7 match T20I series starts from 20th September, and one could be forgiven based upon recent performances to think that England could further dent Pakistan's World T20 hopes with a resounding/embarrassing win.

So, will Pakistan recover from the loss to Sri Lanka and mount credible resistance to a fairly string (ok they may not be full strength) side which visits Pakistan?

You decide.

England’s LOI team has run out of steam, they have looked mediocre over the past 12 months. I think the 2016-2020 run is over, but it was a hell of a ride.

Pakistan on the other hand remains a rubbish team. Hard to call this one, but I hope England wins.

I won’t be watching though, this series is not worth my time.

Too early for this thread, the wounds of the final have to heal first. :(

The way Pak batted England are clearly favourites.

Even the 2nd eleven batting unit is phenomenal.

Unless Shan Masood & Haider Ali get a chance in the middle we are really going to suffer.

Like to see Zahid Mehmood the leggie tried in all the games he can’t be worse than Usman Q.

All in a wake up call for this Pak team after the 2 defeats to S Lanka

We need to make changes in the middle-order and we should be able to compete well.

This could get ugly and end with a 7-0 though, looking at the form of our batsmen.

Rest all the main fast bowlers and keep them fit, try out different batsmen with an eye on Australia.

Haris
Tayyab Tahir
Babar
Shan Masood
Haider Ali
Azam Khan
Shadab
Nawaz
Wasim Jnr
Rauf
Dahani

Imad Wasim replace Qadir
Husnain
Rizwan give chance to Haris
Kamran Ghullam

Rest Naseem

Remember this series will be played after the world cup squad is announced. So if Pakistan selectors have some sense, they will play a B side and rest players before the world cup. The likes of Azam Khan, Kamran Ghullam, Tayyab Thair, Agha Salman, Asif Afridi, Mohammed Haris, Arshad Iqbal & Hassan Ali should play in the England series even though none of them are likely to be named in the world cup squad.

Babar needs to play though to get back in form.

England will win it at a canter if we play the same side. Surely Khushdil, Nawaz, Fakhar and Asif Ali have to go at least for now. We need to revamp the middle order big time. Don't anyone mentioned Sharjeel back in the side.

Not England's strongest squad and Pakistan at home so it should be a close series.

I fancy England to narrowly win the series.

Buttler may not play all games - so as good a chance as any for Pakistan to win here.

5-2 to England with Pakistan winning couple of games when series already decided and Eng fielding their E team

1 win on the card due to resting of key players. 7-0 could get rid of Saqlain

Pakistan should win. Yes I know the final wound is still pretty raw. But England ain’t what they used to be and we’ll be at home.

Notice I said should win and not will win. Because we have a very moody team. One brain-**** and it’s all over.

Apparently PCB are going to reduce the size of the boundaries to ensure the RR increases in the PP overs.

Says it all really.🤣

I need to see the following:

Mohammed Wasim playing all 7 games to get into rhythm. Same with Dahani. Third seamer can alternate between Naseem, Rauf and Hasnain.

Shadab to be rested. Qadir and Abrar playing 4 games and 3 games respectively.

This way, Wasim comes in at 7 and has to bat with more responsibility. I want to see how he does in that scenario.

Haider at 3 or 4. Shan also given a go, but w/ clear instructions to attack.

Aamir Jamal given atleast three games.

Play either Khushdil/Ifti but not both.

Mohammed Haris given a couple of games as well.

:shadab Coach Saqlain said no room for experimentation. I expect following team will play all 7 games and lose the series 5-2 or 6-1

  1. Babar
  2. Rizwan
  3. Haider Ali
  4. Ifthikar
  5. Khusdil
  6. Asif Ali
  7. Nawaz
  8. Shadab
  9. Haris rauf
  10. Naseem Shah
  11. Hasnain

Well with their C team , they whitewashed Pakistan in ODIs, comparing that to 20-20s would be a cakewalk

Same as in 2021 , the most common thing here is weak middle order continues with Wasim the PPT selector

Asif Ali , lol simply no clue how he gets selected, poor PSL, poor CPL, 45 matches avg 15 , SR is 136 , 0 fifties , last 3 three years in 25 games he played avg 11 SR 134

Shan Masood speaking to the press:

"Playing county cricket has given me a lot of exposure to be honest,"

"I would like to thank Derbyshire and especially Mickey Arthur for believing in me and helping me out"

"I am really excited and hopeful for a good return. It's always a pleasure to represent Pakistan and performing is the second important thing"

"I am not thinking about my batting number. I am happy to play at any number and perform for my team. I am waiting for my turn and pay back the expectations people have from me"

Dawid Malan speaking in presser

"It was great to play in the PSL as it provided me with an opportunity to explore what I can do moving forward in my career. Obviously, it was a stepping stone in my T20I career," said Malan while thanking Zalmi and United for this great opportunity.

"Pakistan has always welcomed us with open arms. It is fantastic to be back here and can't wait to see crowd in the stadium"

"Pakistan has always been a tough opponent. We always get challenge while playing against them"

"The players with us have played in PSL, so we will try to share our experience of playing in these conditions"

"Buttler has always been phenomenal for us, especially during last couple of years when he was promoted up in the batting order"

"His absence must be felt but I think it's a good chance for other players to step up and fill in the space"

If Pakistan go at 11 runs an over

England will go at 15

Possible scenario:

England score 250 from 20 overs.

Babar + Rizwan scoring run ball half centuries with the team 100/0 after 15 overs, leaving the required run rate in the last 5 overs of 30 runs per over.

Middle order collapse. Pakistan get bowled out for 130.

Response from most posters on here:

"Asif Ali and middle order are brainless and need to be dropped". Meanwhile no words mentioned about Babar and Rizwan's innings.

The 90s mindset isn't just prevalent with Pakistan's ex-players/coaches but also with the fans.

Muhammad Wasim has to be given a chance. He has massive potential.

It isn't about the result for me.

I hope Haider gets to play all 7 games and up the order (3 or 4).

Dahani should get atleast 4-5.

Aamer Jamaal should also get 3-4 games in place of Khushdil/Asif.

Knowing the TM, they will play the Asia Cup team for 6 games straight before giving 1 game to the bench.

Thankfully Hasan Ali isn't in the squad or Babar wouldve surely played him in half the games.

Best combo to best eng

Mohd Rizwan
Babar Azam
Shan Masood
Haider Ali
Asif Ali
Kushdil Shah
Shadab Khan
Mohd Nawaz
Mohd Wasim/Shahnawaz Dahani/Hasnain
Haris Rauf
Naseem Shah

More on Malan from his presser:

“I don’t think at that time anyone of us thought how important it would be for Pakistan cricket"

“It’s a special moment for myself and for others who were there and it is great to see cricket back in Pakistan.”

“To lose him is not ideal,” Malan said of Buttler. “But it gives an opportunity to other people, gives an opportunity to Moeen.

“Ultimately, it is important to make sure that the players who aren’t quite ready. It gives an opportunity to build towards the World Cup.”

A lot depends on Babar's performances. I personally don't believe he is out of form. He was timing the ball very well. I believe it was just one of those unlucky tournaments where it doesnt click for you.

I think it will be tough to break into the xi Shaheen,Naseem and Rauf look like the preferred attack for Pakistan.

If an injury occurs than Waseem surely has to be before the terrible Hasan Ali.

Usually I am worried about Pakistan's chances, as I was in Asia Cup, but in this series, I am tipping them for a win.

England recently lost to India, who are a team in bad form.

So Pakistan are favorites

England tour Pakistan for the first time since 2005 ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia - with injuries and poor form resulting in call-ups for some new names.

Opener Jason Roy has been left out after struggling for runs all summer, averaging 12.66, while Chris Jordan (finger) and Liam Livingstone (ankle) will not feature in Pakistan.

Captain Jos Buttler has been included in the squad for Pakistan but is recovering from a calf injury and is expected to only play during the latter part of the tour, with Moeen Ali leading the side.

This has given the opportunity for five uncapped players to get their first taste of international T20 cricket. Kent batter Jordan Cox, Middlesex seamer Tom Helm, Surrey batter Will Jacks, Warwickshire quick Olly Stone and Lancashire left-arm seamer Luke Wood are all included in the 19-player squad.

England squad for T20 tour of Pakistan
Jos Buttler (Lancashire) Captain, Moeen Ali (Worcestershire) Vice-Captain, Harry Brook (Yorkshire), Jordan Cox (Kent), Sam Curran (Surrey), Ben Duckett (Nottinghamshire), Liam Dawson (Hampshire), Richard Gleeson (Lancashire), Tom Helm (Middlesex), Will Jacks (Surrey), Dawid Malan (Yorkshire), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire), Phil Salt (Lancashire), Olly Stone (Warwickshire), Reece Topley (Surrey), David Willey (Yorkshire), Chris Woakes (Warwickshire), Luke Wood (Lancashire), Mark Wood (Durham)

None of the uncapped players are in the squad for the World Cup, but Buttler and new head coach Matthew Mott will look use the Pakistan tour as an opportunity to see some of the stars of the future.

Sky Sports looks at just who the new players are.

Jordan Cox

Since joining Kent at the age of 10, Cox has gone on to become a key player for the side, helping them win their first trophy in a generation in the T20 Blast final in 2021.

Now 21, Cox came in at 74-4 in the 12th over of that final, first stemming the flow of wickets with 20 from 17 balls.

However, in the latter half of his innings he scored a late flurry of boundaries to finish on 58 not out from 28 balls, becoming the youngest man to score a half-century in a Blast final and the second youngest to score one on Finals Day after Buttler.

He has also impressed with his athleticism in the field, including a moment of magic in the same final.

Cox has also played eight matches for the Oval Invincibles in The Hundred, scoring 191 runs this season.

This included 39 from 30 against the London Spirit, 61 from 33 against the Trent Rockets, and 32 from 29 against the Birmingham Phoenix in losing efforts.

Cox also scored 48 from 29 balls in a three-wicket victory over the Northern Superchargers, and he made his first-class, List A and T20 debuts for Kent in 2019 and has become a key member of England's under-19 side, scoring centuries against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The youngster has also played grade cricket in Sydney and one game for Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash.

Since his debut for Kent, he has played 52 T20 matches, scoring 1,066 runs with an average of 31.35.

Tom Helm

Birmingham Phoenix's Tom Helm shows quick reactions to make a superb return catch and get their third wicket against Trent Rockets
With the likes of Jofra Archer, Saqib Mahmood, Matthew Fisher and Sam Curran injured, England will get the opportunity to look at some new seamers in Pakistan.

Among those is Helm, a pacy and strong quick, who is regarded as one of the most promising fast bowlers in England.

At the age of 18, he signed for Middlesex, making his first-class debut a year later, ending with figures of 5-78.

However, injuries have hampered his progress, having suffered from stress fractures and injury mishaps.

At the age of 28, he has been called up to England's first team after impressing with the Lions, taking 5-33 against Sri Lanka A in Colombo - the second best figures in 30 years.

He also played for Birmingham Phoenix during the Hundred this year, taking 13 wickets in eight matches.

Will Jacks

London Invincibles' Will Jacks slogged two straight sixes to bring up his hundred before securing a seven-wicket win over Southern Brave
Off the back of a half-century against London Spirit for the Oval Invincibles in the final of The Hundred, Jacks will hope he can showcase his big hitting in England colours.

Jacks was put on the radar in 2019, when he scored a century off just 24 balls in a T10 match.

The batter, who plays for Surrey, has impressed for England at youth level, scoring a ton against India in an under-19 Test in 2017 and as vice-captain during the under-19 World Cup in 2018, where he scored 102 against Canada.

Jacks, 23, impressed for Surrey during their County Championship-winning season in 2018, scoring his maiden county century against Gloucestershire at The Kia Oval in the One-Day Cup.

In July 2021, he scored English cricket's third-fastest T20 fifty from 15 balls against Middlesex and was among a host of uncapped players named in a replacement England ODI squad for the series against Pakistan after a Covid outbreak forced those originally selected into isolation.

But he was not selected during England's impressive 3-0 series victory.

A tall, clean-hitting batsman, Jacks has impressed since breaking through in 2019, most recently during The Hundred, where he has scored 261 runs, including the highest score in the tournament's history, a 108 from 48 balls.

Olly Stone

At the age of 28, Stone will have hoped to feature more regularly in England squads, but he has had an injury-plagued career.

However, when fit, he has regularly bowled some of the fastest spells in county cricket.

Back trouble affected the early part of his career, but Stone made his Test debut in 2019 against Ireland at Lord's.

He has taken 10 first-class wickets for England and a solitary wicket in his four international ODI appearances.

Despite the injuries, Stone, who has signed for Nottinghamshire from next season, is still regarded as one of the quickest bowlers in England and will hope he can put his fitness problems behind him in Pakistan.

Luke Wood

Called up to the England ODI squad against the Netherlands earlier this year, Wood has been around the set-up, but will be hoping to earn his first T20 cap in Pakistan.

Wood burst onto the scene in 2015 with Nottinghamshire, but found opportunities limited with competition from the likes of Stuart Broad, Jake Ball, Luke Fletcher and Harry Gurney.

He went out on loan twice, first to Worcestershire, featuring prominently in the T20 title success in 2018, making it back-to-back titles after helping the Outlaws lift the trophy the previous year.

He then moved to Northamptonshire, taking his maiden first-class five-wicket haul and scoring a half-century at Old Trafford against Lancashire.

Returning to Nottinghamshire in 2019, he took two wickets in his first over during a Vitality Blast match.

A left-arm swing bowler, Wood joined Lancashire at the end of the 2019 season after spending time in and out of the side at Nottinghamshire and this year he was drafted by the Trent Rockets for The Hundred.

4-3 Pakistan but our recent bilateral white ball record vs England is awful.

Eng is a different beast and Pakistan will play into their hands by adopting short boundaries and flat decks in ideal scenario the wickets should be low and slow with long boundaries But then Mo and Adil will also come in and a glance on both squad clearly gives Eng the upper hand
5-2 to Eng

Expect plenty of short stuff from the England quicks.

Obvious weakness in the Pakistan batters.

Tough call on this one - especially if Pakistan play like they did today!

If Mark Wood has his way, looks like a simple win for England!

It will be interesting to see if Mark Wood can play all next 4 matches, bowl as quick as he did yesterday and also stay injury-free. But England management knows how to handle the players and he will probably be rested in some matches.

Depends oh how pakistani batsmen negotiate short pitch balls.

When Pakistani bowlers attempt short pitch delieveries either they fly even over Rizwans reach for four or they are just waist-high and batsmen deal with them comfortably, whereas when Wood etc bowl short the ball just comes direct towards the helmet.

Pakistan hanging on by a whisker I feel. If Buttler comes back, England automatically become favourites.
