I might be wrong but this election seems to be the center of universal attraction - even for those who have nothing to do with the USA!

But why is that?

Why is anyone other than those who can vote in USA interested in the outcome of this presidential race?

Because US politics affect everyone.

For example, putative President Biden will put pressure on PM Johnson to protect the Anglo-Irish Good Friday Agreement as UK negotiates with EU.

Going forward, if Trump falls then the international populist right movement will be discouraged and we may see a more inclusive politics re-emerge in many nations.

This has something related to world economy, non US voters are more concerned about economical ups and down due to US election, they have bought shares, fonders invesments etc....:asif

Because the US President has a major impact on geo-politics all over the world, and in addition from India's perspective there are economy-based issues like H1B visas and trade tariffs.

Well, in Canada's case

"Living next to you is in some ways like sleeping with an elephant. No matter how friendly and even-tempered is the beast, if I can call it that, one is affected by every twitch and grunt," - Pierre Trudeau

I get that US has an effect but is it the case that THIS election is being followed a little more closely than previous ones?

The results are taking longer and so folks are staying tuned for longer. Plus, coronavirus means the world is largely indoors and there is not much else going on by way of sport or entertainment.

Kasam se.... 90% of Canada's population lives next to the border anyway. The rest of Canada is too cold for year long human habitat.

Speaking of cold its start of Nov and we have mid teens whether today in TO. Going to hit nice and sunny 17-18 over the weekend. Welcome global warming :uakmal

Apart from the fact the USA President has massive influence on world politics, the extra interest in Trump is due to:

1. Worldwide fame before he ran for President.
2. No.1 reality TV host in USA and entertainment king (The Apprentice).
3. Political underdog beats the establishment, against all odds.
4. Says it how he thinks it (what you see is what you get).
5. Least Warmongering President in living memory. Foreign policy. International peace.
6. His battles with the media.
7. (Personal favourite) - he riles the snowflakes worldwide and their reaction is priceless.

He is more entertainer than politician. Every Tweet, every post, every conference, every fight, every gaff - is worldwide breaking news.

He has 10s of Millions of followers in the USA, and 100s of Millions in the rest of the world. He is in the top 5 of every Social Media platform he posts on, and single handedly changed politics by embracing social media. His 1 tweet can change the direction of worldwide stock markets.

This makes him different. People are tired of the boring and gray scale politics. The pretenders. Tired of the government lying. Tired of the media spin. This is why Trump stands out; he shoots from the hip - directly to the public.

There will never be another USA President like Trump in our life time, and you better believe countless TV shows and movies are on the horizon - and of course, Trumpism. You will all miss him.

The Teflon Don.

:)

He is an entertainer. Entertainers should not be president. Has brought the country to its news. The economy, civil unrest , corona, women rights. He will be leaving office and leaving the country in a much worse poisition than he found it.

Was watching a YouTube analysis, the following countries will be happy and unhappy or be cautious for different reasons

Turkey - Unhappy as Biden views Erdogan as a dictator and is more sympathetic towards the opposition parties in Turkey. Erdogan made just one phone call to Trump after which the later withdrew forces from Turkey

Saudia Arabia - Biden will press the crown Prince on his human rights record and will ask him about that activist Jami. Saudi Arabia will also not be happy with the US returning to the Iran Nuclear deal

Iran: Delighted as Biden will now reinstate the US Iran Nuclear deal

Israel: Unhappy as Biden may not favor Israel plans to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Biden may also halt pressurizing the pressure on Arab states to recognize Israel. Biden may also want to revisit Trumps Middle East plan and make it more favourable to the Arabs. Very unhappy

Afghanistan - Biden may halt the withdrawal of US forces hence the Afghans will be unhappy as Biden is not going to favour Afghanistan over Pakistan either

Pakistan - Cautious because democrats have been much closer to India historically, will be unhappy about the US halting their withdrawal from Afghanistan. But Democrats drafted the Kerry Lugar bill which enabled Pakistan to get annual aid worth billions of dollars which the Trump administration stopped. Mixed

India - Mixed as Biden will open up H1B visa opportunities to Indians with reduced salary caps but is also likely to no longer bolster the Indians to counter the Chinese in the region. Biden is also likely to press India on its human rights violations in Kashmir. Kamila Harris will not necessarily favour India as much as is perceived as she is American first. Mixed

China - Extremely delighted as Biden has been an advocate of close relationships with the Chinese and he is also not going to have much objections to China's CPEC plans in Pakistan. Delighted

The US is almost universally agreed upon as both a superpower and as the leading global power. We should all be taking an interest in who is leading such a country. Would agree that the engagement has been at an all-time high this year.

This is the main reason.

When you have histoys biggest terrorist state with the most hi-tech weapons on your doorstep, you will keep an eye on them.

I dont think that Biden will be as friendly to China as it is made out to be, especially with a republican Senate. The die is now cast - many now acknowledge China as a currency & market manipulator. Plus extremely harmful to US jobs. China is the new Russia - Any outreach to China will be considered a weakening of US policies of not tolerating communist dictatorship. If Chinese & Pakistanis think Biden will go easy on China & hard on India, they will be mistaken.

I watch because it is a good indicator of where to invest, when Biden takes over his policies will push up the Australian dollar. Trump pushed the aus dollar down. Under Obama the Aus dollar reached parity with the $US but that all turned around when Trump took over.

Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. Greatest country in the world.

Last one was followed even more

Think its the soap opera which interests people but guess longer it goes on, people will lose interest.
