Why does Waqar Younis talk so big on commentary when he was a failure during his coaching tenures?

when he is on commentary despite having the opportunity twice to coach the national side yet he failed miserably and is part of the problem that causes us to have 0 fans inside the stadium watching our game

when he had the opportunity to build a new side while we still had players to attack fans, he decided to go back and use TTFs and do more damage

He still was a Great bowler. That gives him the right to talk about the game.

Look everyone knows I wasn't a big fan of his coaching tenures but he is paid to provide commentary. He can't just be a deaf mute on air.

His insights on bowling is still good.

There are players that were not even half his stature who talk bigger. Sometimes I feel Wasim and Waqar don't sound as intelligent as experts compared to how intelligent they were as players

Did Waqar get any of his requests in his report granted? He wasn't great but it's not like he was the problem.

Well OP shahab you have 4000 odd posts talking about cricket when you might have barely played more than gully cricket yet an ATG bowler shouldn't have the right to comment on the game?

Yes seems about right.

Firstly. Very ironic especially when it is coming from a random poster on the Internet :)))

Anyways it's debatable whether Waqar is a failure as coach. He took us to the semi final of the World Cup a few months after the spot fixing scandal and after two World Cups where we had failed to even get out of the group stage.

Also he led us to the brink of #1 Ranked test side and had a great record as head of the test team.

Also he pointed out several things in his reports which were eventually implemented after he left so he was ahead of the curve

Lol its his job to speak in the com box. You cant expect him to act like a dumb doll in there.

Everybodys got a right to put their thoughts forward on the game players tactics etc And id say someone with around 800 intnl wickets has more than a random person off the street

Im not saying hes always right but he must be doing something right if someone is willing to pay him for his commentary

haha yes I agree. I heard he was talking about why Fawad Alam has been sidelined and he needs to make a comeback. Well then Mr. Waqar Why didn't you do it when you had quite a few opportunities?

Everyone gets so defensive about 'Oh Waqar was a great bowler, toe crushing yorkers, don't talk about him like that' well we are judging his pathetic coaching skills, not his bowling skills. Let's not even talk about him being mentioned in the Justice Qayyum report and how he had to return the car he got as a 'gift'.

You are on great form today!

waqars job is to provide commentary and thats what hea doing. The PCB is filled with politics and factions so what u want to implement might not be possible once u are coach.

Also despite Waqar's somewhat indifferent coaching tenures he is still one of the all time great fast bowlers and an ICC Hall of Famer. So as far as the game of cricket goes he is more qualified to give an opinion on it than a bunch of cricket fans on an internet forum that have never played amywhere near the level Waqar did.

I wouldn't be so harsh. But I can't find fault with anything said here.

Ouch!!!

OP hasn't said Waqar can't comment. What he is trying to say is Waqar is coming up with brilliant ideas that he never implemented whilst he was coach. For instance he was talking about Pakistan playing positive earlier, yet under him we played this same brand of cricket. So if he wants us to play positive why didn't he try to implement this himself?
