This is a must. Home tournament, with the best T20 line up India has ever had, with certain players at their absolute peak and our best ever limited overs bowler (if fit). No excuses this time!

This is the team India should go with:-

Rohit
Kohli
SKY
Pant :inti
KL
Pandya
Jadeja( Samad in squad)
Thakur
Rashid Khan type spinner
Bhuvi
Bumrah

Our major weakness is lack of quality spinner. If we can have a quality spinner like Rashid Khan is for Afghanistan, we will be an invincible side. But right now we aren't.

Nope.

We have been chokers in tournaments of late.

This time though the batting strategy has changed a lot for India T20. In India, they remain as favourites alongside England (who have also gathered enough experience in India)

Will definitely go into the tournament as favorites as not only they have a decent team but, also the tournament is happening in India.

Same team but Rahul to open and Kohli to drop down to no.4...

And we have to make peace with the fact that we'll be without a world class spin option at the WC. Sundar right now is the first pick for that no.8 spot...

Also don't think going with Jadeja is going to be a wise move.

They have the team to win. It's on the players to get the job done. Being at home is an advantage but also an added pressure.

The greatest T20I batsman of all time has no business batting below number 3

Having played two back to back high quality and competitive IPL within 6 months India will have the advantage. It should be easy for India this time. :inti

Strong possibilities. Team is top-tier, playing at home aswell.

I would expect them to win. They've got a conveyor belt of ready made T20I batsmen, but of course England are the other dangerous side.

T20 is too much of a crapshoot.

So I would think we would start a slight favourites, but winning it all is another matter entirely.

They should win, but final is a one off and not best of 3, so I think someone will upset them

For India to win the WT20, they need the great Rishabh Pant to replicate the great things he did in Australia once again. :inti

They should but for that they'd have to overcome two formidable challenges - England and Virat's captaincy.

Great team. Bring in Ashwin.

They have a decent chance and have a good team but not so good that we say that india will easily win the wc.Almost all teams have decent chances

Plenty of good teams out there, but yes, I'll put us as favourites.

Clear favourites are India, followed by England, New Zealand and Australia.

Pakistan, South Africa, West Indies will have to fight it out hard to make the qualification stages.

If India get their combination right, they will be overwhelming favorites.

They can match England’s batting strength and they have by far the best bowling resources in the world.

From England, only Archer would get into India’s bowling attack.

Kohli, Rohit, Rahul, Dhawan, Pant, Pandya, Suryakumar, Shaw, Iyer, Ishan Kishan.

Then you have got the likes of Samson, Pandey and Nitish Rana who are not even in the picture but would walk into the other Asian sides.

The amount of talent that India has is incredible. If only Pakistan had half the options they have.

Even an India B or C team would have a much stronger batting lineup than all other Asian teams.

They are at a completely different level compared to other Asian teams. No wonder they are not interested in the Asia Cup – it is a total waste of time.

It's expected. If they don't win the world cup then that would be a huge upset.

Why Bro? He is a total T20 package - excellent batting, Accurate bowling , Fielding -should we even go there? he has the ability to change the game on his own by excelling in any one of the above three skills and creating an impact. + there is no one in a T20 format as good a spinner.

It takes one bad outing by one player to lose a match. Any team can beat anyone. Team that has inform spin bowlers is likely to go far in this tournament. Pace bowlers may disappear if they are not smart.

In T20 formats, theres about 6 teams I feel would make the semis. And from there its knockout. One good spell of bowling, some sensational fielding, a spell of batting madness like Adelaide - or the wc 2019 semis, and it all changes.
I feel Eng, Ind, Aus, WI, Pak and NZ are top contenders for the semis.
Will be exciting.

Jadeja is worth his place in the team purely as a fielder. He is the greatest all-round fielder of all time – absolutely sensational at every aspect of fielding and in every position.

He can produce something spectacular at any given moment and turn the match on its head and uplift his teammates.

I rate him as the third greatest after Symonds and AB

I think India 2016 WT20 team was stronger. India hosted the 2016 edition, and failed to make it to the final at home (lost in SF) though peak Kohli won PoS award in a losing cause.

This year mainly depends on one factor only, Covid 19 in India. Plan B for the tournament is already being discussed, but baring a further delay, the WT20 21 edition may be hosted by another country. If so, India of course lose the home advantage. Also depends on infection rates by then too.

Assuming the WC is hosted by India, I think India will fail to win this time too. WT20 isn't IPL level; its full on international level and the quality of teams is much higher compared to jaded/semi-retiree cricketers that make up the pseudo international element of IPL teams. Plus it's the WC, so a lot more at stake and different type of pressure.

Anyway, T20 is way more unpredictable than other formats.

West Indies/England to win.

I just feel that India will choke or find a way not to win the tournament. Don't think we handle pressure that well and combined withplaying at home, hope we donot bottle it. The one occasion when we handled the pressure well was WC 2011. Most other times we have won big when there was less or no pressure on us.

SF and final are always a lottery. Carlos "remember the name" Brathwaite won the WC for WI with 4 sixers in the last over against Eng. He's no where to be seen now.

Just because IPL is the best league by far in the world doesn't necessarily mean India will win the cup. What it means is India can field two SF worthy teams on the park. IPL gave India the depth and skills. IPL also gave the skills to all the top players in the world. They will all be in a prime position to thrive as well.

India needs to find that spinner. The other 10 spots are set.

It will be an open tournament. India with it's IPL will have some sort of advantage over other sides.

Winning T20WC is not something you can brag about. Even if India win it, you guys will find a lot of excuses.

T20 cricket is about 60% of skills + 40% of luck factors. Even if you have a Star dudded team , a slowist knock from a good player in an important match would stop you from winning the cup which is what happened in the previous two tournaments.

No they can't. They are not good enough especially the bowlers apart from bumrah guy all others are not good enough. They may make into semis but they won't win the tournament.

They have the team tailor made for conditions. No excuses for India not to win it.

Only England have firepower to win against them, that too if likes of Sharma, Kohli and Pant have a bad day, which is highly unlikely.

That said, teams like WI, Aus, NZ or even Pak can win on a certain day against India but overall this is India's world cup to lose.

No home teams won T20 WC though

2007 SA - India winner
2009 Eng - Pakistan winner
2010 WI - England winner
2012 SL - West Indies winner
2014 BD - Srilanka winner
2016 Ind - West Indies winner

No he's not a "total T20 package". Accurate bowling doesn't usually work in T20 cricket unless one's referring to a fast bowler bowling accurate yorkers. Batsman have lined him up on so many occasions and he has had no answers whatsoever...

Yes, I agree that he's a tremendous fielder and has also improved his power game a bit with the bat but he's a hit and miss of the highest order and can screw us up royally with a 23(22) in a crunch game on a flat wicket.

I'd much rather we go with a guy who can bowl a good tight 2-3 overs and would hold his own with the bat in hand. Looking forward to Riyan Parag, Samad, Tewatia etc to take that no.7 spot...

That is also true. Another important trend to note, the country that hosted the T20 WC has won the next edition.

Eng hosted 2009 - won the next one in 2010
WI hosted 2010 - won in 2012
SL hosted 2012 - won in 2014

Ind hosted 2016 - winner in 2021 is.....? IYKWIM :srini

^ Only BD broke that trend. They hosted in 2014 but couldnt win 2016. But its BD afterall...so no surprises.

Looks like my thread was deleted, so as I said there:

INDIA MUST WIN.

No excuses for me as a fan. Home advantage, best ever limited overs side, especially comparing to the rest of the field, and BUmrah when fit as our best ever ODI bowler. If this is another tournament loss, heads need to roll.

if india do not win the tournament then it will be a failure in my opinion for them regardless of what else happens.

Every ICC event that we don't end up winning should be considered a failure. And if we don't even make the finals, then it's a disaster...

Has been the case since 2013 (barring the 2015 WC).

Kuldeep Yadav.

Leggies get hit but on their day can easily win a game with a spell.

Kuldeep is a mental midget and is struggling to get into the best XI of his IPL franchise team. The old Bhajji that played in 2011 WC is getting into the KKR XI ahead of Kuldeep unfortunately.

It seems our best bet is to go with Ashwin as he can atleast bat a bit at no.9 and hang on if someone else is playing a blinder.

It will be like the 2019 50 over world cup when the home team were favourites, expected to win and did win, just.

If we apply the same logic, than shadab as well (keeping in mind pakistan's fielding standards)...

We will muff it up. Am pretty sure the playing 11 for WC will be completely different from the ones we are playing with these days . I won't be surprised if Dhawan some how makes it as an opener or may be even three lol

lot of failures recently then , need to buck up otherwise there's no point winning all these meaningless series.

I don't think so. For all its issues the BCCI is a professional outfit and they keep a strong group of core players.

And what about Dhawan, he has played consistently and most recently played as opener...badly yes but he is a terrific striker.

As all-round fielder, Jadeja is certainly up there. He takes splendid catches and hit the throw plenty of times as well.

I agree with Mamoon's opinion on Jadeja that he is someone who can produce a moment of brilliance any time which can lift the team's morale and turn the game on its head.

They are clear favourites, no doubt about that. Even Poms or Aussies are not that close. But then again, one single off day in knock out matches and you are gone. So they have to play their usual best cricket in every deciding match.

The issue with T20 cricket is only one player in the opposition needs to have a dream day. Let's say they play West Indies, and then you have Hetmeyer or Russel smashing a ton from 40 balls and all of the sudden Windies make 225. Then it will be hard, even for India. Funny game.

I have a feeling it will be India vs Eng (India due to home advantage and England has played recently) or Ind vs Pak (Pak due to Babar and Fakhar good form. if only they had stronger spinner)

Key Team India questions IPL 2021 can answer

This IPL will be a proving ground for both players and new ideas that need to be tested or fine-tuned. With that in mind, we will track a few key questions (should Kohli open the batting?) and a few key players (who will be the preferred spinner?) through the duration of IPL, looking at the same set of data going into the tournament, at its mid-stage and at the end. Here’s the first of a three-part series.

Virat Kohli got off the mark in IPL 2021 in a rather awkward manner. Against Trent Boult’s length ball on the stumps, the RCB captain leaned to play on the on-side but got a leading edge as the ball raced to the straight boundary. No matter how they came, he would have taken those runs any day. The demand of the format is such.

Another demand this format makes is constant tinkering and a healthy disregard for conventional cricketing wisdom. It showed in the position Kohli was batting—as opener. Kohli was India’s best batsman by miles at the 2016 T20 World Cup. He batted at No. 3. With a tally of 273 in 5 games he was the force behind the hosts reaching the semi-final. Yet, with the 2021 World Cup in view, he has a different plan in mind—open the batting and open up the space to pack the middle order with power hitters. There is a lot at stake for Kohli at the World Cup, scheduled in India in October: win his first ICC trophy as captain, end India’s eight-year drought at ICC events and also win their first major trophy in T20 since 2007.

Will Shikhar Dhawan make the team?

Once India’s go to opener at the ICC events, the left-hander has fallen out of favour. Off-form in T20s and intense competition from a top-heavy line-up means Dhawan will have to be an absolute beast in this IPL. After all, he was the second highest scorer (618) at the IPL 2020 for DC.

The KL Rahul conundrum

Rahul is a T20 giant and one of the chief contenders for the opener’s slot. Yet, his strike rate is an issue; he does not start with a bang, nor does he accelerate significantly later.

Suryakumar Yadav or Ishan Kishan?

In Yadav, India have found their version of a “360” player. A big hitting, fearless and innovative batsman. He made his debut for India in the T20 series against England in March and his progress for Mumbai Indians will be closely tracked by the team management. Kishan, the young left-hander was one of the primary factors (516, 14 matches) in Mumbai Indians winning the IPL 2020. He opened and also played at No. 3 in the England T20I series. His prowess against spin in the middle overs is only second to Kohli among Indians.

Who will be India’s frontline spinner?

That spot used to belong to Yuzvendra Chahal, but it’s slipping away. In India, the spinner’s role will be crucial in the World Cup and there are some bright new players to consider, like Washington Sundar, who’s also a very strong batsman, and Axar Patel. Not to forget that R Ashwin.

Is Bhuvi still the best?

He has been India’s biggest comeback story in recent times. Once India’s No. 1 pacer, a spate of injuries derailed his career. Against England, however, Bhuvi again showed his ability to provide breakthroughs. He had an economy of 4.65. If he can do well for SRH, a place in India’s World Cup XI will follow.

Partnering Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah is in a league of his own and will spearhead India’s bowling attack, but who will be his partners? T Natarajan, the emerging star of IPL 2020, brings in variety with his left-arm pace. Shardul Thakur has promise but has struggled in Powerplay. Navdeep Saini has been around for a while with a whole lot of pace but a poor strike rate. Deepak Chahar is a rising star, but he needs to take more wickets.

A moustache thing

A thumb injury forced Ravindra Jadeja out for some time now. He is back with CSK, a franchise looking for redemption after missing the playoffs in 2020. Jadeja is brilliant with both bat and ball, but now he needs to prove himself on comeback.

Any team who wins a toss and bats second - will be winning the world cup. A little bit of luck will also play in the favor of a winning team when playing on dustbowls. Technically speaking - bowlers will be treated like machine throwers and then it is all about chasing it.

He first needs to improve his strike rate of 123 and avg of 21 in T20's. :rabada2 :inti

Actually he doesn't need to improve anything. He has already won for india where it matters.
Rest all is a bonus. As for your pedestrian comprehension of stats, do some research on sample sizes.

T20 World Cup preparations are on right track: Babar Azam

KARACHI: His team's frequent batting collapses in the T20 series against South Africa notwithstanding, Pakistan captain Babar Azam has said preparations for this year's World Cup in India are
on the right track.

Babar, who led Pakistan to their first-ever T20 series win in South Africa and also captained his side to a 2-1 victory in the ODI series, on Friday said he was satisfied with the performances of his players.
"Yes, it is frustrating that our middle and lower-order batsmen couldn't perform to expectations, but cricket is a team game and not everyone can perform in every match," he said after the match in Centurion.

Babar, who saw Pakistan clinch another tight last over win over South Africa in the fourth and final T20 match, said the batting collapse was disappointing.

"It is always difficult for those coming in after the top-order batsmen get out. I think we just needed one partnership to settle things, but that didn't happen," he said. From 98 for one, Pakistan lost seven wickets before reaching the target of 145. Pakistan won the four-match T20 series 3-1 but in two matches, they somehow scampered to victory in the final over against a depleted SA side.

"It's great to win both the white-ball series in South Africa and this will give us lot of confidence for the coming matches.
"The series has helped us try out different combinations and I think we are on track in our preparations for the World T20 Cup,
by which time we will have our squad ready for the big event," Babar said.

He admitted that the form of some batsmen was a cause for concern.
"I think as a team we did well, we supported each other and the bowlers also staged some strong comebacks in the series although we couldn't take early wickets," he added.
"The more you are successful against good opposition and in different conditions it helps you develop and become a better batsman."

Indian T20s team is a pretty good team. Lots of posters will hype a lot but it’s no formidable like their test team. There’s unproven middle order. Not clear whose gonna replace Yuvi and Dhoni yet although various players have shown potential.
There’s a lot of batting talent in India but mostly competing for top order. Bowling is looking good but need another spinner and pacers to step up around Bumrah.
At the moment, Pak T20 team is very much at par with Indian T20 team. And that’s reflected in the rating/rankings where there’s not much difference.

Very tough to call. England, Pakistan, Australia, West Indies are the big threats. I think we can easily beat the likes of SA,NZ, SL etc.
