What's new

Will serve Army after cricket: MS Dhoni

What about DHONI being mediocre in TEST? Gavaskar played ODIs when it was still fairly new.

Kohli was part of 2011 WC and 2013 WC winning squad. He is beast in all 3 forms of games and will go down better than Tendulkar. Dhoni is nowhere near Kohli, let alone Tendulkar. Not a single Indian fan will put Dhoni above Tendulkar.

Pakistan fans could say what they wish, it hardly matters

99% of cricket fans will put :srt miles above :msd ,the rest 1% are Dhoni fans :))

He was lucky to get the test team handed to him, the fab 4, gambhir-sehwag, zaheer all were most important players of his team when we won the mace none are his players. He didn't change anything, he was a great finisher but given the fact that there was no spot for him in the middle order for most of his career he didn't sacrifice anything. Also one of the reasons why he has a phenomenal average is because he bats lower down the order and has a lot of no's, so his stats are because of where he bats.

Dhoni solved lot of problems. before him we've tried too many keepers, so that's the answer why Dhoni is important in those wins.

Is that Salman Butt standing next to him lol?

That's Pankaj Advani .. Another Indian Great .. He has won more Championships in his sport than anyone else from Asia ever .. Probably deserves the award more than anyone else in India today

We are not discussing whether Dhoni is good or not, you don't captain a team to test no 1 position, CT, WC etc without being good. The question is whether he is one of the top 5 or top 3 cricketers India has produced and for me he definitely isn't.

LOL. Apparently Dhoni played well because he had Yuvi in the kitty. By the same logic, Gambhir played well because he had both Dhoni and Yuvi in the kitty. Cant stop laughing here

Gambhir played the best innings in that final. It is a travesty that people talk about Dhoni innings more.

Maybe. He also got out like a headless chicken. Isn't that the complaint most of the Indians have about Tendulkar too? That he didn't finish games? Despite being in poor form, Dhoni promoted himself and scored at more than a run a ball and stayed till the end and duly received the MOM. I'm not putting down Gambhir's innings as it was good too until he got out. However, 2011 final belongs to Dhoni and for a good reason

And now we know why he lost the game against England purposely.

Got what he deserved in the semi final.

So he'll retire from Cricket now?

Gambhir actually finished the Job it was just a formality once he played the best innings of the match. Dhoni played a supporting role so did others in the batting line up for India.

Good for him, seems like a publicity stunt. I used to like him as a player but the minute he started handing out caps after pulwama, he was done.

He seems like a confused individual to me.

Running for Prime minister.

He's doing it the right way unlike hot headed Gambhir

Interesting choice of second career. Especially that his likely net worth could be in the range of $150-$200 million. Most people in the range tend to pursue something different.

I never thought of that, but it makes perfect sense.. hopefully he goes for it, will be interesting drama at the very least

Think of it, this is MS Dhoni. He believes he can achieve anything and what is there for him to achieve once he retires from cricket? He probably does not want to spend the rest of his life as a commentator or a coach considering he was as big an icon as Tendulkar if not bigger.

He will be the prime minister of India one day, you’ve read it here first.

It makes sense now by Dhoni purposely did not try to win against England. He did not want Pakistan to advance and now is about to train with an army in Kashmir oppressing innocent people.

This is why I never respect Indian players, Pakistanis need to wake up. Today you cheer them, put thier photos on your profile pictures but tommorow they will abuse your brothers and sisters while wearing army clothing of an enemy nation.

Does Dhoni have fitness for army? Isn't he a bit old now?

If I were him, I would open a business and make money from business.

Uh no. It was a great knock but he didn't promote himself. Tendulkar asked him to go in ahead of Yuvraj to counter Murali.

I highly doubt it.

Someone who has plans to be in politics will ensure that he is in public eye all the time. He will ensure that he voices his opinion on a variety of things (like Gambhir has always done).

Dhoni does the exact opposite. He stays away from the limelight as much as possible. And when was the last time you heard Dhoni comment about anything outside of cricket? I honestly don't think he ever has.

Dhoni will not join politics. I can bet my house on it.

So why is he making all these political moves?

So why is he making all these political moves?

It appears political now because of the current situation.

But as we can see from the OP, Dhoni had made plans to join the army (in some capacity) way back in 2012, if not earlier.

So he is just following through with his plans. He's not being an opportunist, if that's what you are thinking.

A 75 ball 90 is a supporting role? It was Gambhir that was supporting Dhoni until his mad dash to the pavilion.

MS Dhoni, who retired from Test cricket in 2014, might not see any Indian player wear his jersey No. 7 when the No.1-ranked team begins its World Test Championship campaign against the West Indies with two-Test series, starting on August 22 in Antigua. According to news agency PTI, most of the Indian players will opt for their limited-overs jersey numbers. A senior BCCI official told PTI that there was "very little chance that any of the players will wear" MS Dhoni's jersey in Test cricket.

"Virat is expected to wear 18 while Rohit wears 45. Most of the players will wear their respective ODI and T20 numbers. Since MS is no longer playing Test cricket, jersey No.7 is available but there is very little chance that any of the players will wear it," the BCCI official told PTI.

"People relate jersey No. 7 with MS. The consignment of numbered jerseys will only arrive in Caribbean only after ODI series," he added.

Sachin Tendulkar's famous jersey No.10 has already been "unofficially retired" by the BCCI from white ball cricket after pacer Shardul Thakur wore it briefly and was heavily trolled on social media.

While no Indian players wears the No.10 jersey as a mark of respect for Tendulkar's stupendous achievements, there is a strong possibility that jersey No.7 worn by Dhoni in limited-overs will also not be used in the Test format.

While a jersey can't be retired officially, the BCCI may mull a move as Dhoni's stature in Indian cricket is such and they also have the Thakur trolling incident on the back of their minds.

Dhoni, who has been playing limited overs internationals since 2015, has taken a two-month sabbatical to serve the Parachute Regiment under the Territorial Army where he is an Honorary Lieutenant Colonel.

The Ashes, starting August 1, will be the first bilateral under the World championship banner. It will also be the first such series where players will have jersey numbers.

The move by ICC is an effort to popularise the game and help fans connect better with the players.

1. Do you have any proof of Dhoni purposely not winning againist England, or is it again one of your slanderous remarks?

2. Your view on Indian Army can be anything, does not mean others have to agree.

3.Pakistani players and artists came to India and earned their bread, yet they suppirt their own army, if thats is right, why is Dhoni wrong? Not that it matters though.

4. Regarding you not resprcting Indian players, read your own signature.

Lol at this I appreciate Ghambir is not a likable guy and you want to prove his innings meaningless to up Dhoni's innings. Dhoni wasnt there when score was 9/2 Ghambir was and when he got out he had 97 to Dhoni 60. There was a grand total of 50 runs to win out of which Yuvraj scored 24.

Only Ghambir innings was important because he had to stabilize the innings other than that it was a routine chase nothing special.

The proof is in the footage of his innings and remarks by even his own captain. Unless you have no clue of cricket, it's obvious he was not going for the win. Defending balls when you need boundaries shows no intent.

Dhoni will be training with an army in a region where innonecent people have been oppressed and occupied. It means nothing to me if Indians are upset, Dhoni is a pathetic human being imo.

1. If you read this forum, before and during the WC it was stated ample times that if top order doesnot score the runs,India isnt winning. Once the top 3 went, India was not going to chase 350. Heck they couldnot chase 240.

2. Dhoni will be training with his country's army in a region that by his country's constitution a part of his country. It doesnot matter to anyone if you are upset or others are. As i said, regarding your opinion you must read your signature.

MS Dhoni, the former India skipper, who is also a Lieutenant colonel (Honorary) in the Territorial Army unit of the Parachute Regiment, is proceeding to be with the battalion. MS Dhoni will be with the unit, currently stationed in the Kashmir Valley as part of Victor Force, from July 31 to August 15, 2019. As requested by the officer and approved by Army Headquarters; MS Dhoni will be taking on the duties of patrolling, guard and post duty and would be staying with the troops.

MS Dhoni has taken a two-month sabbatical from cricket to serve his unit.

According to Army sources, Dhoni will undergo training with the jawans and live like any other soldier. Dhoni's battalion, which is headquartered in Bengaluru, is currently posted in the Valley, according to these sources.

In 2015, Dhoni became a qualified paratrooper after having completed five parachute training jumps from Indian Army aircraft at the Agra training camp.

There were speculations over Dhoni's retirement after India were knocked out of the Cricket World Cup after losing to New Zealand in the semi-final.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chairman of selectors MSK Prasad on Sunday clarified that Dhoni isn't hanging up his boots just yet. However Rishabh Pant has been included as the first choice keeper for the squads named for the various series in the West Indies.

Sources have told NDTV that he is expected to turn up for India in the T20Is vs New Zealand and South Africa in February 2020 and even play the IPL next year.

So MSD actually doing duty with his regiment and serving it like other soldiers. I thought it was all show, apparently not. Well done MS.

There was no critical innings played that day other than Ghambhir's. Only other innings which was important came in the first innings.

Whats it got to do with cricket though? He should be left alone to do whatever he wants like many others.

That's ignorance. How can it be important if they lost? Again, the only innings that will be remembered in that game is Dhoni's. That's how the world works.

They lost - that's why it was not critical to the outcome but that innings was needed to make the game of it atleast. And most knowledgeable fans will remember Ghambhir innings as the most important one to India winning it. I dont care what the Dhoni fans think etc its clear India has more Dhoni fans than Ghambir as Ghambhir was never liked as much.
