Has had a great IPL record of late but can't replicate this form for Team India. What could be the problem/reason?

He is done and probably should retire. At least from T20's.
Problem is, with him still playing ODI's and T20's, there is no chance to groom the next budding keeper batsman. When MSD finally decides to retire, we will have to carry inexperienced keepers and hope that they succeed.
I am not against MSD still playing ODI's. He still has some utility there. But he should not be playing T20 Internationals for India. He is not a smasher from the get go. He takes a lot of time to launch big shots and with him coming to bat around 16th or 17th over, there is no time or balls left to play himself in. Result is, he will look like a dud with the bat. Not his fault. He is no basher like a Jos Buttler.
MSD also has some arrogance in his batting. He thinks he can do the damage by playing till the last over. But often he wastes deliveries in trying to settle in and offers a simple catch. He plays hero ball. If he cliks, he will look like a superman. If not, he will look like a dud. With age, he is looking more and more like a dud.

How has he fared in ODIs in the last 2-3 years? Any stats?
Last 2 years, he averages 52.5 with a SR of 81.6.
Last 3 years, the average is 46 with a SR of 84.

Kohli needs Dhoni the captain.
He has not missed him one bit in Tests for the last two years! Dhoni will not be missed in shorter formats especially after his almost non-existent contributions in the last 3 years. Only pro-Dhoni media and Dhoni fanatics keep highlighting how Dhoni helps Kohli the captain. And Kohli, being the diplomat he is, has no choice but to show support to MSD publicly.
The moment the heat is turned on Kohli runs away to the farthest boundary on the ground, eats up all his nails in nervousness and starts hyperventilating. Kohli the batsman is a top notch and Dhoni is not contributing enough with the bat but Kohli the ODI captain cannot even hold a candle to Dhoni even at this age.
Without Dhoni's full-time on-field tutoring, Kohli might even let "the streak" get broken, which multiple captains across generations have kept intact.
Dont judge from his exploits on IPL pattas as all his international outings have been big disasters. I still think he is a hack and will get brutally exposed in the A team tour to England. If he performs well there, then we can think of including in the LOI team.Seeing the season Pant had in IPL, I am willing to compromise keeping a bit over great prospect for batting. Pant batting one down and Kohli at 4 will only strengthen middle order. Issue is that Rahul had such an amazing season, can't be ignored either. But he just has to sit out till Dhawan and Rohit goes out of form or injured.
MSD is not providing enough in lower order at all. He is probably great tactician and he will be dearly missed having his management skills for spinners, but his form has gone down so much, only lately he has shown some 'getting back to form', but he is not able to read spinners now. I hope BCCI selectors make a tough decision seeing his performance in England. He has to be excellent in order get considered for WC. Who knows MSD may announce retirement if they win IPL.
