets that had dls calculation after every ball

Zimbabwe beating that legendary Aussies side in 2007 WT20, biggest upset in the history of this format.

Btw 1999 Zimbabwe (Flower, Streak, Neil Johnson, Campbell, Brandes, Olonga, Carlisle, Whittal) was pretty strong, used to win quite often against Ind those days. And Sachin missed that match because of his dad's death. Not an upset, Bangladesh beating India in 2007 was an upset, yes.

What a strange World Cup so far!

I do think that Ireland beating England is a bigger upset than Zimbabwe beating Pakistan. I expected England to just completely dominate the world cup.

If you people are so upset, then accept that Test Cricket should be the only cricket played between nations.

T20s should not be played between nations, its just for franchisee leagues (yes played for fun!) Because it is impossible to frame a perfect team on a given day with every player on form. Someone like Samuels, Brathwaite, Watson, Russel, etc, can go crazy on a given day! It looks more like fun instead of skill show.

ODIs should be prohibited altogether. Not because its not competitive, it is because of the boredom it brings these days. Unless they revive it like having DAY games only and with RED ball (so that it lasts for almost 50 overs easily, or introduce a new ball after 35 or 40 overs instead of 2 new balls at 2 ends) If you want to have day-night games (for commercial reasons) then at least split it to 4 innings of 20 or 25 overs with 4 new balls (white balls) like Tendulkar advocated. Then this format will get back its glory!

This is the biggest upset. 4 145+ fast bowlers against minnows. Aus probably was caught off guard in 2007 and Eng-Ire match would have gone in Englands favor if it was a full match.

These things happen because associate teams have improved and these foreign conditions narrow the gap.

I think Pak team took too much pressure here but kudos to Zimbabwe for holding their nerve. This is where associates usually lose.

Zimbabwe not winning by 30+ runs Vs Pak. Should’ve been easily done.

You are taking the word 'upset' in a completely different way. Read the thread title again. :facepalm :inti

Zim also qualified for super 6 destroying our chances and knocking England, that cannot be called an upset they were very good back then.

Zim Aus, Ire Eng , Zim PCT (this was the most exciting games in terms of drama).

Overall in LOI I would say Kenya vs Windies in 1996, nothing comes close to that for me.

As an Indian its easily 2007 BD.

Netherlands beating England 2009 world T20, in England.

2007 Zimbabwe beat Australia when T20 was new. Teams still working it out. Even BD beat Windies in the same World T20 2007.

OP was hoping for Pak to upset India, but since that didn't happen, I guess this is the biggest.

Ireland have beaten England before on the big stage. England have a knack of losing to small European teams for some reason.

Here comes a troll with 'OP was this and OP was that' jibes. Get a life dude. :91: :inti

Today Zimbabwe played very well won't say it was an upset. Their fielding was top class saved many runs. Also their fast bowlers surprised me. Didn't expect. Congratulations to them.

Agreed completely. Btw, two mins of silence for Pakistani fans who were making fun of India based on a fluke T20 win lol :91: :inti

Teams like Ned, Sco,Ire, Zim, Namibia can always beat big teams on their day because they do the basics right like fielding etc and they have 1-2 players who are world class who can walk into most teams and if they have that freak performance they can take the game away.

In this game though it was pure team effort by Zimbabwe and also phattu mentality from Pakistan.

You need to be brave to win tournaments. Even India almost made a meal of the Pak game.
Had they played Shaheen on his bowling rather than reputation the game would have been over in 18 overs. Obviously hindsight is 20-20 (no pun intended)

Netherlands beating England in 2009

Zimbabwe is a test nation and has beaten Pak in the past. Ireland also have a test status now and have defeated England in ODIs a couple of times. So I won't rank these 2 upsets above Dutch's victory over England.

Zim beating Aus in 07 would be the 2nd biggest upset. The gap between the two sides was huge. But that was a low scoring thriller with Aus having a top order collapse. Netherlands chased down a decent total.

Too much trolling on this post diverting the attention from the main discussion. We rarely discuss lower ranked teams on this forum and on this thread, posters were supposed to talk about them :mw

Pace is pace yaar..:91:

129/8 should be registered in the same book as 151/0 now because certain folks trolled with 151/0 for almost a year based on that game only :91: :inti

Which is the biggest upset in T20 WC according to you? Are you going to answer now? :inti

If I was an Indian fan, I'd be scratching my head wondering how has my team let this near minnow Pakistan side beat us in a 150+ run chase with 10 wickets in hand.

As long as we have fans like Ab Fan , the trolling will continue. They focus more on trolling and less on the topic at hand. :facepalm :inti

What match were you watching? Zimbabwe fielding was a joke. We stole 20 runs atheist due to their poor throws and more gather by keeper.

10 run out chances were and even on the last ba the game could had tied had Shaheen actual ran faster

Two time champions Windies crashing out of group stages is the biggest ever cricketing upset for me..
Talking about fluke, Pakistan win over India in 2021 WT20 ranks above all.

What game were you watching.Zimbabwe held on to thier catching and thier outfielding was alot better

I actually replayed that run several times because my first reaction was like you that he was ambling and had given up. But after multiple watches I feel he ran at his usual pace. I don't think he's a great sprinter anyway.

nvm. you clearly werent paying attention to the game. fielding isnt about catching.

its about throwing the ball back to the keeper correctly, had ZImbabwe done that, Pakistan would have had 3 run outs and the the margins would had increased

this is by no means an upset... zimbabwe beat a crap team full of mental midgets, nothing shocking... it would have been an upset if this crap team would have made it to the semi's...

Thier was multiple times Pakistan gave 3s and 2s and misfields.

Zimbabwe fought well today. Its not an upset. I think zim beat australia in 2007 wc was biggest upset.Defending 130 against top team is not joke.

Beating a team by 10 wickets is no fluke, in fact the extra runs that were given off the ball were Nawaz bowled Kohli is a fluke, not taking anything away from the The indian win or Kohli, but they had a bit of luck on their side, still an amazing win.

Calling Pakistan win a fluke, is being biased, when you beat a team by 10 wickets, that does not happen by chance, it means you out played them clearly.
