Will Virat Kohli become the first batsman to average 60 in ODIs?

Bevan has not outs in nearly 40% of his innings, and his SR was abysmal even for his own era. Not even a comparison really.
You’re kidding, right? Do you know the strike rates of other really good ODI players in the 90’s?

Here's a list of players with better SR than Bevan during Bevan's career in ODIs (14 Apr 1994 - 29 Feb 2004), min 4k runs

Gilchrist, Jayasuriya, Tendulkar, Lara, Chris Cairns, Jonty Rhodes, Arvinda Silva, Gibbs, Ijaz, Anwar, Cronje, Steve Waugh, Ponting, Mark Waugh, Andy Flower, Azharuddin, Ganguly.

And that proves his career SR of 74.16 was abysmal during his time? :))

Out of the players you mentioned, here are the ones with their career SR just marginally ahead -

Hansie Cronje - 76.47

Andy Flower - 74.59

Steve Waugh - 75.91

Mark Waugh - 76.90

Here are the ones with marginally inferior career SR -

Mohammad Azharuddin - 74.02

Sourav Ganguly - 73.7

Bevan was a lower order batsmen. Obviously, the SR is lower considering that.

It is poor for a lower order batsman, no excuse to eat up deliveries after 40th over. Kohli as a top order batsman is doing what Bevan was supposed to but couldn't as a lower order batsman.

Too much of experimentation is going on.

And stupid selection. New players are getting in and out of the squad every series, this is no way to build confidence and form for youngsters. Dunno why Kohli is letting this happen, Dhoni had a very stable team. He let Rohit play freely and uninterrupted until Rohit found his groove.

What experimentation? Bumrah, Chahal, Yadav, Kumar and co all play ODIs.

The batting line up is largely what it has been for years.

I know there are the odd changes here and there but a side which is talked about so much and ranked number two they have been very up and down in recent times. Maybe less showboating and more training will help.

lol, when was the last time they lost an ODI series? Let me refresh it for you, in Eng 7 months back. And before that, don't remember really. In between they won series in SA, NZ and Aus, 3 of the toughest places for a subcon team to win. Which other team has done that?

Up and down, lol.

I didnt say they lost series but they have been up and down. They dropped a match to an Australian side with smith, warner, starc or hazlewood. Aus at the time were playing a bowler who averaged 30 in List A cricket, hardly a set of world beaters. Yet India couldnt even chase an average total with their full strength batting line up.

They have now dropped two matches to Australia, at home, while fielding a full strength side against a second string side.

This is what I meant by up and down.

In semi-finals, Shaheen will run through English top order and form a collapse which will lead to Pakistan making their way to finals.

However, in finals, Kohli will lead India to WC win by hitting a century against arch-rivals Pakistan.

Cannot maintain a 60+ avg as a top order batsman...simply asking too much...this is probably where his odi average peaks out...it will eventually drop down to 51-52 levels by end of his career
