The upcoming Euros tournament next summer is going be absolutely fantastic, mostly because the traditional sides are so much weaker than they have been in recent memory.

The 2010 and 2014 WC champions Spain and Germany seem to be going through quite rough patches; Germany didn't even make it out of their 2018 World Cup group, despite their wealth of talent. They're going to want to prove themselves again to put things right (and an attack of Sane, Werner and Gnabry will be frightening). Spain are coming to the end of their golden generation, with the likes of Xavi, Iniesta, Villa, Casillas, Pique, Ramos, Diego Costa etc all declining or retiring. They're in the gap between 2 generations, and it's hard to see them doing well this tournament.

Teams such as England and current champions Portugal have a brilliant and exciting generation of young players coming through, it's going to be amazing watching those players come to blows with Europe's best and legendary players. #1 ranked team Belgium are of course consistently reliable as a force in international football, with players like De Bruyne, Hazard, Lukaku, Courtois all in the prime of their careers. The Netherlands are full of stars, young and experienced alike, and you can't discount a team with the likes of Van Dijk, Depay, De Jong, Van de Beek, de Ligt and more.

Current world champions France are of course the favourites to win, after they so easily steamrolled through all the teams in the 2018 World Cup with some of the most exciting talents in the world. Mbappe's going to be right at the top of the goal scoring charts this tournament once again.

This tournament really is going to be one of the most exciting Euros in a while, with the sheer number of exciting, unpredictable teams in the tournament. Who do you think will win? Vote in the poll above.

If England dont win it this time with all the resources they have, then that would reflect pretty badly on Southgate.

Joachim Low to leave Germany manager role after European Championships

Joachim Low will step down from his role as Germany manager after this summer's European Championships.

The 61-year-old has been in charge of his country's national team since replacing Jurgen Klinsmann in 2006.

He had a contract until the 2022 World Cup but approached the German Football Association (DFB) to end it early.

"I take this step very consciously, full of pride and enormous gratitude," said Low, who led his country to victory at the 2014 World Cup.

He added that "at the same time" he continues "to be very motivated when it comes to the upcoming European Championship tournament".

"I am proud because it is an honour for me to be involved and because I have been able to work with the best footballers in the country and support them in their development," said Low.

Following the World Cup success in Brazil, Low guided Germany to the semi-finals of Euro 2016 where they were beaten by hosts France.

He then came under pressure after his side went out at the group stage of the 2018 World Cup.

"I have great triumphs with them and painful defeats, but above all many wonderful and magical moments - not just winning the 2014 World Cup in Brazil," added Low.

"I am and will remain grateful to the DFB, which has always provided me and the team with an ideal working environment."

Germany are in Group F with France, Hungary and Portugal for this summer's European Championships, which will take place from 11 June to 11 July after being delayed by a year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

They open their campaign against France on 15 June at Allianz Arena in Munich.

DFB president Fritz Keller said: "The fact that he informed us about his decision at an early stage is very decent.

"He gives us the necessary time to name his successor."

IMO France is the clear favorite for the European Championship keeping in mind that the abundance of talent they have at their disposal.

France, but Portugal have got a really good chance of defending the championship.

Winner will come from the France , Germany, Portugal group, England will make the semis.

Portugal do have a good crop of players entering their prime now: Bruno, Bernardo, Joao Felix, Ruben Dias, Cancelo, Jota, Neves, Semedo, Neto.

However, while I think they're all great players, I don't think the majority are at the elite level of some of the French players like Varane, Mbappe, Griezmann, Pogba, Matuidi, Umtiti.

Germany also have a good chance with the dominance of Bayern

I hope we are allowed to attend the matches, looking forward to being at Wembley for few matches.

England have a good chance , excellent players but Southgate is a poor manager.

France are favourites imo.

France for me, although Portugal will run them close.

Euro 2020: Eight venues will have spectators watching games, says Uefa

Uefa has confirmed that eight of the 12 host cities for this summer's Euro 2020 will have spectators attending games.

The four remaining cities - Munich, Rome, Bilbao and Dublin - have until 19 April to provide additional information on their plans before final decisions are made whether they can host matches.

The tournament, delayed a year because of the coronavirus pandemic, will take place between 11 June and 11 July.

Host associations had been asked to submit plans to accept fans by 7 April.

London, Glasgow, Dublin, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, St Petersburg, Bilbao, Munich, Budapest, Baku, Rome and Bucharest are all due to host matches.

Budapest is aiming to host spectators at full capacity, while Baku and St Petersburg have confirmed a 50% capacity, although the Russian city is hoping to increase that figure.

Hungary, Azerbaijan and Russia are the only nations that are planning exemptions from entry restrictions and requirements. Ticket holders travelling to these countries may be able to avoid entry bans or quarantine requirements.

Amsterdam, Bucharest, Copenhagen and Glasgow have confirmed a minimum capacity of between 25%-33%, although that figure could yet rise for the venues in the Netherlands, Romania and Denmark.

The Football Association expects 25% of Wembley to be full for its three group matches and one last-16 game, and is hoping to have more fans for both semi-finals and the final.

"Uefa wishes to express its appreciation to its member associations and the national and local authorities who are collaborating closely in ensuring the safe return of spectators to the stadium," said a Uefa statement.

Here, BBC Sport looks at each country's preparations.

England have the squad to get to the semis/final. But Portugal and France look like the stand out teams .

England - One of the favourites for UEFA Euro 2021?

Football has been my passion no. 1 when it comes to sports, for about 35 years now. I lost a bit of interest when I have to give up my playing career because of an injury and moreover when Leeds were relegated I barely watched and PL football.

Now when Leeds are back in the big company again, my interest have returned :), especially when we probably will have Calvin-Phillips in the squad.

There are many great nations in Euro 2021, you can never write off Germany no matter what, and you have Belgium, France, Spain and Portugal also among favourites.

I really rate Denmark as well, but I think if England can handle the preassure they have a great chance this time.

England have decent defenders but what impresses me most are the attacking players and Southgate will have a real headache selecting the correct eleven;

Grealish, Foden, Mount, Rashford, Kane, Saka, Calvert-Lewin, Watkins and Sacnho are all good players and there are also a few others I haven't metnioned here.

Really looking forward to this contest.

England have a decent squad which is overly hyped, when they come up against any country in the top 5/10 they are always exposed. Southgate also is clueless and picks players based on reputation rather than anything else it seems. They will probably make the semis at most and crash out in disappointment.

Italy have a better chance than England. Heck even Turkey might pull upset and a make deep run, England however are perpetual chokers - I don't ever see them winning a title and that's mainly cause their media overhypes them and then their players buy that hype and either bottle under pressure or they take it easy and don't respect their opponents.

Not seeing it. They will run into someone good like Belgium or Germany and get KO’d.

England have the players to get to the final rounds of the tournament and to win it. The question is whether Gareth Southgate will manage these resources, pick the right 11 and formation for England to be successful. Since 2018 WC he has not always got things right and seems to be reluctant to be attacking. This needs to change for England to win the tournament.

Bold decision by Luiz Enrique to drop Sergio Ramos from Spain’s Euro squad.

If England win their group, they will have to play the runner up In the group of death which consists Germany France portugal

France should win this tournament pretty easily. Last time they were unlucky as well but this time they have much better & much more experienced players who also have won the WC about 3 years ago.

Euro 2020: Tournament a failure if England don't reach semis - Southgate

England manager Gareth Southgate says failing to reach the semi-finals at Euro 2020 will be classed as a failure.

The Three Lions reached the last four of the 2018 World Cup and a run to the final would see them play all but one of their games at Wembley.

Asked if anything less than reaching the semi-finals would be deemed a failure, Southgate replied: "Yeah, it probably will.

"I think we're realistic about that, we have to live with that expectation."

And he added: "Are we ready to win? Well, we've been to two semi-finals so the next step is to try to go further."

Southgate named his 26-man squad for Euro 2020, which begins on 11 June, on Wednesday.

Former Middlesbrough manager Southgate was appointed in September 2016 and oversaw the side's best finish at a major tournament since 1990 as they reached the semi-finals in Russia in 2018.

They also reached the same stage of the Nations League a year later.

"We know the excitement around the team and it's great, we're now relevant," added Southgate.

England come up against World Cup finalists Croatia in their opening game, followed by a huge match against neighbours Scotland on 18 June, rounding off Group D against the Czech Republic on 22 June.

A forward group of Kane, Sancho, Foden, Grealish, Sterling, Mount, Rashford is as good as anyone else's, except perhaps France.

Doesnt matter, there will be big brain farts as always by england.

Sterling will be selected over Sancho
Henderson over Rice
Foden, Mount will be lucky if they get selected over Grelish

I think the winner will be an underdog, either Portugal again or Italy

I'm going for a suprise Italy win

I fancy the Azzurri this time round. They had a good qualifying campaign and are looking good without having any superstars. Four times world champs they should be on the list instead of "other". I have always had a soft spot for them:shafiq2

Engerland for me! It's this year or never!

Winner probably will come from France Germany Portugal group, but I like the look of Italy also, England are carrying to many burnt out and injured players.

It will be France and they will do it undefeatedly. The are miles better than any other national football team.

The 2 favourites are undoubtedly France and England. Spain are past their golden generation and Germany are a complete mess at the moment. They need to rebuild after Low leaves.

Harry Kane says England in better place now than when reaching World Cup semi-finals in 2018

Harry Kane insists England are in a better position heading into the European Championships than they were for their run to the 2018 World Cup semi-finals.

The Three Lions begin their Euro 2020 campaign against Group D rivals Croatia at Wembley on Sunday. The same opponents ended England's World Cup hopes three years ago but both squads have changed since.

Captain Kane, who won the Golden Boot in Russia, feels England are now better suited for tournament football having gained more experience for club and country since their agonising exit in Moscow.

"I'd say so," the Tottenham striker told the Official England Podcast when asked if the squad is stronger than in 2018. "We're probably in a better place.

"Going into that World Cup, we maybe weren't sure where we were as a team, but we performed really well and stepped up to the occasion.

"I feel like now we've had a bit more experience, players in the biggest games for their club and obviously players who have played in that World Cup have had that experience as well.

"I feel like we are in a good place. We know there is still a lot of hard work that goes into it. We don't just turn up and win the tournament.

"We haven't won a tournament as a country for a long, long time, so there needs to be a lot of good mentality along the whole way as it is a long, tough journey to get to the latter stages of a major tournament.

"Obviously there's a bit more pressure on us this year than there was going into that World Cup, so we just have to take it in our stride and look forward to the challenge."

England are never good in international tournaments and nothing is going to change this time around. Maybe the youngsters will provide some hope but the lack of experience in dealing with pressure will finish them in the semis.

France or Portugal.

Germany, at the senior level, i believe have lost their clutch mentality that they showed in tournaments back in the day. The quality and depth you associate with German football is still there but they have started choking too often. At the highest level, it's not talent alone but how well you can rise to the occassion. France is doing it and Portugal under CR7 have consistently been punching above their weight such is their mentality under a maniacal over achiever.

Not seeing it. They will run into someone good like Belgium or Germany and get KO’d.

Till then we are gonna enjoy the ride. England bring all that fun to a football tournament like no other nation lol

England will huff and puff as usual struggling to score goals. Kane will probably be the only threat coz I don't see many goals coming from midfield. They appear to be a rather boring and slow side.

France are the best probably but any one of 7 teams can win it.
France
Portugal
Belgium
England
Spain
Germany
Italy,- they are the dark horses.
England unfortunately have a cautious manager and a very difficult route

I agree. 26 games unbeaten and guys like bastoni and locatelli are very soon going to be picked up by the big boys

Rooting for the Dutch to throw a surprise. Depay to have a very good tournament.

I think I clicked on England accidentally.

Heart wants England but head says Germany..

France's ridiculous XI that faced Bulgaria a couple days ago:

Now that I see it on paper, I can't think of a country that could beat that XI. France are surely favourites.

I guess Rabiot might come in for Tolisso but Benzema coming back has taken there lineup on paper atleast to a whole new level.

Only a pragmatic side like Portugal stands a chance

France easily. They have by far the best side. Imagine a team of Benzema, Giroid, Mbappe, Greizemen, Pogba, Kante, Dembele, Varrane, Ben Yider, Pavard, just to name a few. Baring an absolute disaster, I think they should comfortably win the Euros.

I think England will win. Most of the games are at home, plus the final too if England get there.

The winner of England's group play one of France Portugal germany in the round of 16, to make it worse l don't think England have beaten Germany at Wembley for 30-40 years

Italy not too bad last night - let's see how the others fare.

Italy was great last night but I don't think they will reach the semis.

That first offside goal from Mbappe yesterday against Germany was just magical. The way he cut inside, faked and dummied to wriggle out a tiny window of the goal to aim for, then curled it in beautifully off the inside of the post. I felt cheated as a viewer when that was ruled out, but sadly it was the right call (even though he basically forfeited the advantage gained when he cut back).

Mbappe is the X-factor game changer that no other side has. At least 2 or 3 times every match, he’s going to do something unstoppably good. That elevates France above all the other nations.

Italy have now scored 30 goals since they last conceded. They are a serious proposition under Mancini, a joy to watch.

Italy top Group A with 3 wins. 7 goals scored, 0 conceded.

They are now unbeaten in 30 games, and have won their last 11 in a row without conceding a goal.

My comments on France did not age well at all :facepalm

What an amazing result, favourites are out so it’s anyone’s game now. Italy now become the favourites I guess.

Italy and Belgium are two teams that have looked quite on the money so far.

Germany is always lingering out there but you just don't know which way they will swing these days. They are capable of raining goals on any opposition but they are also capable of playing an absolute disasterous game from a defense point of view so not very reliable to go with.

Spain have turned the tables but i am not convinved yet they can get past above mentioned 3 teams.

What am i even saying, England is winning it. Its coming home :)))

Lol@ those who thought Portugal or France will win it. Portugal rely heavily on Ronaldo.

Eng have a good chance now.

Ahem, comfortably? They are too arrogant & cocky.

Its been an unpredictable tournament and a fun one, but who would have though the whole group of death would be out at this stage.

I like how all the countries in the list were colonizers

Then you wouldn't like if it were an Asian football competition.
Though I don't see what makes you mention this redundant fact

yeah they are. Mancini himself was a joy to watch in his playing days.

It ending in London could give England a huge boost. But I would still pick the winner from the other half, there's more big tournament pedigree with the Italians. More quality in the first teams of Belgum and Spain and more unity and fight in the Swiss.

I'm not going to pick England to win diddly squat until I see them do it.

Have England ever won anything in football, or are they always the also-rans like their cricket team?

1966 WC was the best ever. and they have come close on other occasions too n 68 and 96.
Could have been in Semifinal of 1986 too if not for the Hand of God and Maradona.
England have always been a powerhouse and among the top 5 in any World cup or Euro event.

were semi finalists in WC Italia 90, went out on infamous penalty shoot out against West Germany despite being the better side in the match.

Doesn't Norway have any clubs?

Doesn't Norway have any clubs?

Of course they do, but it has more to do with the lack of international quality of the Clubs, they are nowhere close. For obvious reasons as winter sports are more popular because of the climate here.

Italy will be too much for England in the final.
