Will India intentionally underperform today so that Pakistan doesn't qualify for the Semi-Finals?

Let's be honest, these things do happen.

India's game against England in 2019 WC was a dampner.

Afghanistan did everything in their power to lose the game against India in last WT20 so that India still has chance to qualify.

If India beats SA today, that would open up the door for Pakistan. But considering they are arch rivals, would India lower their game and would take a strategic loss just to see Pakistan getting ousted from the tournament?

I don't think so.

Any professional team would like to win and top the group.

Also India would like to assure their Semi final entry with this win.. Who knows with the rain and upsets going on , if India loses to a minnow team then they can be in trouble too.
 
If India wins today, the tournament is open for Pakistan.

SA game will be a knockout.

I think Pakistan will beat Bdesh easily.

If they do this, they will be in semis with india.

Nonsense. Why would India underperform. They will do their best. SA is a better side than INdia in T20 especially at Perth odds are heavily favoring SA. Other than the fact we can use it an excuse i don't see an uspide in this theory.
 
No team wants to lose, infact if india lose today they may face an upset from ban or zim and get knocked out
 
Heard the conspiracies on Pakistani media and surprisingly similar nonsense in Indian show on Willow Xtra with Gambir.

India is not stupid enough to risk their position right now knowing full well that in this tournament even “the favorites” have been ran close by weaker teams. These conditions in Australia have leveled out the playing field quite a bit.

India, like any other team will take every game seriously until semis berth is guaranteed
 
If ICT loses today, their qualification to SF won't be sealed. Both Zim and Ban can upset India especially chasing against the legenday trundlers, and there is the rain factor which can upset calculations.

Pretty sure Rohit and co. will be eager to seal the SF spot after not making it out of group stage in 2021 WC and the Asia Cup last month.

SA will start as favorites since they have looked most impressive thus far, and in Perth their quicks will eat up the Indian counterparts.
 
Naah..this Indian team plays for itself unlike the one in 2019 where MS Dhoni displayed his ability of taking it deep to another level so much so that one team found itself getting knocked out of the tournament.

If this was the last group match and we had already qualified and Pakistan's qualification depended on us winning, then it would have atleast been worth a discussion.

I don't think any team would fancy facing the GOAT T20 bowling attack twice in a tournament.

As it stands, we are not even near qualification so no.
 
To be honest, why should we expect or not expect? They are our rivals. They will do what's best for them.

We should have won our matches.
 
This is the difference between emotions driven mohalla teams and a professional unit like India.

Unlike some subcontinental teams, I doubt India cares. They will do their best to win.
 
It’s crazy to even think India is concerned with Pakistan and its chances of qualifying to the next round.

Pretty pathetic to habitually pray for an Indian victory for Pakistan to progress to the next round. The objective of the Indian cricket team is to win matches and lift the cup, not to entertain these deranged expectations from Pakistani fans.

Pakistan must learn to win on its own without depending on the results of other countries.

India hasn’t qualified yet, they will be quite dumb to throw away a match for such petty gains when they can get smashed in this game and end up in trouble.

Pakistan is not making the semi-finals, South Africa is too good an opposition for these misfits.

India was depending on Afghanistan win in Asia cup to have a chance to qualify.

All this is normal so please stop with the moral high ground.
 
No way. Their own qualification is not guaranteed. If they lose 2 out of next 3 games they can be out themselves as now even Bangladesh Zimbabwe pakistan are in contention for 6 7 and 6 points theoretically.
However if they win today and against Bangladesh they will be top of group and unsurmountable at which point they could consider losing to Zimbabwe if they wanted but that only gives an easy sf to one that tops group 1 which may make sense in case team topping group one is seemingly a preferred team for India e.g. sri Lanka somehow. Even if not letting Zimbabwe qualify always gives a chance that they somehow beat group 1 topper and then assuming India wins their sf they can still get an easier final.
 
No they won’t underperform. But I want neighbors to lose every game they play. Don’t care about our chances after losing the 1st game
 
Yes they will. Even Dhoni did it during his time so why not Rohit's team.
 
Pakistan in the first place shouldn't have been in the place of depending on India. even if India loses intentionally they have only themselves to blame.

India will beat Zimbabwe, stutter a bit against Bangladesh but will end up winning it and end up with 8 points thereby finishing 2nd.

Pak vs Bangladesh will be shootout for a 3rd place finish
 
To be honest India and S Africa deserve to be in semi. We need big humiliation otherwise same managements i.e signboard head coach, fielding, batting coach along with laptop selector and Chatterbox Ramiz will keep their place for another 2-3 years. Loose all these matches for better future. There is no hope for Pakistan team in this World Cup. Australia will beat this team mercilessly if we manage to move in semi.
 
I think it's a ridiculous thing to expect. They are a professional cricket team that goes to out to win matches. They probably have the mindset of topping the group and winning the World Cup without losing a match. This is not the Pakistan side of the 90s that is either fixing matches or intentionally losing to Bangladesh for the sake of geopolitics lol.

South Africa has a better bowling attack, but Indian batters are elite players of high-pace and spin. And easily have a superior batting line-up.

South Africa also have two major crutches in their lack of a sixth bowling option and a captain who is essentially a passenger.
 
India will only think about India and rightfully so. No team deliberately loses or underperforms. I don't expect it today either. In some dead rubber game they may choose to rest players it that is in Indias interest only.
 
Question should be can India defeat SA in Perth, SA can easily defeat India and the concerns for India will start then. One washout and all of a sudden the semis spot will be threatened.
 
Firstly India would want to keep the winning momentum. They are not through yet that they'll take it easy. If they lose it won't be deliberate.
 
Aren't pakistan the kings of match fixing?
Better question probably is if pakistan is out of the tourny -will they throw game vs Bangladesh to try to knock India out and also earn extra cash on the side? That is a much more likely scenario
 
People keep forgetting Pakistan’s lackluster performance v Australia in last group stage match in 2009 icc champions trophy.

We batted so poorly and late blitz by Asif gave some hope, even Dravid was seen clapping but runs were not enough. I do recall our media at that time which was ironically the beggining of mass TV news channel era in Pakistan making fun of indians relying on Pakistanis.

Social media was at bare minimum at that time as smart phones were not there in Pakistan however our media made fuss out of it.
 
Why would India be scared of a team which can't even beat Zimbabwe and chocked like school boys against them. Why worry about a team which lacks mental toughness.

If South Africa wins today it is end of pakistan’s journey.

There can be another opening if Bangladesh beats india somehow in Adelaide. It is possible at Adelaide.

Then South Africa will finish above india & Pakistan can hammer Bangla in last game to get ahead of NRR.

Looking at zimbabwe they will beat netherlands and a close game between Zimbabwe & india will put pakistan ahead of nrr on india.
 
Lol, people taking South Africa lightly.
Players might be inexperienced and Bavuma poor choice of captain but rest of the squad is all nearly at peak performance age. They have hitters up top, quality proven finishers and the best rounded pace attack of the tournament along with good spin backup.

Dont be surprised if they top the group and go on to win the trophy
 
South Africa have real fire power, bath batting and bowling...

It's in everyone's interest, other then Siuth Africa's, for India to win this match.
Keeps the chance of Pak vs India final alive which could be the biggest and most lucrative game in the history of cricket.
 
This was a valid question in 2019 because they had already qualified. And I’ll be honest, they had the right to do so.

India haven’t qualified yet, so it would be silly if they did.

However, even if they do, we have no one else to blame.
 
South Africa is the strongest team in this group, and the disrespect on this forum is crazy to say the least :))
 
Silly question really. India can be beaten by Zimbabwe or Bangladesh as well and can easily crash out of the tournament.
 
Group is wide open, chances of rain are heavy too and India hasn't even qualify yet. So pretty sure India wont take the risk and btw, on paper SA team is superior.
 
Of course South Africa is a minnow team who should lose badly to India. But India will definitely underperform and lose to kick out Pakistan :facepalm
 
Can we even guarantee against Bangladesh. They have superior bowling than Zimbabwe, plus good spinners and better batsmen. If Bangladesh score 140 they have better chance to win because even Zimbabwe has better batsmen than us.

I don't think anybody is scared of Pak. Everybody wants to win their game and Ind wants that against SA. Pak batting is weak. Shaheen is not his old self. Waseem is a weak link. He can get wickets against minnows but his style of bowling will be a feast for good batsmen. Naseem is alright. Rauf and Shadab are the only two dangerous bowlers. Fielding is so so. Nothing scary about Pak unless you are a minnow
 
They haven't qualified for semis yet. Though they be favorites to win against Zim and Bangla, who knows what could happen.
 
You would think SA are just better than India in these conditions.

Would be an upset for India to beat SA in Perth.
 
Ind may well want to do what they did v eng in 2019 (ganguly & stokes have openly questioned that game) but De kok & co will have been looking at there IPL contracts last night & say Pehle aap barey bhai !!
 
Silly question. Hypothetically speaking, Even if they try to do this, it is impossible to control every aspect of a T20 game
 
Weird thread.

First of its not indians responsibility to help qualify pakistan. We ourselves placed ourselves in such a situation.

Second, south africa is really good, rpussow and de cock are batting well. India can lose cause they dont have bowlers for the. I expect arshdeep to be attacked like there is no tomr.

Lets hope india wins though. The obly weak leak in the SA pace attack is the out of date Wayne Parnell who i am surprise is still playing. Terrible bowler
 
That 2019 game where india didn’t attempt to win was quite obvious and really bad, so that showed me to curtail expectations from india. SA chasing gives them advantage in this match I believe.
 
Btw i went over the table again. Basically india needs to win this game aswell.

If India wants to disqualify Pakistan they can easily do so bu losing to Zimbabwe. Many of us are focusing on South Africa and not Zimbabwe.

Roday we dodged a bullet when Zimbabwe lost cause they would have had 5 points and with easy two against netherlands they would had made it.

If zimbabwe wins against netherlands the deciding factor can be against india and if india wants they can loss to them.

IND will want to stay on top as NZ will for sure top the aother group. INd will not wnat to face NZ in semis

This. India vs Zimbabwe is the last group game. If, by then , India are on 8 points , ZIM on 5 points and Pakistan on 6 points - this is the only scenario in which India might tactically look to lose so that the GOAT bowling attack is out of the tournament.

This game is way too crucial.
 
It's almost irrelevant to be honest because the chances of Pakistan beating SA are very low.

Never mind underperform or overperform - they are currently being outclassed by a rampant pace bowling unit.
 
I think Indian batting is not much better than ours when it comes to bouncy fast short pitched bowling. They are being schooled, properly by the Saffers right now.
