This is my selection of bowlers in an all-time test team for a flat, docile wicket on the sub-continent with no pace and bounce.
I would open the attack with Wasim Akram and Andy Roberts .First change I would introduce Malcolm Marshall and 2nd change Imran Khan.
Wasim's variety would make him my first selection. No paceman had more creative genius who could extract life and movement from the deadest of wickets with his supreme mastery of craft and wizardry of a magician.Malcolm Marshall was Akram's right-arm equivalent while Andy Roberts was epitome of a craftsmanship posessing every weapon in his armoury.Imran was the epitome of agression and competitive spirit who could produce a combination of deadly pace and swing. All were effective wit the new and old ball.
Andy's 32 wickets in India in 1974-75 single-handedly spearheading the bowling attack,Marshal's record haul of 33 wickets in India in 1983-84 and the performance of Imran and Wasim on home turf where they have a staggering haul of scalps were the basis of my selection. Also took into consideration all-round skill combining pace ,movement, control and variety.
Kapil Dev just misses out inspite of outstanding performance against Pakistan and West Indies on placid sub-continent surfaces ,because he lacked genuine pace.Waqar Younus misses out by a whisker.Michael Holding was too injury -prone but at his best could well have been included if you remember his 30 wickets in India in 1983-84.Courtney Walsh almost made it as well.Dennis Lillee never proved himself in the sub-continent,otherwise he was a certainty for inclusion while Hadlee and Mcgrath did not posess the all-round skill or pace of Imran,Marshall,Wasim or Roberts.
