Manchester City's Erling Haaland has become the first player to win the Premier League player and young player of the year awards in the same season.

The 22-year-old striker's 36 goals have seen him break the Premier League record for most goals in a season.

Overall, he has scored 52 goals during the campaign.

"I am honoured to have become the first player to win both awards in the same season - thank you to everyone who voted for me," said Haaland.

Haaland, who received the most combined votes from the public and a Premier League panel, joined City from Borussia Dortmund last summer and has helped the club win a third successive top-flight title.

He has already been named the Football Writers' Association (FWA) men's footballer of the year.

"It has been an incredible first season in the Premier League and lifting the trophy last weekend in front of our fans at the Etihad was a very special moment for me," added the Norway international.

City are also on course for the Treble as they will face Manchester United in the FA Cup final on 3 June before playing Inter Milan in the Champions League final on 10 June.

"These awards would not have been possible without my amazing team-mates, the manager and all of the staff at the club who help me perform on the pitch," said Haaland.

"Now we have two more finals to go and we want to finish the season strong."

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland says he "will do everything" to help the club to a historic Treble.

City have won this season's Premier League and can add to that if they beat Manchester United in the FA Cup final on Saturday and Inter Milan in the Champions League final on 10 June.

United won each of those trophies in 1999 and are the only English club to have done such a Treble.

"It would be unreal to make this history," said 22-year-old Haaland.

Despite City's domestic dominance, they are yet to win the Champions League and Haaland hopes he can be the missing piece to secure success in European football's biggest tournament.

"This is why they bought me of course, to get this, we don't have to hide that," Haaland told BBC sports editor Dan Roan.

"It would mean everything. I will do everything I possibly can to try to make it happen. It's my biggest dream and hopefully dreams do come true."

He added: "But as well it's not easy - it's two finals against two good teams that will do everything they can to try to destroy that.

"They will be motivated, they will be ready and we have to play at our best, because if we play at our best we have a really good chance of achieving exactly that."

City overtook Arsenal this season to win a third Premier League title in a row under manager Pep Guardiola.

"We've been chasing the whole season so when we won the Premier League it was a big relief," said Haaland, who scored 36 top-flight goals this season.

"Now we've got two finals left and now the only thing we can focus on is these two finals before the vacation."

'I'm 196cm tall and have got long blonde hair - people are going to see me'

Haaland has had a stunning first season in English football since joining City from Borussia Dortmund last summer.

He has broken the Premier League record for most goals in a season with his tally and, overall, has scored 52 goals during the campaign.

The Norway international has been named the Football Writers' Association (FWA) men's footballer of the year and is the first player to win the Premier League player and young player of the year awards in the same season.

Haaland's exploits have made him one of the most recognisable players in the game and he says his way of dealing with the fame is to embrace it.

"It's nice, it means I've done something right," said Haaland.

"My life has changed of course, I can't live so normally any more. That's how my life is, I can't complain.

"I try to enjoy every single moment of it and that's how it is.

"I'm 196cm tall and have got long blonde hair so wherever I go people are going to see me. So that's how my life is. What can I do?

"There's nothing I can do, that's my life. I just have to try to enjoy it as much as I can. Try to relax when I'm home with good people around me, that's really important. Just try to enjoy my life."

Haaland believes he has improved "a lot" this season but that he can get better "from my right foot to my left foot to my heading, from the build-up play - everything".

"I've been developing in a really positive way and that's really important for me because I'm still really young," he said.

"I'm 22, I've got a long career ahead of me and I still have to develop. That's also something I was thinking of over one year ago when I was thinking about my next move."

Haaland knows Manchester United will be "motivated" as they will not only want to beat their local rivals to add to their Carabao Cup success this season, but also stop City from matching their Treble.

"It will not be an easy game," said Haaland. "We have to play our game. We have to not think too much, we have to focus on ourselves and we have to play the game we should play.

"In the end we'll see. It's a 90-minute football game and the ones who do it best in these games can win."

He will be below expectations this season.

EPL is a totally different kettle of fish.

One of the greatest posts in history of PP.

Haaland after a ‘below expectations’ season because PL is a ‘totally different kettle of fish’:

52 goals and 9 assists in 53 matches
PL top scorer (most goals ever in a single season)
UCL top scorer
PL Player of the Season
PL Young Player of the Season
FWA Footballer of the Year

Yup my prediction was wrong.

At least I made my prediction before the start of the season and didn't change it multiple times mid season. :)

For the record, one of the greatest predictions on PP was by you - Pakistan will experience deflation after SS was installed as PM.

Anyway, if PP is around maybe you might make a prediction that turns out to be correct eventually, even if you do change it mid season.

36 minutes into the new season and he already has 2 goals.

What a machine this man is.

Manchester City's Erling Haaland has won the PFA men's players' player of the year award, with Arsenal's Bukayo Saka named young player of the year.

Norway forward Haaland, 23, scored 52 goals in all competitions in his debut season with Pep Guardiola's side.

Haaland beat team-mates Kevin de Bruyne and John Stones, Arsenal's Saka and Martin Odegaard and Tottenham's Harry Kane, now at Bayern Munich.

City won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League Treble last season.

"It's an honour to win this prestigious award," said Haaland. "To be recognised by your competitors is a great feeling and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me.

"It was an unforgettable season for the team and for me personally. Winning the Treble was something I never imagined, so to achieve that with such a special group of players was an amazing feeling.

"We created some incredible memories last season, but now we want to do the same again this year. We have started the season well and we need to keep going."

Our Norwegian goal-machine recorded 3 goals today🙂

This guy needs to be studied and tested, he's a freak of nature.

Erling Haaland has more Premier League goals this season (9) than this Man United XI have combined (8)

Erling Haaland took his Champions League goal tally to 39 in 34 games as Manchester City cruised into the last 16 with two games to spare by barely breaking sweat against Young Boys.

The Norwegian striker shrugged off the ankle injury that forced him off at half-time in Saturday's hammering of Bournemouth to clinically convert a 23rd-minute penalty after Sandro Lauper had fouled Matheus Nunes.

He then smashed home a second from the edge of the area six minutes after the restart, shortly before Lauper was sent off for a second booking following a foul on Nathan Ake.

In a bizarre exchange, Haaland had already handed his shirt over to Young Boys skipper Mohamed Ali Camara at the break when the Guinean asked for it as the players made their way to the tunnel.

He just can't stop scoring goals as he scored another brace today against Chelsea in a remarkable 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Congratulations to Haaland for becoming the fastest player to score 50 premier league goals.

Erling Haaland injury: Manchester City striker being assessed 'day by day'

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is being assessed "day by day" as he attempts to recover from a foot injury for the Club World Cup next week. Haaland, 23, has missed City's last two games and is unavailable for Saturday's home meeting with Crystal Palace.

City travel to Saudi Arabia after facing the Eagles and will face either Mexico's Club Leon or Japan's Urawa Red Diamonds in the semi-finals on tuesday. "I'm not worried. It's not a fracture, just stress," Pep Guardiola said. "He arrived today, he will see the doctors and then we will see. The doctors say we have to take it day by day or week by week and see how he feels.

"Hopefully, he can travel to Saudi, whether he can play the first game or the second, I don't know." Haaland is City's leading marksman with 19 goals across all competitions this season and he is the pace-setter in the Premier League scoring charts with 14 goals in 15 appearances. City are fourth in the Premier League, four points behind leaders Liverpool, after winning just one of their past five league fixtures.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is likely to be out until the end of January, manager Pep Guardiola says.

A foot injury has kept 23-year-old Haaland out since the defeat by Aston Villa on 6 December, although few details have been given.

It had been hoped City's top scorer would return for the Club World Cup in December but the injury has still not healed.

Erling Haaland's representatives advise him to seal Real Madrid transfer to dethrone Lionel Messi after seeing Man City superstar suffer Ballon d'Or and FIFA The Best heartbreak

Haaland won the treble last season with Manchester City, scoring an incredible 52 goals along the way, but his efforts still weren't enough to win the Ballon d'Or or The Best award. Lionel Messi scooped both prizes which has led Haaland's camp to think the striker needs to move to Real Madrid if he is to be crowned the best male player in the world, according to AS. The feeling is that a move to the Santiago Bernabeu would also be the next step in the striker's career and will offer far better opportunities of taking over from Messi and winning the Golden Ball in the future.

The precision In Kevin De Bruyne's assist, the confidence e in Erling Haaland's goal, the relief in Man City's celebrations

The undeniable duo, pure magic

Haaland's wait is over

Haaland's opening goal was his first for 419 minutes in the Premier League and ended his longest scoreless run in the competition, as well as his longest streak of unsuccessful shots - 17.

He had missed five league games and 10 in all competitions at the turn of the year while recovering from a stress fracture in his foot, but remained top of the scoring charts even before ending his mini-drought.

In his absence, City faltered at first but, since Christmas, they have begun to find their stride even without Haaland's goals. If he is back in the sort of form that saw him score 36 league goals last season, they will be even harder to stop.

De Bruyne's return from injury has also been a huge boost and he was the catalyst here after coming off the bench just before the hour mark.

The Belgian upped City's passing tempo and increased the pressure on Everton's tiring legs, punishing them at the end with the precise pass for his side's second goal.

Erling Haaland has refused to rule out a move from Manchester City despite stressing his happiness at the club.

The prolific Norwegian was linked with Real Madrid earlier this season and he did not dismiss the idea he may one day move at a press conference on Tuesday.

Showing an awareness of media operations, the 23-year-old even said this could be the main news line to come from his appearance in front of reporters to preview Wednesday’s Champions League clash against FC Copenhagen.

Erling Haaland names Arsenal ‘rival’ who would improve Man City if he swapped teams

Erling Haaland believes Arsenal 'rival' Martin Odegaard would improve Manchester City if he swapped teams in the summer.

Odegaard has made 141 appearances for the Gunners since moving to north London from Real Madrid, producing 33 goals and 23 assists in that time.

He is one of Mikel Arteta’s most important players and the 25-year-old midfielder was handed the captain’s armband in July 2022.

There is no suggestion Odegaard would move to the Etihad from the Emirates but that did not stop one reporter from asking Haaland about it on Thursday.

Quizzed if City would be a ‘better team’ with his Norway international teammate Odegaard in the side, Haaland said: ‘Yes, I think so.

‘There’s a good player, and a player that plays for our rivals.

‘He’s just signed a new contract, so it’s not a topic, but at City we have a lot of best players in the world.’

Haaland and Odegaard are currently on international duty for Norway, who are set for friendly fixtures against the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

After the international break, Haaland and Odegaard will come up against each other as City host Arsenal on March 31.

Pep Guardiola has described that showdown as a ‘final’ with both teams locked in a tense Premier League title race.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is a doubt for his side's FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea on Saturday.

Haaland was substituted late on during Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final defeat on penalties by Real Madrid.

City boss Pep Guardiola said after the game that the 23-year-old had asked to be taken off.

"We will see," said the Spaniard on Haaland's availability to face fellow Premier League side Chelsea at Wembley.

"It was a tough game, a lot of action, high intensity for both sides. Erling felt something, a muscular issue. That's why he told me he could not continue.

"The [doctor] said he had a little bit of niggles, a little problem, we will see how his evolution is in the next hours."

He just can't stop scoring goals. Another hat-trick for him today against Wolves and we are only in the first half of the match.

Slow season for Haaland? - Man City forward wins Golden Boot

"This is supposed to be a slow season for Erling Haaland and he's still top scorer," former Tottenham and England midfielder Jermaine Jenas told BBC Match of the Day earlier this month.

And now it's official.

Manchester City and Norway forward Haaland has won the 2023-24 Premier League Golden Boot awarded to the leading scorer in England's top flight.

Haaland finished the campaign on 27 goals, five more than nearest rival Cole Palmer, the Chelsea and England forward.

Having won the Golden Boot in his first season at City, Haaland is the first player to win the award outright in back-to-back seasons since Tottenham's Harry Kane.

England captain Kane scored 25 goals in 38 games in 2015-16 before following it up with 29 in 30 in 2016-17.

Haaland has scored almost one-third of Manchester City's Premier League goals since joining from Borussia Dortmund after completing a £51.2m transfer in June 2022.

After winning the league with 94 goals last season, City did so this season with 96.

Haaland, 23, has scored a remarkable 63 times in 66 league appearances.

It has not been totally straightforward for him over the past nine months, though. Despite his goals propelling City to a historic fourth successive league title, Haaland has had his critics this season, while he missed 10 league and cup games in December and January after fracturing his foot.

"All those Premier League strikers thought they had a chance for the Golden Boot and Haaland just went into overdrive," added Jenas.

'League Two stuff was total nonsense'

In April, former Manchester United captain Roy Keane, speaking on Sky Sports, said Haaland was "in front of goal, the best in the world, but for his general play, he's almost like a League Two player".

Keane was speaking after City's 0-0 home draw to Arsenal on 31 March left Pep Guardiola's side third in the table, three points behind leaders Liverpool with nine games to go.

Guardiola responded to Keane's comments by calling Haaland the "best striker in the world", while former Premier League striker Chris Sutton said: "The League Two stuff, the criticism of him for that, was total nonsense."

Sutton added: "He was brought in for a specific role. To degrade him and suggest he is a lower league player is total nonsense and unfair on Erling Haaland."

The draw with Arsenal left Haaland without a goal in five games for club and country but he finished the season with nine goals in seven league games.

"He had a dip in form that lasted about twelve and a half minutes," said former England captain Gary Lineker on MOTD.

"Everyone was saying 'he's not the same you know' and I thought 'yes he is, it'll happen, it'll change quickly'."

'Playground numbers'

Of Haaland's 27 Premier League goals, 25 were scored from inside the penalty area, four were headers and seven came from the penalty spot.

Excluding penalties, Haaland still finished leading scorer in the Premier League with 20 goals - one ahead of Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and City team-mate Phil Foden.

"All the best strikers in the history of the game - outside maybe Andy Cole - have taken penalties," former Manchester City and England forward Daniel Sturridge told Sky Sports.

"Haaland's numbers... that's stuff you do when you're at school. It's a goal a game. That's not what you do in the Premier League in your second season.

"We have to give him the utmost respect and credit for what he has done."

Seventeen of Haaland's 27 goals came in the second-half of matches, with 12 between minutes 61 and the final whistle.

Of players to score two or more goals in the Premier League this season, Haaland has averaged a goal every 26 touches he takes, 12 clear of any other player.

Haaland scored 20 Premier League goals with his left foot this season. It is only the third time a player has scored 20 or more left-footed goals in the league in a season. One of the previous two occasions was Haaland last season, who scored 23 on his stronger foot.

The Norwegian has averaged a goal every 85 minutes in his Premier League career to date.

He also averaged a goal every 95 minutes in the Premier League this season. Of players with five or more goals this season, only Aston Villa's Jhon Duran (92 minutes) had a better average.

He scored two Premier League hat-tricks in 2023-24, including four goals against Wolves on 4 May, and ended the season with 41 for club and country - including five against Luton in the FA Cup.

In addition to his goals, Haaland has provided a further five Premier League assists this season while Sturridge believes there is more bad news for City's title rivals in 2024-25.

"Haaland will only get better," he said.

'Like Messi or Ronaldo' – 'obsessed' Haaland 'ridiculous and rare'

Another game, another milestone for Erling Haaland, who keeps getting better and better.

The Norway striker marked his 100th Manchester City appearance with his 91st goal to help earn the Premier League champions an opening-game win at Chelsea.

With such an incredible record it is little wonder his manager Pep Guardiola paid him the ultimate compliment.

"These are the numbers of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo," he said. "They controlled the last decade and 15 years absolutely everything. In terms of numbers, it is that level.

"I don’t know how he does it but to score 91 goals in 100 games in this Premier League in this country is unbelievable."

Haaland's numbers since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in the summer 2022 make for stunning reading:

  • Haaland has scored 64 goals in 67 Premier League appearances. No player has scored more since his Premier League debut. Mohamed Salah has the next-most goals in that time with 38 in 71 games.
  • Haaland has the best minutes-per-goal ratio in Premier League history (minimum 20 goals). He has scored a goal every 85 minutes. Sergio Aguero has the next best record with a goal every 108 minutes.
  • In his first season at City, Haaland scored 52 goals in 53 games in all competitions, a record for a Manchester City player.
  • Haaland's 36 league goals in his first season took him past the longstanding joint records of Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole, who scored 34 each in the first three seasons of the Premier League - when teams played 42 games.
  • Haaland took just 48 games to score 50 Premier League goals, 17 games fewer than previous recordholder Cole.
  • This season Haaland could win his third consecutive Premier League Golden Boot. Thierry Henry was the last player to win three in a row in 2004.

Erling Haaland has perfect response to Marc Cucurella’s Euro 2024 chant as he makes him regret song after just 18 minutes

Marc Cucurella lived to regret his Euro 2024 jibe at Erling Haaland early into Chelsea's 2-0 defeat against Manchester City.

It took last season's Premier League top goalscorer just 18 minutes to open his account and get on the score sheet against the Blues at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

But fans' minds immediately jumped to Cucurella as Haaland he put the reigning Premier League champions 1-0 up.

Rewind to Spain's 2-1 win over England in the Euro 2024 final, Cucurella had a cheeky jibe at the Man City striker.

"Haaland you'd better tremble, Cucurella is coming," the Spaniard sang into a mic on stage at La Roja's celebrations.

Unfortunately for Cucurella, it was him who Haaland shook off with ease in Chelsea's box to fire City in front.

Speaking after the match, Haaland commented on the defender's chant, where he aimed a thinly-veiled swipe at the former Brighton man.

He said: "Well, Cucurella is a funny man. Last season he asked for my shirt.

"And this summer he sings a song about me."

While City eased to victory in west London, football fans loved seeing Haaland dominate Cucurella for his first of the campaign.

"Cucurella gets bullied and can't deal with Haaland letting him score, who's singing now! Some people write their own fate," one wrote on X.

"Football script writers are so predictable cause Haaland scoring a goal with Cucurella defending on him was the most obvious thing ever," a second joked.

A third said: "Turns out Haaland isn't trembling, Cucurella..."

Cucurella returned to Stamford Bridge following an impressive Euro 2024 campaign.

The left-back was named in this summer's Team of The Tournament, which also included England and Man City defender Kyle Walker.

Cucurella played six of Spain’s seven games, racking up the second-highest minutes of any of La Roja’s players (546), just behind goalkeeper Unai Simon (570).

He also set up the the winning goal for Mikel Oyarzabal in the final.

Meanwhile, Haaland has now been directly involved in 106 goals in 100 appearances for Man City.

His opener was his 91st goal for the club to go with his 15 assists.

Ex-Chelsea star Mateo Kovacic rubbed further salt in the wounds by doubling City's advantage in the closing stages to seal a 2-0 win.

Another one for him today against West Ham
====

It's back-to-back hat-tricks in the Premier League for Erling Haaland. He got three against Ipswich last Saturday in a 4-1 win and now he races on to Matheus Nunes' pass through and there's no doubt about what will happen next.

He lifts the finish past Lukasz Fabianski and that should do it for City, whose fans do the Poznan

Looks like he's back to his very best at moment. Probably end up with 45-50 goals this season

Great start for him this season, but I would love to see him getting these goals against Liverpool, Arsenal etc, the other top teams this season also

The Haaland family is mourning the death of Ivar Eggja, a 59-year-old family friend and confidant who significantly influenced Haaland's career and personal life. Known affectionately as "uncle" by Haaland, Eggja provided essential guidance and support during the striker's ascent to football stardom, and his passing has left Haaland deeply saddened.

Great start for him this season, but I would love to see him getting these goals against Liverpool, Arsenal etc, the other top teams this season also
Did you see? :rabada2

By scoring against Arsenal, Haaland also equalled Cristiano Ronaldo's record of the fastest player to score 100 goals for a club

Erling Haaland breaks iconic Newcastle star’s record as he hits double figures

Erling Haaland has made history by being the fastest player to reach ten Premier League goals in a season.

The Norwegian striker found the back of the net just nine minutes into the crunch title clash with Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, writing his name in the record books in the process.

In reaching ten goals, Haaland beat a record set by a Newcastle United legend.

Prior to his effort, it was Mick Quinn who held the record after taking six matches to reach ten Premier League goals back in 1992/93.

However, Haaland has now claimed that record for himself after a stunning start to the campaign.

City then lost Rodri to a worrying injury and were then pegged back on 22 minutes through a sumptuous left-footed strike from distance by Riccardo Calafiori, but this doesn't take anything away from Haaland's brilliance.

His effort against Arsenal also meant that he has already racked up 100 goals for Man City.

With the clash with Mikel Arteta's side being just his 105th for City, it means that the 24-year-old is agonisingly close to averaging a goal every game for Pep Guardiola's side.

The 24-year-old has equalled the time it took Cristiano Ronaldo reach 100 goals for Real Madrid.

Haaland wasn't far off such a record with former club Borussia Dortmund either, with the striker scoring 86 goals in 89 games for the German giants.

The forward is also not far from that sort of record on the international scene, with 32 goals scored in 35 appearances for Norway.

He did, in fact, manage it with Red Bull Salzburg where he scored a staggering 29 goals in 27 games.

A win or draw will see City retake top spot off Liverpool in the Premier League table, while Arsenal started the game in sixth.

Erling Haaland has equalled Cristiano Ronaldo's record for the fewest matches taken to reach a century of goals for a single club.

Haaland's 100th goal in all competitions for Manchester City came in Sunday's match against Arsenal as he opened the scoring after only nine minutes.

It meant Haaland reached the milestone in just 105 Man City appearances since signing from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022. It took Ronaldo 105 appearances to reach 100 goals for Real Madrid after joining the Spanish club from Manchester United.

To put Haaland's achievement into further context, Sergio Aguero, the former Man City striker and the highest-scoring overseas player in Premier League history, with 184 goals, took 158 appearances to score 100 times for the club.

Haaland a coward for throwing ball at Gabriel - Wright

Erling Haaland is a "coward" for throwing the ball at the back of Gabriel's head after Manchester City's late equaliser against Arsenal, says former Gunners striker Ian Wright.

City striker Haaland collected the ball from the net after John Stones' goal and threw it at the back of the Arsenal defender, who was looking the other way and had put his shirt over his head in frustration.

The Video Assistant Referee reviewed the incident but chose not to intervene because it was not deemed a red card offence.

The Football Association says it will not take any further action over any of the incidents during the game, including a heated exchange between the players at the final whistle.

"The one thing that boiled me up properly was Haaland's coward's move," Wright said in a video on Instagram.

"Throwing the ball at Gabi's head when he's not looking. When Gabi's back's turned to him. Real coward's move. Gabi would look him in the eye, you know.

"That's what bothered me more than anything else. I thought you [Haaland] were bigger than that."

Goals from Gabriel and Riccardo Calafiori cancelled out Haaland's early opener at Etihad Stadium, before Gunners forward Leandro Trossard was sent off just before half-time.

Mikel Arteta's side defended valiantly with 10 men after the break but were denied victory when Stones fired home in the eighth minute of added time.

The draw keeps City one point clear at the top of the Premier League with Arsenal two points adrift in fourth.

Erling Haaland matched Cristiano Ronaldo with century feat – and has Champions League record in his sights

Cristiano Ronaldo’s seemingly unattainable Champions League goalscoring record isn't as safe as it looks.

The Portuguese star netted a staggering 140 goals in 183 games in Europe’s top club competition before moving to the Saudi Pro League.

Next comes World Cup winner Lionel Messi with 129 goals in 160 games for Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain with Robert Lewandowski in third place with 96 goals in 122 games.

However the emergence of Erling Haaland could see the Manchester City striker surpass both Ronaldo and Messi.

In just 41 Champions League games, Haaland has netted a staggering 42 goals – all by the age of 24.

His first goals in the competition came in September 2019 when he hit a hat-trick for RB Salzburg in a 6-2 victory over Belgian side Genk.

The Norwegian’s towering frame and killer instinct in front of goal was enough to make fans instantly sit up and take notice.

Haaland’s instantaneous love affair with the competition continued through his 18-month spell at Borussia Dortmund and on to current employers Manchester City whom he helped fire to Champions League glory in 2023.

His goal in Tuesday’s 4-0 win at Slovan Bratislava saw him overtake former City star Sergio Aguero and draw level with Juventus great Alessandro Del Piero for goals scored in the competition.

He is now the 18th highest scorer in the modern Champions League era - and 20th in European Cup history - closing in on stars such as Neymar (43 goals), Didier Drogba (44 goals) and Mohamed Salah (45 goals).

Should City go deep in this season’s Champions League and if Haaland can remain fit, he could even overtake legendary figures such as Andriy Shevchenko and Zlatan Ibrahimovic who amassed 48 goals.

If he continues his incredible trajectory then Ronaldo just may have a few sleepless nights in the years to come.

The Al Nassr star was presented with an award to celebrate his achievement of holding the Champions League’s all-time scoring record at August’s leave-phase draw in Monaco.

His exploits has seen him lift the trophy on five separate occasions, his first coming with Manchester United in 2008.

Haaland has one triumph to his name but would bet against the Norwegian adding further titles in the years to come.

The Man City striker needs 99 goals to draw level with Ronaldo’s benchmark of 141 goals and 100 to eclipse the Portuguese.

Haaland’s goalscoring record sees him average a goal every 77.1 minutes with an average of 1.02 goals per game.

Therefore, at his current scoring rate he will need 99 games to knock Ronaldo off his perch.

And the new format works favourably for Haaland who will play a further two group games to boost his tally with the option of a further seven matches should City enter into the play-off round and make it through to the final.

If he was to play in the competition for the remainder of his career he could surpass Ronaldo in the 2035/36 campaign.

However, if City continue to reach the later stages and Haaland remains a key figure then he could become top dog by the 2033/34 season.

Ronaldo's last act in the Champions League came at the age of 37 and since Haaland is expected to reach the feat by the 2035/36 season, he could be the new king of European football by the time he reaches his mid-thirties.

Haaland is well used to chasing down records.

He recently netted his 100th goal for Man City in all competitions - matching Cristiano Ronaldo's record at Real Madrid for the fewest games needed to reach a century of goals in a major European league.

He has collected numerous Premier League records already.

In his debut Premier League season, Haaland broke the record for the most goals scored by a player in a single season, with 36.

He has also the most goals in all competitions by a Premier League player in one season (52) and became the fastest to 50 Premier League goals (48 games), beating Andy Cole by 17 games.

Haaland has enjoyed a record-breaking start to this domestic campaign too, with ten goals in his first six games.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland broke Norway's all-time goalscoring record at the age of 24 in their Nations League win against Slovenia.

He netted his 33rd international goal early in the game to go level with Jorgen Juve, who played in the 1920s and '30s, and then took the outright record in the second half with his 34th Norway goal.

Haaland, who made his Norway debut in 2019, has only taken 36 games to reach the record mark.

Erling Haaland sends message to Pep Guardiola with admission on Man City form

Erling Haaland admitted his current form is not good enough as he backed Pep Guardiola to find a solution to Manchester City’s dismal run.

Halaand has scored just one goal in City’s last six games as the Premier League champions another defeat at Aston Villa on Saturday.

Guardiola’s side have lost nine of their last 12 games in all competitions and Haaland said City’s players are suffering from a lack of confidence.

But the striker, who averaged a goal a game for City during his first two seasons at the club, said Guardiola is not the problem.

“We have to continue working,” Haaland told TNT Sports after the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa.

“The first thing I am looking at is myself, I have not been doing things good enough, have not been scoring my chances and everything. I have to be better. There is a lot on me and I’ve not been good enough.

“We know how important confidence is. You can see it. It affects every human being [But] we have to continue. We have to stay positive even though it is difficult. We have to keep working hard.”

Halaand pointed to Guardiola’s record and said the Spaniard will find a way to turn City’s results around despite going through his worst run of results as a manager.

“He’s won the Premier League six times in seven years. We can never forget that,” Haaland said.

“He will find the solutions. He’s been doing that every year, apart from one. We still believe in him and we have to work harder than ever right now.”

Guardiola said City’s levels dropped in the second half as goals from Jhon Duran and Morgan Rogers earned Villa a fully deserved victory.

Villa moved above City into fifth in the Premier League and City rarely looked like coming back despite Phil Foden’s consolation in the 93rd minute.

“We played a really good first half, and the second half we dropped, we were not good,” Guardiola told the BBC.

“The tempo as the game goes on is a bit more difficult. Congratulations Aston Villa on the victory

“It depends on us. The solution is bring the players back. We have just one central defender fit, that is difficult.

“We are going to try next game - another opportunity and we don’t think much further than that.

“Of course there are more reasons. We concede the goals we don’t concede in the past, we [don’t] score the goals we score in the past. Football is not just one reason. There are a lot of little factors.

“Aston Villa are a team that are doing well in the Champions League, Premier League as well. It is a tough place to come. Last season we won the Premier League, but we came here and lost.

“We have to think positive and I have incredible trust in the guys. Some of them have incredible pride and desire to do it. We have to find a way, step by step, sooner or later to find a way back."

Haaland signs new Man City deal until 2034

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has signed a new long-term deal with the club that will keep him at the Etihad until 2034.

The Norwegian joined City from Dortmund in 2022 and has scored 111 goals in 126 games for the club since.

The striker's previous deal, which reportedly included a release clause, had been due to expire in 2027.

Haaland's new deal would see the striker remain with City until his 34th birthday should he stay at the club until its expiry in nine-and-a-half years' time.

"I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club," said Haaland.

"Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters and it's the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody.

"I also want to thank [manager] Pep [Guardiola], his coaching staff, my team-mates and everyone at the club as they have all helped me so much in the past couple of years."

Txiki Begiristain, City's director of football, said: "The fact he [Haaland] is signed for so long demonstrates our commitment to him as a player and his love for the club."

Haaland's contract renewal comes two months after Pep Guardiola's decision to sign a new two-year deal of his own.

It has been suggested that Haaland's future at City is linked to Guardiola's but his decision to sign such a long-term deal dismisses that theory.

The length of Haaland's deal is the longest in the Premier League, eclipsing the nine-year deal Cole Palmer signed with Chelsea last August.

Since moving to the club from Germany, the Norway forward has won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the Champions League and the Super Cup.

Haaland, the son of former City defender Alf-Inge, has netted 21 times in 28 appearances for City this season.

The defending champions are 12 points behind leaders Liverpool in the Premier League table, having played an extra game than the Reds.

The striker's renewal comes as City await the outcome of their disciplinary case against the Premier League.

The club, which could face a huge sanction if found guilty, have denied the 115 charges levelled against them.

Man City give Erling Haaland update and another injury blow revealed

Erling Haaland faces a late fitness test as Manchester City wait to see if he is available to face Liverpool on Sunday but Pep Guardiola has suffered another injury blow as he worries that John Stones could be out for two months.

City’s 27-goal top scorer missed the defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday with a knee injury he sustained in last week’s 4-0 win over Newcastle and Guardiola revealed he felt discomfort when trying to walk upstairs in Spain.

But he is hopeful Haaland may be able to train and could return to the line-up against Arne Slot’s league leaders at the Etihad Stadium. “Yeah, maybe,” Guardiola said. “We will train today. Tomorrow we will test.”

Even with Haaland almost ever-present this season, City are 17 points behind Liverpool and Guardiola said: “It is better to have Erling on the pitch, we don’t have it but with Erling we are in the position we are in now.”

Defender Stones went off after seven minutes in the Bernabeu following a collision with Kylian Mbappe and Guardiola is bracing himself for bad news as he waits to see if the England international will require an operation.

“He is injured,” he said. “It is a difficult one, [in the] next hours or days we will know if he needs surgery. Like Manuel Akanji.”

Akanji was ruled out for eight-to-10 weeks and Guardiola’s comments suggested he fears that Stones, who has a thigh problem, could be out until April, which would rule him out of Thomas Tuchel’s first games in charge of England.

But Guardiola said that Kevin de Bruyne was not injured when he was left an unused substitute at the Bernabeu. “That was my decision,” he said, adding that he still trusts the 33-year-old to play in the biggest games. “Of course, he plays against Madrid at home.”

Guardiola said he didn’t need to speak to the City captain to explain why he was left out.

He added: “My relationship with Kevin is exceptional. It was just a decision. They don't ask the reason why, never ever is it personal. Jeremy [Doku] didn't play. I take decisions and that's all.”

Erling Haaland has become the quickest player to reach 100 goal involvements in the Premier League after scoring against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

The Manchester City striker tucked away a penalty after 11 minutes to reach a century of combined goals and assists after just 94 matches.

He has reached the landmark in six matches fewer than the previous record-holder, the Premier League's all-time leading goalscorer Alan Shearer, who achieved the feat in 100 matches.

Haaland to see specialist for ankle injury

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland will see a specialist after suffering an ankle injury in Sunday's FA Cup win against Bournemouth, with the club expecting him to play again this season.

The Norwegian was substituted in the 61st minute after scoring the equaliser as City went on to beat the Cherries 2-1 and reach the semi-finals.

The 24-year-old was later seen in a video on social media leaving the Vitality Stadium on crutches and with his left ankle in a protective boot.

City said on Monday that they anticipate Haaland "will be fit to play a further part in the remainder of this season including this summer's Fifa Club World Cup".

The club explained that Haaland, who has scored 30 goals in 40 games this season, had tests on Monday before being referred to a specialist to understand "the full extent of the injury".

Haaland missed a penalty and two big chances on Sunday, but he turned in Nico O'Reilly's cross to level the game before Omar Marmoush put City ahead as Pep Guardiola's side progressed to the last four.

The FA Cup provides City's only remaining chance of silverware this season following a difficult Premier League campaign and early exits from the Champions League and Carabao Cup.

Manager Guardiola has had to deal with injuries to key players throughout the campaign. His side sit fifth in the Premier League, one point off Chelsea in the Champions League places.

Haaland out for up to seven weeks with ankle injury

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland will be out for up to seven weeks with the ankle injury he suffered in Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final win at Bournemouth, says manager Pep Guardiola.

The Norwegian was substituted in the 61st minute after scoring the equaliser as City went on to beat the Cherries 2-1 and reach the semi-finals.

A video was posted on social media showing the 24-year-old leaving the Vitality Stadium on crutches and with his left ankle in a protective boot.

"They told me the doctors say between five to seven weeks," said Guardiola. "So hopefully the end of the season and by the Club World Cup he will be ready.

"Sometimes there are years when these kinds of things happen. It happened all season."

City said on Monday that Haaland would see a specialist about the injury and anticipate he "will be fit to play a further part in the remainder of this season including this summer's Fifa Club World Cup".

Haaland missed a penalty and two big chances on Sunday, but he turned in Nico O'Reilly's cross to level the game before Omar Marmoush scored the winner.

The FA Cup is City's only remaining chance of silverware this season following a difficult Premier League campaign and early exits from the Champions League and Carabao Cup.

Manager Guardiola has had to deal with injuries to key players throughout the campaign. His side are fifth in the Premier League, one point behind Chelsea in the race for a Champions League spot.

Haaland returns to full training with Man City

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has returned to full training following an ankle injury.

The Norwegian, 24, suffered the injury in the 2-1 FA Cup quarter-final win over Bournemouth on 30 March.

Haaland has been working on an individual training programme during his recovery, but was back with the first-team group on Wednesday.

He has scored 39 goals for club and country this season and, although it is not known when he will return to action, boss Pep Guardiola is expected to address the situation when he faces the media on Thursday before Friday's Premier League game against Wolves.

Meanwhile, 28-year-old midfielder Rodri has also been training with the first team, having been out since September with a serious knee injury.

The 2024 Ballon d'Or winner has not featured since last year after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Spain international Rodri had been spotted working on an individual training programme at City's Etihad Campus at the end of February.

Sources say the Club World Cup in June is a realistic timeframe for his return to action, rather than the remaining four games of the Premier League campaign or the FA Cup final.

Guardiola said last week: "Every training session he [Rodri] does with us, he does well. Rodri wants [to play] but the doctor will have to say, 'Pep you have the green light to give him minutes'.

"I want to rely on the doctors in that case."

City are currently fourth in the Premier League and relinquished hold of the title after four successive triumphs to new champions Liverpool.

They host Wolves on Friday (kick-off 20:00 BST) and face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final at Wembley on 17 May.

'Everyone hasn't been good enough' - Haaland on 'horrific' season

Reaching the FA Cup final at Wembley and being in a strong position to secure Champions League qualification would be a great campaign for many teams. Not for Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola's side have been English champions in each of the past four seasons and conquered Europe in 2023, but have fallen short in 2024-25.

They are fourth in the Premier League, 18 points behind title winners Liverpool, their hopes of winning a second Champions League in three seasons were ended at the hands of Real Madrid in the knockout play-offs, and they lost to Tottenham in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

But the FA Cup could still provide them with something to celebrate.

City take on Crystal Palace on Saturday, 17 May at Wembley, where they started the campaign by beating Manchester United on penalties to win the Community Shield in August.

"This season has been tough," striker Erling Haaland told BBC Sport. "It is not nice to lose so many games, it is boring and not fun. That's why we need to finish well and get a trophy.

"It is a good habit to reach Wembley and always important to win trophies. We have the FA Cup final to play for and in a horrific season we still managed to do this, that says it all.

"When you have won four league titles in a row, if you don't win five it's not going to be a successful season. Those are the standards we have set. We haven't done good enough in the league but still hoping for Champions League qualification.

"Crystal Palace are a really difficult club to play against. At Selhurst Park we drew [2-2 in December] and they started really well at the Etihad [in City's 5-2 win last month]. They are an amazing team with quality players."

'We should not search for excuses'

Haaland joined City in a £51.2m deal from Borussia Dortmund in June 2022, with the Norwegian's goals helping Pep Guardiola's side to win two Premier Leagues, the Champions League, an FA Cup and a Uefa Super Cup.

On a personal level, he has won the Golden Boot for being the top scorer in the Premier League in both 2022-23 and 2023-24, when he scored 36 and 27 league goals respectively.

He started this season in similar fashion with 10 goals in his first five matches, including back-to-back hat-tricks against Ipswich Town and West Ham United.

But Haaland has only scored 11 goals in 23 league matches since then, with Liverpool's Mohamed Salah set to finish the campaign as top scorer.

"We haven't been stable enough this season and we haven't won enough games, it is as simple as that," added the 24-year-old.

"We have to perform better in the big games. We haven't won enough consecutive games.

"Of course, we have had injuries throughout the season. But we should not search for excuses.

"Every single one of us hasn't been good enough and we haven't been at our best, so when you are not at your best you aren't going to win games in this country because it's so hard."

'Loads of energy' Haaland keen to make impact after injury

Haaland has been one of those players to have suffered with injury.

An ankle problem sustained in the 2-1 FA Cup quarter-final win over Bournemouth at the end of March kept him out of action for more than a month, before he returned in City's 0-0 draw at bottom-placed Southampton on Saturday.

To quicken his recovery, he uses red-light therapy, which is when infrared rays penetrate deep into tissues and joints to help prevent injuries.

"In England when there is not so much sun, you have to try and get your red light from somewhere else," said Haaland.

"It is about optimising the main things: training, sleep, to eat as clean as possible and do things that affect your recovery in the best way. The club pays a lot of money and the least I can do is try and get back as quick as possible.

"It has been horrible to get injured. It is not nice to see the team play but you have to make the best out of it and try to come back as quick as possible.

"You can't focus too much on the past because you can't do too much about it. All you can focus on is looking ahead. I am really happy to be back. Loads of energy."

City fan Haaland hopes for more Wembley success

The cup final against Palace will be one last Wembley appearance with City for midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, with the 33-year-old Belgium international leaving the club on a free transfer in the summer when his contract expires.

De Bruyne has won six Premier League titles, the Champions League, two FA Cups and the League Cup on five occasions while at City.

He is second in the list of most assists in the Premier League era, with 119 assists, behind only former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs on 162.

"We would love for Kevin to finish with a trophy," said Haaland.

"He has had an incredible time at Manchester City, it is ridiculous how many trophies he has won. Hopefully he will get one more trophy.

"He ranks right up there for me. To get the balls from him is a dream. It has been really special playing with him. Such a joy, and I am going to do everything I can to have this joy in the last few games.

"The future will be different with different players. When Kevin leaves we will need someone to replace him, although Kevin is irreplaceable in so many ways."

Haaland helped City win the 2023 FA Cup final and the Community Shield in August, although they were not his first trips to Wembley.

Back in 2014, when he was only 13, he visited the national stadium to watch City beat Sunderland 3-1 in the League Cup final, with his father Alf Inge, a former City midfielder, sitting next to him.

"It is just as special to go to Wembley," said the striker. "I have seen City win in the stands, have won as a player, and hopefully we can win there again."
