Good chance we can win this, I reckon.

Pakistan may struggle to handle the pressure of what is effectively a knock out game

My money on SriLanka. At least a competitive match is guaranteed, if rain permits.

Heart says: Pakistan

Head says: Pakistan

No way we are losing this. Semis here we come.

:salute :salute :salute

Pakistan are favourites to win this game. The Pakistani pace trio will be too hot for Lanka Lions

Lanka will be missing Tharanga and Perera. Gunaratne was also holding his shoulder so he could be out too. Lanka's bowling is nothing to write home about either.

Pakistan are hot favourites for me

psychological Pakistan will feel they have beaten the better team!

It won't work that way. Rather, it'll work, but differently - it'll tell PAK players that they won't do worse than IND.

You don't know how the IND-PAK psychology works - it's not who good we are, rather how bad we are not. In 2000, IND had a Test tour in AUS after PAK & lost that series 3-0.

I heard at least in 6 different Indian channels - analysis on Indian prospect, on the day, team was flying. From Gavaskar to Wadekar (or Dulip) and in between Saba Karim, Shastri ... Shidhu ... for a 30 minutes program, the gist from everyone was -

"We can't do worse than Pakistan"

If IND loses, PAK players will play it like another match & they are better unit, so chances are higher.
If IND wins, SRL's chances increase by 50% at least.

I am starting to get the World T20 2009 vibes from this tournament.

Pakistan is too good a bowling team to allow their openers to manhandle them like they did today even if it's played on belter. Sl is a very inexperienced side and Pakistan should definitely win this one.

Ive seen that SL can chase a high total in the 300s. Haven't seen that with us yet, so for that reason its a toss up. Their bowling is pretty decent too and it helps that they have Mathews back.

I dont know. If we get people like Hafeez to stop batting terribly then maybe we might have a shot. Amir is overdue for some wicket taking performances. He's been doing great with economy and at least creating pressure for bowlers like Hasan to take wickets on the other end. I expect Babar to bat more confidently in this game too inshaAllah.

Again will depend on Pakistan's bowling. If Srilanka get 280-300 I can't back these batsmen to chase it down. We have only 1 method to succeeding so let us hope our bowlers can yet again put up a good performance.

I wasn't following cricket then, could you please elaborate?

We won the tournament after a jittery start, but found momentum at the right moment. Our first match of the tournament was a warm-up against India and we got thrashed. We lost to both England and Sri Lanka as well, but rallied at the right time and beat NZ to sneak into the semifinals, where we beat the tournament favorites - and the only unbeaten side - SA.

I personally feel we will beat SL on Monday and play England in the semifinals. However, England seems unflappable at the moment and I don't see them slipping up against us under the weight of expectations. Still, a fluke semifinal exit would be a great performance for this rubbish team, especially when you consider the fact that we were in the same group as India and SA.

Pakistan's weak batting, ie snail azar and dot ball hafeez will bottle up any chase over 260. That will be the difference between the two teams, unless fakar does something special. Srilanka are favorites by a long way. Look how their batsmen played intelligently and were confident against an overrated indian bowling attack.

If pak wins vs SL there is no fluke involved. We clearly throwed it away vs India and after dropping selfie and an injured wahab we atleast looked more like a team.

India got trashed badly today and our bowling was too good vs SA. the best bowling innings of the CT so far.

If we reach the semis we can upset Eng as well. Next week will be sunny and i hope it will be a dry wicket to aid reverse swing.

Then we will see......

Hafeez at 4 is a total waste but against SL you can expect him to come good. In fact our batting will fancy them.

We should be able to beat them. We really have a HUGE chance to reach the semis and improve our rankings.

Also reaching the last 4 of the CT will give a bit of the lost pride back to pak LOI cricket.

The win vs South Africa was a bit of a fluke. Not often would you see someone like Imad getting Amla out and de Villiers going for a duck. We played very good cricket but we had our fair share of luck.

Sri Lanka deserves to play semis. It is a more professional and spirited side that wants to win for its country, and the way they cut India to pieces today shows if they progress we are guaranteed to watch consistent team performances. Pakistan is the worst side to watch whether the fielding or its batsmen. If PAkistani bowlers do help PAkistan progress, the likes of Azhar Ali, Babar Azam and Hafeez will make it unbearable to watch. These Pakistani batsmen are just pathetic they will destroy the competitiveness and spirit with their dot ball cricket and selfish display. Its going to be an eye sore watch them, so no thanx Pak should'nt be there all probability it'll be washout with Lanka going thru and we viewers getting a much more exciting Champions trophy matches. Can't stand Azhar Ali, Hafeez, Azam and their batting, bad promotion for Champions trophy.

Thats cricket. He bowled well and they did got beaten by him. PAK bowling dominated 50 overs vs SA during their innings, so dont get your fluke theory.

We should fancy SL. and again once in the semis we can take on the Eng team. Im sure of that.

No we will be demolished by England it is exactly what we deserve. This is a mediocre team and it has punched above its weight already. Yes they should beat SL.

I think Pakistan have a great, great chance but we can't write off Sri Lanka

Do you even watch games or just come out and be the big internet warrior? Pakistan put on a superb bowling and FIELDING performance out there vs SA.

SL has a pop gun bowling attack which we can expose. We should stay focussed and a semi final berth will mean a lot.

If Fakhar fires and Faheem is in the playing XI, I'd say we have 85% chance of winning... Selectors should look to debut Faheem, SL is a less pressure side than india and SA..... if they don't want to debut Faheem against EVEN SL, WHY did they even include him in the squad for CT? Faheem DESERVES a chance after winning us a warm up against BANGLADESH!!! in the most CRAZIEST way possible!!! Just tell Faheem to play Sri Lanka bowlers like Bangladesh, and he should fire.. no problem.... also they should drop Azhar and move Hafeez to opening, and Sarfraz to 4, and Faheem to Sarfraz's old batting position—number 7..

Like i said we will se if we reach the semis what Eng will do to us.

Lets wait and watch.

very well said!

Pakistan has a better chance. Kushal Perera got injured, and seems like he is out of the tournament, Tharanga is suspended, Kapugedara is injured, Mathews and Gunawardene also had some injury problem on the field.

I think Pakistan has a strong chance here. I am being completely unbiased here and these are the reasons I think Pakistan has a strong chance:

1) Srilanka's strength is their batting which I guess will be well controlled by our bowling taking into account the way they performed against South Africa.
2) Srilanka has recently struggled against Tahir a lot and if Shadab plays he can be very lethal against Srilanka whole Srilanka hasnt played Imad a lot which is a tricky customer against anyone who has never played him.
3) Pakistan batting is slightly weak but very mediocre bowling line up of Srilanka will give us a good chance whether we post a total or chase it.

do you ever say anything positive about Pakistan?

Is there anything good of current Pakistan team. You have to read all my posts regarding to pak's 90s era and that time's teams when i was die hard fan of pak's legends and my all time favourite cricketer guru wasim.

I'm not at all nervous about this game.

When it comes to SL, Pakistan has some sort of a mental advantage. Similar to vs. SA!

Pakistan is winning it.

It could be Pakistan... but if SL chase they hav a slightly better chance becoz of better and quality hitters but then PAK's death biwling was excellent last night....
I reckon team chasing would win...

SL bowling is a joke. But batting is very very promising. Had an idea about it even before India game. But they surprised even more being excellent. Pakistan shouldn't take SL lightly especially if its a flat pancake being served. On bowling friendly conditions Pakistan is favourite.

Pakistan should win because of their bowling which can handle Lankans batting and the bowling of lankans isnt special .Pakistani batsmen will do good

Murali got 800 test wickets, how many wickets are fluke? Your comments always did not make sense, batsman is there to make runs and bowler is their to take wickets and Inshallah we will beat all over rated teams in CT:yk3

Yes these promising youngsters Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman Hassan Ali and Shadab Khan. Many more to come.
We were no 1 in tests some time ago (although for small period but we still were so deal with it).

Currently ranked 3 in T20s.

ODIs have been bit of an issue but we are soon going to be 6.

So much more to like than many other teams of the world.

If Pakistan loses the toss and is made to chase, Pakistan will certainly lose.

Pakistan is the only team whose winning and losing depends on the toss.

Good?
Ok we have a batsman who averages 50 plus in ODI cricket more than Inzi,Saeed and Salim Malik something you will not find in BD for atleast 2 decades
We have a world class pacer in Amir and an electric leggie in Shadab

Sorry but the current Pak squad can thrash SL,BD,WI anywhere in the world

Babar averages 53 even though it is not a huge sample

depends on the pitch honestly, if we get a flat track and srilanka definitely has upper hand, they have good batting

if the pitch is the one in previous pak game, pak will have upper hand

Babar averages 53 even though it is not a huge sample

A batmsan who averages 50 plus after touring Australia,NZ,England,WI etc is good enough for me
Bit I do agree with you he needs moee time hope he doesn't turn out to be another akmal

Pakistan need to bowl first.

All of our three ODI wins against strong sides in last year have come while bowling first.

If we bat first, we will more likely end up with a 220-260 sort of total. Since the par score these days is 300+, other teams while batting first target that score. So that hypothetical target is greater than what we could give them if we bat first.

Need to get the combination right though by opening with Hafeez (who is not going to get dropped) and replacing Faheem in place of Azhar.

Sri Lanka to win if they're chasing. Whatever total Pak might post (which won't be too much, let's be honest) would be chased down by the Lankan batting line up. Our pace bowling barring Hassan is over rated. A lot would depend on whether our spinners Imad/Shadab/Hafeez would be able to tie SL down.

Lanka will be missing Tharanga and Perera. Gunaratne was also holding his shoulder so he could be out too. Lanka's bowling is nothing to write home about either.

Pakistan are hot favourites for me

Both Perera and Gunaratne haven't been confirmed as being out of that match yet. Let's wait. And I'm pretty sure Suranga Lakmal will end up taking a 5fer against Pakistan which will launch his career towards stardom. :))
