I know gujarati muslims are mostly deobandi or ahl e hadith they are a lot stricter than your average Brit Pakistani or Bangladeshi. but they also dont get let their kids get involved in the gang or wasteman culture that affects a lot of Pakistani and Bangladeshi youth. They are religious in the private sphere but also put a lot of emphasis on education like most other migrant Indians

Even people from central Punjab area are mostly technically 'Deobandis' but they're not anywhere as religiously strict as Gujarati Muslims. I agree about them being very disciplined and education focussed. Bear in mind lots of them come from business and professional type backgrounds from East Africa so that puts a lot of them at a big advantage in the UK compared to the Paks and Banglas here. There's also lots of Punjabi Muslims from Kenya/Uganda as well and they do better than the average BritPaks.

UCLA Gunman Identified As Indian-American Techie Mainak Sarkar

The gunman who killed a UCLA professor has been identified as his former doctoral student Indian-American Mainak Sarkar, who had accused him of stealing his computer code and giving it to someone else, a media report said.

Mainak Sarkar, an alumni of the IIT-Kharagpur, shot and killed professor William Klug in a small office in University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) before killing himself on Wednesday, The Los Angeles Times reported, citing sources.

The shooting prompted a complete lockdown of the campus and deployment of hundreds of police officers as well as federal agents.

All university classes were cancelled on Wednesday. The lockdown was lifted shortly after noon. Some 43,000 students are enrolled at the UCLA campus, according to its website.

Klug, 39, was an associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering and had been the target of Mainak Sarkar's anger on social media for months, the paper said.

He accused the professor of stealing his computer code and giving it to someone else, it said.

"William Klug, UCLA professor is not the kind of person when you think of a professor. He is a very sick person. I urge every new student coming to UCLA to stay away from this guy," Mainak Sarkar wrote on March 10.

"He made me really sick. Your enemy is my enemy. But your friend can do a lot more harm. Be careful about whom you trust," he wrote.

In his doctoral dissertation, submitted in 2013, Mainak Sarkar had expressed gratitude to Klug for his help and support, the paper said. "Thank you for being my mentor," he wrote.

Before enrolling at UCLA, Mainak Sarkar earned a master's degree at Stanford University, according to his LinkedIn page.

In 2000, he graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur with a degree in Aerospace Engineering.

He also had a stint as a research assistant at the University of Texas and worked as a software developer.

After UCLA, Mainak Sarkar worked remotely as an engineering analyst for an Ohio-based rubber company, Endurica LLC where he worked until August 2014.

I used to be scared of being shot as a bystander, then some guy was gunned down in front of my door, since then every near by shooting felt like 100s of miles away. In fact, some guy was shot in the face last week like 2 minute away from my area.

White kids scare me most, when they decide it is time for them to go, they take at least half dozen people with them.

(CNN)Two people are dead after a shooting on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, authorities said Tuesday.

Three people are in critical condition and one other person was injured, UNCC Chief of Police Jeff Baker said.

An officer quickly went to the room where the suspect had fired, disarmed him and took him into custody, Baker said. The suspect was armed with a pistol, he said.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department identified the suspect as Trystan Andrew Terrell, 22. He is in custody with charges against him pending.

"Right now, he is not somebody (who) was on our radar," he said, adding the suspect said nothing while he was being handcuffed.
Authorities announced Tuesday night that remaining occupants of UNC Charlotte campus buildings can depart.

The university, which has 30,000 students, tweeted Tuesday night that students could leave campus once they were cleared from their buildings.

Tuesday was the last day of classes, with exams to begin on Thursday.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police will lead the investigation and the FBI is assisting in the case.

A teenager has been killed and seven others injured after two pupils allegedly opened fire in a US school.

The attack at the STEM School Highlands Ranch, near Denver, Colorado, took place on Tuesday, police said. Both attackers have now been arrested.

Highlands Ranch is just 8km (5 miles) from Columbine High School - the site of one of the US's worst school shootings 20 years ago.

This is believed to be the 115th mass shooting in the US in 2019.

What happened?
Just before 14:00 local time (20:00 GMT) the attackers "walked into the STEM school, got deep inside the school and engaged students in two separate locations", Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said.

One suspect was a male youth, while the other was an adult man. Both were pupils at the school.

Mr Spurlock said the school contacted the emergency services "almost immediately", and that officers arrived at the scene about two minutes later.

The school was closed and placed on lockdown as police attended the scene. It was eventually lifted an hour later, at about 15:00 local time (21:00 GMT).

One 18-year-old male pupil was fatally shot. A handgun was later recovered at the scene.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis tweeted he would send extra police officers to the scene.

The White House also tweeted its condolences to the victims, while spokesman Judd Deere said President Donald Trump "has been briefed and continues to monitor the ongoing situation".

And another parent Steve Holley tweeted that he had been here before.

"This is the third time I've had to pick up my boys from school due to a lockdown," he wrote.
