Why is Asad Shafiq given the golden boy treatment in ODIs?

Why the heck does Amin deserve to be picked?

Pick the guy who actually has been dominating the domestic circuit and deserves a debut.

But agree Asad has to go from LOI. Let him concentrate on tests, where he's doing good. Then maybe he might be able to make a comeback to the LOI scene later on. It's not like he's a youngster anyway, he's 27.

Comparing an All Rounder with a Pure Batsmen.

Hafeez's stats are perfect for a PURE all rounder.

Thats how pathetic Shafiq is, he has to be compared with an all rounder.
 
And look at Hafeez's average starting from 2010. Don't count it from before.

yaar shafiq is not impressing in ODI..... i was surprised to learn he has played 43 matches already and hafeez well mr blessed in all facets really isnt justifying his place... bats bad and bowling is not impressing..
 
Enough with this hack, clearly not fit for ODIs. Give Haris Sohail his game already
 
Need to show him the door and get harris in, the get out shot today was just pathetic
 
People are finally realizing how right I was when I said a long time ago(18 months) that Shafiq is a useless ODI batsman. Get rid of him.
 
Shafiq should stick to tests. Needs to be dropped from the ODI team. How many chances do they want to give him.

seriously this is terribly disgusting, for how long do they have to persist with Asad Shafiq and for what reason? Is there one valid reason why they are not dropping him???

There was a player in Zimbabwe called Dion Ebrahim, I don't know why but Shafiq in ODI's keeps reminding me of him, the guy was short, similar physique as Shafiq's and couldn't hit a six to save his life ... same is the case with Shafiq! Only Whatmore and Misbah can be genius enough to keep him in the team.
 
^^ ex-cricketers such as shoaib akhter rate him highly because he has good technique, the problem is he just doesnt know how to rotate the strike.

Hes not alone in that regard, misbah is a good batsman now, imagine if he could take more singles, he would be a match winner :kohli

Need people like inzamam to show these young players how to construct an innings and go about the chase, misbah is not showing them the ropes at all.
 
I have always been a supporter of Shafiq but he is loosing fans by the minute, he gets out playing the worst shots.

The issue is he is good against spin bowling but they way out batting is he is usually coming it way to early to face the quicks.
 
Hasn't exactly set the world on fire has he. However I think he should be given one more series at the most in ODI's.

Lolwa . His supporters keep crying that he should bat at 3 and you are saying he comes in too early and fails against the quicks. The guy is an excuse of an ODI batsman why can't we accept it :yk

I still think Asad would make a better number 3 than Hafeez but the invincible Hafeez is here for good measure.
 
asad seems to be a victim of the one match play rubbish drop system in the PCB, and it looks like its affecting him. Now we have a dilemma. We know he can play e.g. hundred in sa etc, but do we now drop him again, which will elad to more inconsistency or play him in one final match and say well you had three matches to prove yourself but failed?

The PCB should never have dropped some of our younger players because it causes the problems we are seeing with shafiq.

I would play him but at number 3 and drop hafeez to 6. Push akmal up the order too. sandwich misbah inbetween shafiq and akmal.

shafiqs trying my patience though, so much talent yet he's wasting it!
 
i would drop him now in ODI and give Amin 20 games and if Amin averages less then Asad then go to someone else.
 
needs to go back to domestic OD cricket and work on his game, needs to make some technical adjustments against fast bowling as well.
 
Was never convinced of him in ODIs since his debut. The fact that he has managed to play 43 ODIs and still doesn't average 30 says a LOT. He should stick to test cricket, just not good enough for ODIs. Haris and Amin need to be given a run now.

He has played 43 ODIs now and in many of them he has had enough time to build his innings and score big but failed to do so. Doesn't come across as a big scorer for ODI format. Needs to be shown the door. There are better batsmen waiting in the wings.

At some point 'technically' correct players get it right, Shafiq still hasn't shown any signs of improvement in this format therefore should be replaced. We need guys who can score at a SR of 80+ without having to take unnecessary risks and he simply isn't capable of that.
 
:shafiq is one a really poor batsman in ODI cricket, strike rate of 69 with an average of 27 after 43 ODIs is simply not good enough. Either he get out very cheaply or He starts too slow and when time comes to score quickly he gets out, because he can not hit boundaries to save his life.

Mohsin Khan (MHK) was on tv last night as a guest in Nauman Niaz's show. He said that in his capacity as Chief Selector, he gave Pakistan two Joe Roots. Asad Shafiq and Azhar Ali. Was ruing why they're in and out of the team so quickly. And he has a point.

I doubt Asad Shafiq has played 5 matches on the trot since last year. A solitary ODI against South Africa, was dropped against them in the CT, dropped after two ODIs in WI and the list only prolongs as we go further back.

I was all for excluding him after the 2nd ODI but a bit of deliberation says that he was treated unfairly. The team management has only 'managed' to shatter his confidence imo.

Need to ask selectors on what basis was he selected? Surely someone else should be given a go now? An avg of 27 and a SR <70. Just isnt good for enough for middle/lower order batsman these days.
 
Another awesome selection from PCB.

he had a good ODI series against Zimbabwe where he piled up runs with a good strike, and also has a massive total of 189 from his last 10 innings . truly deserving recall to ODI team.
 
Asad Shafiq should bat not play odi cricket. he is okay in test matches.. but odi he do not have the shots..
 
Selection for every format shud be according to the player's domestic record in that format! There are some talents averaging above 40 in list-A.. they shud have been given a go... Khurram Manzoor shud have been selected in ODIs as well... Fawad Alam again missing!! Asad Shafiq is becoming another Faisal Iqbal in ODIs!

He hasn't even looked good in tests and in ODI's he is downright awful :afridi
 
Unfortunately with Shafiq in the squad and Sarfaraz also there as a WK, I cant see Umar Akmal playing.

If Umar Akmal doesn't play then I challenge the detractors to come here and say Misbah has nothing against him

Shafiq should not be in LOI teams, should only be selected for tests.
 
Shafiq continues to fail in ODI cricket but yet is in the team, yet guys like Harris Sohail and Fawad Alam keep on getting dropped for no reason

Azhar and Asad are Joe Roots? The guy averages 39 with SR 82 for God sakes he has lost it if he thinks those two can match his average and SR. This is on par with Shehzad and Tendulker comparison :)))

3 is the one position he has hope, so lets see how it pans out. I agree though maqsood should have been selected. Especially given the entire batting line up bar akmal are tuk tuk

Shafiq averaged over 100 in LA cricket this year in the domestic circuit.

Maqsood should have been played today, but maybe Shafiq's run in the Test series made the management and Misbah to change their mind.
 
always believed Shafiq is skillful enough to be playing odi cricket but his brain needs to be programmed for it and this is where coaches and seniors have a role to play - He looks confused at the crease and can't decide how he should approach the bowler. He plays the new ball well, punishes bad balls, can attack spinners, can rotate strike, never goes for crazy shots what else do you want. I think he should be persisted with and given confidence

At 28 you are either good or you are not. There is no room for confusion at this age.
 
He is Misbah's golden child and also for selectors.He was selected in T20 WC for no reason and warmed the bench I dont like this player
 
Amazingly he played here where we chased 248... Came at 4 and made 9 runs before pattinson bowled him. Hope he does much better today.
 
I think he is the only true quality from young Pak batsmen I have seen. Needs more time in international cricket.
 
somehow he only scores runs in ODIs when he is batting @ #3.
Pakistan should find better ODI player than him.
 
I wanted Maqsood to play today instead of Shafiq.

I know people arent criticising Shafiq because this was his first game of the series but its not like he is a new batsman.

We have seen enough of Shafiq in the past to know that he is not a ODI batsman.

Is he the next YK of ODI cricket?
 
I can't blame him, he will never be better than his 27 average. The real culprits are team management, biased media and blind fans, all of whom called for his inclusion.

The same rule applies to tests. He has a mediocre FC average which he steadily progresses towards each time he doesn't play in UAE or SL.
 
Anybody figure out why he scores runs only at #3?

At #1: 2 innings, 10.00 average
At #2: 2 innings, 16.50 average
At #3: 17 innings, 37.85 average
At #4: 16 innings, 27.56 average
At #5: 5 innings, 10.20 average
At #7: 1 innings, 19.00 average

what is the significance of 3 in his life? Was he born on 3rd day of month? Is he 3rd born child of his parents? Was he used to come #3 in his class in school? what is it?
 
He's an aggregator so either play him at 3 or drop him from the ODIs.
 
Test batsmen. I just dont think he is ODI material. He should stick to tests and try to make a legacy over there.
