The surgical strikes conducted in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir in September wreaked havoc on Pakistan and taught it what the Indian Army was capable of, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, in an address in Punjab.

"Our surgical strike created havoc across border. Pakistan now knows fully well what the Indian Army is capable of," said PM Modi at the inauguration ceremony of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Bhatinda.

PM Modi also brought up the issue of water-sharing and the Indus Water Treaty.

"Our farmers have the right over the water that flows through Indus. The government has formed a task force to see what can be done to make maximum use of water that flows to Pakistan under the Indus Water Treaty," he said.

He also said he would stop "every drop" of Indus water from going to Pakistan, and that he would keep it for the farmers of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and (the rest of) India.

"The fields of our farmers must have adequate water. Water that belongs to India cannot be allowed to go to Pakistan," he said.

He took a dig at previous governments, saying, "Water kept flowing into Pakistan and governments in Delhi came, went, slept, and my farmers kept crying."

The PM then had a few words of advice for India's north-western neighbor.

"Instead of waging war against India, Pakistan should fight poverty, black money (and) corruption," he said.

P.S. Video in the link above.

Well said - now he should fight poverty in his country.

Relatively he is doing better than his neighbours.

Yes relatively - that doesnt help the person who is poor

Shameful for a country with the stature of India that it should have even any poverty.

I think his concern is more the fallout from the currency withdrawal which is still causing havoc in India right now. An elderly man was trampled to death in the latest horror story coming from citizens panicking due to the action. No surprise really that Modi has tried to shift the gaze of the world onto Pakistan during these troubled times.

"Instead of waging war against India, Pakistan should fight poverty, black money (and) corruption"

The irony.

Don't know much about politics in the region, but from what I've learned when Pakistan/India gets mentioned, the politician is usually diverting attention from something else.

I'm assuming Modi is doing the same?

I was about to doubt the capabilities of Indian army but thanks to Modi for making things clear. Both sides are happy with these type of capabilities.

Wonderful capabilities displayed with proofs provided. Oh wait....

He is an attention seeking PM.

He will make a few publicity seeking measures and then make a few speeches afterwards patting himself on the back.

Maybe he should learn some humility from their last PM who never went on chest thumping missions or tweeting half the time.

He won by making big promises. Obviously he has to keep up, even if its mean lying or beating his "56 inch" chest.

To be fair, I think the withdrawal of larger denominations of bank notes was done with good intentions, he just didn't understand the blow back effects this could have on the country once panic set in. Now he's desperate to divert attention from the negative publicity at home so out comes the dastardly Pakistan spin.

It may have been good intentions but its so typical to divert attention when going gets tough.

Lifting out millions out of poverty to a decent, sustainable and dignified standard of living doesn't happen overnight. (Unless you believe in prophets, Magic, Philosopher's stone etc.)
Modi has initiated several projects will transform a developing country like India into an actual powerhouse and prevent it from falling into the middle income trap.
The Smart cities project, Jan Dhan Accounts and subsequent demonetisation, Swacch Bharat, Make in India are projects of a visionary mind. They will take time but will remove a lot of systemic impediments to growth. Most people are just looking for short term quick fixes, but true leadership is in having vision.
Nehru did it, when for a country dying for food and water, invested into generating knowledge economy. India had a rotten growth till 1991, but liberalisation worked because of the huge knowledge resource available in the country. India's space program, educational institutions are some decent examples of that.

As for stature of India, I don't live in lala land, we only overtook Pakistan in per capita GDP in this century.
The current state is still not something to be proud of. But the people are inspirational and leadership, including the usual idiocy of all political world, does give hope.

Yeah Modi ji we are completely aware of the capabilities of your armed forces. Just last week your sub was forced to surrender and had to run away with its tail between its legs. So lets not open our mouths.

Conflict created to save NS, but as always the innocent on both sides of the border die. We have a corrupt PM, they have a fascist.

Lol what did we learn?

That Indian army and government make things up and when their lie is caught they keep on believing what they want to believe regardless of evidence?

If ignorance and delusion was the aim Modi can call it a day?

The evidence of the "surgical strikes" is forthcoming.......in some Bollywood movie!!!:ma

Waisay this mention of surgical strikes is getting a little laborious. Surely Modi can tell that he nor his admin have been able to present any evidence to his people? There must be some limit to extent of trust by the people on their government?

The only reason Modi ji is not giving any evidence because it will cause a backlash in Pakistan, and the Pakistani Army, which has shown immense restraint, will be forced to do something to quell the anger in the awaam.

No we all promise to drink thanda paani before watching the video.. please release it :amir2

That is not good enough in any court of law. Without evidence there is no case.

What does Modi gain by releasing the proof? Indians already believe it and don't need a proof. Pakistanis may want a proof, but it is none of India's concern.

Of course it's your concern moreover what you gain is conclusive evidence that will shut up the Pak media. This is why even many Indian's don't believe in any such fake strikes. Okay, according to our media we have killed thrice as many as your soldiers over the past few weeks that I totally believe. As I said in any court of law a claim needs to be proved, Modi hasn't done that.

Shutting up Pak Media is of concern only to those Indians who have to face Pakistanis on forums. For rest of us patriotic indians, the word of the army and the government is more than enough. Don't care what others think.

No it's the concern of many Indian's as well in particular those aligned with Congress who don't believe in Modi's hallucinations. Well in that case we killed thrice as any as your soldiers as need not provide any evidence as well. It doesn't matter what you think, point is without evidence there is no case to answer! You mean your "fake patriotism" based on a stupid and immature media.

Tomorrow Modi will do a press conference and say India has landed a man on the sun and these "patriotic" Indians will lap it up :)))

Let us not get into evidence and all that, it is a slippery slope and I don't remember asking you for any evidence for what your media says. i have no concern with what you believe.

That is because you have no evidence. Point proved...and yes I believe our media without any evidence as well.

Did you hear the wisdom of Indian people folks!!? No evidence is required according to these people. Whatever is said becomes an undeniable fact!! I can fly, I am Superman! Don't ask me to prove it!!:kakmal

Depends on who is making the statement. If a doctor says this treatment is good for me, I wont ask for evidence. If a patriot prime minister makes a statement, that is verily the truth for me. He will never say anything that brings shame to the country.

You should ask a doctor because much of the time the diagnosis can be incorrect. Doctor's often make mistakes or perhaps put you on repeat prescription when it is not required as selling medicine is a business. Modi firstly is already an ashamed man responsible for killing Muslim's in Gujarat then has been well exposed. Secondly, patriotism has nothing to do with giving conclusive evidence at all that he has been unable to do.

That is all wonderful to read, good to know everything is getting better.

But I don't see in that case, why the need to focus on Pakistan by the great leader?

No Indians commenting on this thread cause they know how embarrassing it is. This is when Indians realize that they aren't really the good guys like their movies and media makes it out to be.

AJK surgical strikes planned after success in Myanmar: Parrikar

NEW DELHI: The Indian army was readied for its disputed surgical strikes inside Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) because an Indian TV anchor had needled the Modi government to take on Pakistan the way it claimed to have crossed into Myanmar, former defence minister Manohar Parrikar has said according to a report on Saturday.

The Indian Express said Mr Parrikar found it “insulting” that a TV anchor dared a government minister after the 2015 anti-insurgency operation along the Myanmar border to carry out a similar strike in Azad Kashmir.

Speaking before a gathering of industrialists in Panaji on Friday, Mr Parrikar, now the Goa chief minister, said: “The surgical strikes against militants [in AJK] were planned 15 months in advance.”

Thanks to a radar, 40 Pakistani firing units destroyed, claims India’s former defence minister

On June 4, 2015, north-eastern Naga militant group NSCN-K ambushed an Indian Army convoy in Chandel district of Manipur and killed 18 soldiers. Mr Parrikar said when he was informed about the incident he felt insulted.

“A small terrorist organisation of 200 people killing 18 Dogra soldiers was an insult to the Indian Army and we sat in the afternoon and sat in the evening and worked out the [plan for] first surgical strike which was conducted on 8th June morning in which about 70-80 terrorists were killed [along the India-Myanmar border].”

That was a successful strike, he said, adding that on the army’s side the only instance of an injury was a leech attaching itself to a soldier’s leg.

Contrary to some reports, no helicopters were used.

“I had placed helicopters [on standby] only in case of emergency evacuation,” he said.

“But one question [from media] hurt me. [Union minister] Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, an ex-army man, was on TV and he was explaining about all kinds of search operations. An anchor asked him, ‘Would you have the courage and capability of doing the same on the western front’,” Mr Parrikar said.

“I listened very intensely but decided to answer when the time came. The starting of September 29 [2016] surgical strike on the western border was 9th of June, 2015…. We planned 15 months in advance. Additional troops were trained. Equipment was procured on priority basis,” he said.

The Swathi Weapon Locating Radar, developed by the state-run Defence Research and Development Organisation, was used first in September 2016 to locate “firing units” of Pakistani Army, though the system was inducted officially three months later, he said.

Thanks to this radar, 40 firing units of Pakistan Army were destroyed, he claimed. Pakistan denies the incursion into its territory claimed by Indian soldiers.

This helicopter laden-commandos being lowered, wiping out ''terrorist pads'', then returning without deaths is a topi-drama. Later on they couldn't even decide which story to stick with, i.e. were there or weren't there
helicopters.

There was a BBC report a while back, basically saying this entire story as expected was nonsense. The likely story was Indian troops advancing very close to the line and in some cases just inside then firing and then retreating after retaliatory fire. I am not surprised though, Modi was under massive pressure to do something lest he look ''weak'', so this was a perfect response. Satisfy the rabid war-mongers at home while facing no threat of war from Pakistan.

Mentioning these fake "surgical strikes" on every visit abroad proves the opposite to what he is claiming. The starving Indian army is only capable of bullying Kashmiris, nothing else. Now China his giving them hassle at the border reminding them of the 1962 war as well:rp

Was watching a couple of shows from military camps close to the borders in Kashmir. When the host asked the pakistani jawan about the that fake strike he answered that indian soldiers are so "buzdil" that they even would not think about it, they are only good at firing at innocent civilians. And one of them said that after the Pak win over Ind in CT they were so frustrated that they started firing at civilians.
