Who will replace Yasir Shah in Tests for Pakistan?

In Amir, PCB saw a 10 year career in spite of losing 5 years. As we have seen, they are quite unkind to players who lack that utility, the likes of Ajmal, Butt, Asif, Kaneria etc. have not been given the Amir treatment. Let's see what they make of a 33 year old Yasir hoping to return to international cricket having not played for 4 yrs.

A leg spinner will be finished 99 % of times if he does not bowl in competitive cricket for 4 years. Especially when he is almost 30.

They need frequently bowling in competitive cricket.

If he is banned for 4 years than there are 99 % chances that hi career is over.

If he gets banned for 1 or 2 years than he can make comeback surely.

Had danish kaneria been banned for 5 years his ban would have been ending by now. :-) :-)

Asif will surprise everybody by playing test cricket for 2 , 3 years.

So you expecting Asif to take on spin bowling?

If we push it perhaps we could get 5 or 6 years out of him and plus Yasir would be fresh in that he wouldn't have been put under as much stress/strain as he would have at the international level. Misbah was a late bloomer and although you'd expect reflex etc to decline he was relatively fresh on the international scene given his lack of activity as an international cricketer but his fitness really helped to. But even 4 years is a long period and his services would be valued for that period providing he performs well

This year Pakistan plays test cricket only overseas. How about going for an all out pacce attack. Wahab, Amir, Junaid and Rahat should be your test bowling in England. If required use few overs from part timers like Azhar Ali to give a breather to your main bowlers.

Pakistan might not need his services this years because they will play mostly outside UAE.

I guess Shoaib Malik retirement from Test format is looking premature now. We are in desperate need of fine spinner for Test format especially now Pakistan bowling attack looks weak. This time i am fully support of bringing Amir back.

Mohammad Amir and Sohaib Malik should have selected for the Test series in England in spite of Malik's average in England. 3 fast bowlers, one specialist spinner [not good as Yasir Shah], and one part-time spinner [who has retired from Test format].

Disaster England summer Test is waiting to happen for Pakistan cricket.

If we find anyone who is capable to replace Yasir he will buy a massive hammer and hit himself with it to end his career.

I am taking our cricket as a seriously pathetic joke since past few days.

Leg spinner plays crucial role in England. Historical performance of Shane Warne and Danish Kaneria attest to that. Yasir Shah would have been perfect for English condition. Oh boy!

No leggie in pakistan ready for test cricket. Zafar gohar will have to step up now. Though not sure we should play 2 left arm spinners. I think for away tours imad can be included to strengthen batting plus 3 pace bowlers

The PCB should have ensured that Usman Qadir was playing regular First Class cricket. He has a great batting record in Australia and would have been a terrific number 8 in Tests in Australia and New Zealand. But you'll get Zafar Gohar instead, who is a poor man's Mitchell Santner.

Seriously, that's ridiculous stuff..Its been a case for quite a time with Pakistan cricket .They find a talent which stays for some time and then it gets wasted...

He is better than Mitchell Santner... Bowling wise...

Lets see, Pakistan cricket always has found a way to remain significant It will find some way again

Sorry mate, another nail in the coffin. We don't plan for the future, keep resting on our laurels. We saw squash and hockey decline but never learned. Cricket has been declining over the years. 90s was a glorious decade for us. Instead of developing the three sports as institutions as India is doing now; we were too busy celebrating.

In my opinion a leggie has more chance of taking wickets overseas than an offie.
Among the three leggies; Shahzaib, Usama and Karamat, Usama has the best control.

Nobody. Pakistan should go with pacers only and let Imad, Malik and Azhar bowl a bit of spin (maybe Hafeez when he is cleared).

Relax guys, one player does not make a test team. How many times have we been on the brink, only to somehow pull ourselves out of it? Yes, this is a blow but again Yasir is unproven on the road over the long haul although he has been a sher in his own ghar. Not quite the knockout punch when Amir and Asif got banned is it?

Zafar Gohar is the obvious replacement.

Thankfully, Usama Mir has been drafted by Karachi and he will be working alongside Mushy.

Usama has all the tools to be a success, just needed someone like Mushy to guide him and develop him as a leggie.

Can't believe Amir is returning (and potentially Asif), whilst Yasir is leaving.

Could have had a trio of WC bowlers like Amir, Asif and Yasir, plus adding Riaz to the mix would have made it the best attack in the world - hands down.

Na, Imad Wasim will join test squad i think. He will be very useful with the ball.

Usama Mir has 7 First Class wickets in 6 matches. You can't be serious!

Anyone who turns big will do well anywhere. Where 3-4 inch turners go abroad in unfamiliar conditions, their 3-4 inch turn becomes a 2 inch turner and they get whacked. It also helps if you are spinning away from majority of the batsmen.

Usama mir?? Oh please...sorry buy we have no replacement..we're done. I've been watching for thirty plus years and have never thought that..until today..we are done..kaput..head gasket is blown...enjoy the ride on the way down but in a few years when we are languishing like the windies we"ll look back at today..

Atleast WI has a good T20 team.

Short term, I see Babar or Rehman taking the reins solo and Pak relying on their pace attack. Most of our tours next year are in fast bowling conditions, and I don't think Zafar or Asghar will be thrown into the deep end so early in their career.

Disappointing we don't see a non-SLA coming through.

Should be looking for a SLA or leg spinner, I can't see off spinners being much of a threatl in NZ and Aus.

Who are the two spinners you would try in one-days and Tests?

In tests:-
1. Zafar gohar
2. Imad wasim
3. Shahzaib ahmed khan
In odi:-
1. Zahid Mehmood
2. Shahzaib Ahmed
3. Usama Mir
4. Muhammad Asgher
5. Nasir Awais
6. Kashif Bhatti
7. Bilal Asif
8. Karamat Ali
9. Usman Qadir
10. Muhammad Asif jr.

For me:-
In tests:-
Shahzaib and Zafar
in odi:-
Zafar and zahid
while in Pakistan A :-
Mohammad Asgher and Usama

In odis on NZ type pitches imad and malik is enough

In subcontinent a seamer can be replaced by zafar or usama (though hes a bit raw rn)

Zafar Gohar and Usama Mir.

Karamat has fallen a bit off the radar sadly.

Ahson I am a huge fan of Usama Mir but he has just played 1 list A game where he was wicket less and in 6 Fc games he has 7 wickets at an average of 51.

Asghar is way way ahead of Usama at the moment and almost equal with Zafar Gohar except the fact that zafar is a better batsman and fielder than Asghar. Asghar just took a ten wicket hall in last or second last FC game whereas Usama just has total 7 Fc wickets.

Asif can only get into reckoning if he gets selected for domestic list A games for Multan and impresses there.
Kakar b.lesner from last year's standings in odi tournament will Multan play this year's odi tournament or they got relegated ?

Haroon Rasheed should have drafted Mohammad Asif in Lahore or Rawalpindi's squad based upon Asif's brilliant last season.

Ideally we need a leggie to partner Zafar. Usama or Shahzaib are probably the better legspin options available as Karamat had fallen behind

Usama has lots of potential whereas shahzaib isn't good enough unfortunately . Can't turn his leggies.

Zafar gohar adil amin....imamul haq all decent spinners..plus usama Mir and ashgar

i think adil amin doesnt have that good technique but his ability to score and determination is amaizing , he should play continuously for pakistan A one day side , he is 1 for the future

Usama mir / Zafar

Usama has great control on ball and he delivers the best googlies, even better than yasir

Usama, Zafar and Aghar should all be in the national squad or A team and there should be a rotation policy for them.

Similarly the pacers in the national team and A squad should be Wahab, Amir, Irfan, Mir, Majid, Ammad, Abbas. There should be a rotation policy for them as well.

I'd like to see the stats comparison provided by those who disagree or advance anyone other than him, but I believe Zafar Gohar has the most outstanding First Class stats of any Pakistan spinner of all time

2 Potential replacements for next Test tour of Aus, Nz, Eng & SA are doing well.

Shadab 3-25

Asghar 3-15

Why fit again Usama Mir not in any side of Regional One Day Cup ?
