Will Mumbai Indians win a fifth IPL title?

Will Chennai Super Kings make up for last year's last ball defeat in the final?

Will Kolkata Knight Riders match their successes of 2012 and 2014?

Can Sunrisers Hyderabad add to its 2016 title?

Rajasthan Royals have not won the IPL since winning the inaugural title in 2008. Can 2020 be their next title?

And what about the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Kings XI Punjab and the Delhi Capitals who have never won the IPL? Could one of them be champion this year?

Lots of questions.

So vote in the poll and lets discuss.

I'd like to see a final between KKR and The Rajasthan Royals

Looking forward to watch Shubhman Gill more closely in KKR.

Supporting DC, but I think Chennai will win it. The conditions suit their game the most

I don’t watch IPL..follow it on cricinfo at times..so pls forgive me if I’m wrong but iirc Hyderabad’s team is no longer called DC.

With Ashwin's injury, its gonna be hard for DC. Mishra will most likely be replacement.

But I think this will be RCB's IPL. They will be playing outside India, no more matches on flat roads of Chinaswamy, a sigh of relief for their bowlers. They have a balanced side too.

Lol RCB are not winning the IPL.

No more flat roads ?

Pant was pathetic today looked worse than a slogger.

He always "looked" worse than a slogger though, yet that didn't stop him being among the most impactful players EVER in the IPL.

Yeah he was pathetic today for one match, so was Bumrah yesterday, could be Kohli tomorrow.

It is hard to predict which side will win as all sides have great players. No minnow team here.

I think Mumbai Indians or CSK may win again.

CSK/MI are not going to win this time. Definitely not SRH/RR. That leaves out 4 teams - KKR DC KXIP RCB. I predict KKR to win; They have had a very good team for the past few seasons, due this time around.

Bangalore, Delhi and Punjab have got good teams this time, they are in for a great chance.

This is the year of Punjab. Finally we have a team that should lift the cup.

Either the finals will be between Delhi and Punjab or else RCB will win the tournament.

India's next captain will be either Shreyas Iyer or KL Rahul.

Kohli would most likely want to captain India in 2023 WC and will continue in tests also. Don't think Rohit will get the chance to lead Indian team on a full-time basis.

The way IPL works however, it's all about getting to the playoffs. After that it's all about handling pressure on that one given night.

So many times, Mumbai, Chennai come from behind, as 4th entry in playoffs and they would still go on to lift the trophy because they are so good at winning when the pressure of knockouts is there.

I back Punjab to make it to playoffs, after that they will have to prove themselves under pressure.

Having watched multiple matches and all the teams - Mumbai has been the most impressive for sure. Delhi and Punjab look really solid as well. However, Calcutta’s depth is something else. They have the strongest middle order and some terrific bowlers to boot. Gill is easily the best young batsman on display. It’s their cup to lose.

Even if we don't win the tournament, we will certainly win hearts.

:salute

If RCB don't win this year with all of their stars, Virat Kholi would be the worst captain ever.

Why does BCCI not put highlights on YouTube like ECB, CA and PCB do for their respective leagues.

For casual T20 fans like me it is unlikely we will ever switch the tv on and get a subscription to watch a foreign t20 league we do not care about and which especially has no Pakistanis. However I think if it was on YouTube I’d certainly watch some highlights of amazing plays. For eg I’ve been hearing about KL Rahul century and some new guys 50 which I would’ve watched highlights of if there was an easy to access medium available.

I’ve watched bits of CPL, English and Aussie leagues over the years primarily due to recommendations on YouTube. BCCI should do similar for IPL. Wouldn’t it be a good revenue opportunity too since there could be ads and whatnot? Certainly the views would be million plus per match.

They post videos on their website for domestic and international matches and ipl site for IPL.

Oh didn’t know that. But even then just having a YouTube channel would give much bigger audience imo. And it would still be their channel. You can’t expect casual fans with no specific interest in a team or the league to go on other websites to watch highlights.

They aren't interested in casual fans, they want big money from the big TV networks

The market for cricket in India isn't the same as England or Aus. BCCI and STAR have sound commercial reasons not to let the IPL brand dilute by putting it on youtube.

Could you explain how it would be diluted lol? Especially when as per other poster highlights are available for free on a website anyway

Not on a website, but on *their* website. Why would they allow their content on a third party's website for ad revenue (lol) as you so hysterically mentioned when they can get all the traffic diverted to their website? It's not about free but where you get to watch it - that's where control on content and dilution comes in.

PCB might get there in a few years and you'd understand, maybe?

So are you saying IPL and BCCI have figured out something which Serie A, English premier league, the NFL, Major League Baseball, Australian cricket bord etc have not figured out?

Also they are not diverting ‘all’ the traffic to their own website. No one in my circle even knows about this website which I only found out on this thread. That will be the case for many casual fans. I probably don’t even come in the casual fam category since I do follow all international cricket atleast. So a big chunk is being missed out. Besides the ad revenue from YouTube would go to BCCI anyway.

Regardless the point stands. Did BCCI figure out something which no other league across all spectrum of sports and across the world hasn’t been able to figure out? BecUse these other leagues more or less do put highlights on YouTube for ad revenue. I’m sure there is some reasoning but I’m also sure you don’t seem to have much of an idea why but see it as a responsibility to be defender of BCCI lol.

Theh habe a good squad with a genius and a few stars but it's not a beast of a squad like some of the other teams out there.

Having said, they never win even when they did have a beast squad. It takes a proper team effort which they always lacked. Always about Gayle, ABD, Kohli this franchise. The most dominant IPL teams had players firing from any position any time.

Lol dude. First you were clueless about what brand dilution is and now you are back with more unhinged nonsense like ''oh but they are doing it at nba and whathaveyou so why not bcci''. I mean if that's the best you have then lol

Let me clue you in anyway. There are two parties with content rights, Hotstar and BCCI - but only hotstar can profit from the content. BCCI only has a limited fair use rights and nothing more. So you can see how misguided your claim about BCCI earning revenue is lmao.

More gyaan for you. Hotstar wouldn't even consider youtube for its piddly revenue income. They'd earn several times more making the content scarce and have the fans subscribe to their platform. That's their entire business model.

The model works for BCCI because they get fans on their website and it's almost - but one never knows - certain they'd keep the digital rights to themselves once Hotstar's rights expires. They'd launch their own OTT service and in the run up, they'd rather have fans watch highlights on their own website than a third party service like youtube.

Why are you so annoyed and getting your dhoti in a twist over a simple question lol which you never even answered properly anyway? :))

This explanation does make some sense about BCCI having limited use unlike ECB and CA or Serie A. And Well you could have given these explanations before rather than making stupid posts which gave no information and makes one wonder what you were babbling about in the first place.

Thanks for this explanation though. It somewhat answers my query. I don’t know about the revenue model and obv you are speculating but atleast from a global reach perspective there can be no argument YouTube would be better. Not many casual non indian fans would log onto BCCI website. But then again maybe that is not the priority which is fair enough.

LMAO

That's a pretty sophomoric attempt at projecting. We can all see whose lungi is firmly bunched up in knots lol

Still, I am glad you accept you have been schooled.

There’s nothing to be schooled about lol. You have a weird definition of that it seems :))

I just asked a question but it took you several attempts to come up with an answer that makes some sense. Messing up and blabbering on forums is fine but Perhaps work on that going forward because people like concise and to the point answers in the real world.

I think Rajasthan Royals may win this year's IPL.
If Stokes doesnt join them, then they have just 4 genuine batters. Very top heavy side, bowling heavily dependant on just Archer, cant bank upon such teams to pull off wins when they are not firing.

Rcb looking strong contenders this time around. Only finchs poor form and their death bowling might hamper them.

Pace attack is a problem as it relies on Saini. Batting and spin attack is solid.

It’s due to broadcasting rights hold by Hotstar. You get all the game highlights and match replay on Hotstar(YouTube is direct competitor to Hotstar in India)

It’s all business strategy by Hotstar to gain more subscribers
