Which of the following upcoming batsmen is/are going to make it to the Indian World Cup XI?

Seeing that a few of them are WK/Batsmen a place which Dhoni has booked till 2019 and that Rahul is more suited to open (a slot that belongs to Rohit), who do you think has a more realistic chance of making it into the WC playing XI in their preferred spot?

Considering our middle order woes, Shubman Gill?

I would like both Shaw and Gill though :-)

Gill Probably. Shaw is an opener and with Rohit/Rahul/Dhawan already there he is not going to get in. The middle order spot is still vacant and Gill can fit into that one.

You don't have any doubts about Rahul?

2 spots are still vacant:
Shikhar Dhawan
Rohit Sharma
Virat Kohli
Player 1
Player 2
MSD
Pandya

Options are Dinesh Karthik, K L Rahul, Manish Pandey, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson, and Rishab Pant.

The selectors wasted so many years giving Yuvraj a chance when there were other options which could have been tried.

I'm sure the youngsters will be given opportunities post the world cup when Dhoni retires and DK is shown the door.

Ideally, the middle order should have three vacancies - Jadhav, Manish Pandey and Dhoni himself.

Realistically though, only the first two might see their name on the chopping block. Rahul selects himself for one of those two slots. Pant and Gill should be competing for the last vacancy.

Personally, I'd jettison Rohit from the team as well and have either Rahul or Shaw pair with Shikhar. Rohit doesn't have the tempo for an opener and far too inconsistent. If I were the selector then India would field the following as their first XI when they take on England in July.

Shaw
Shikhar
Kohli
Rahul
Gill
Pant
H Pandya
Kuldeep
Bhuvi
Umesh
Bumrah

The obvious flaw in this XI being that Pandya would have to bowl 10 overs which is far from ideal at the moment.

Shaw has lot of technical deficencies like Rohit and could be exploited by International pacemen.I would let him play in some A games and prove his mettle.Rahul is much better.

As much as I want this, do people really think Gill would get a call up before the WC, considering Pant and Iyer have already been around?

Ideally Rahul and Gill should fill up those two voids.

DK has already made his way after that inning in final and a successful IPL further cement his position.

Dhoni will be there and I think so would Pandya. So, only one gap is left.

The wicket keeper spot is hot price in I did right now.

Dhoni, DK, Pant, Samson all fighting for it.

The ideal 11 will be:
Rohit(2- 3 overs of bowling )
Dhawan
King
Rahul
Pant/raina(he can provide some 2- 3 overs )
Dhoni
Pandya
Any emerging fast bowler
Kuldeep
Shami
Bumrah

Bhuvi has been dreadful in odis his avg is 38 for God's sake no economy rate justifies such a high average for your opening bowler. He should be replaced as soon as possible by any young fast bowler. .

Where is Chahal?

It will be Rahul in place of Manish Pandey.

Karthik will replace Jadhav.

It will be
1) Rohit
2) Dhawan
3) Kohli
4) Rahul
5) Karthik
6) Dhoni
7) Pandya
8) Kuldeep
9) BK
10) Bumrah
11) Chahal/Shami

The above will be the playing XI.

The Final 14 member squad will surely have Pant, Shaw/Gill, Another Pacer(Avesh Khan/Rajpoot/ Mavi)

Very competitive squad I should say. The recent emergence of Dk has been a surprise. Never seen him play like this before. Unless he fades away in the next few months, he will not lose his spot in the playing XI.

Rahul and DK will probably get those spots with Iyer running close
