Speaking to Urdu News, Ramiz fired shots as BCCI and the Indian team, clarifying that if the Rohit Sharma-led side doesn't come to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, Babar Azam's men won't be travelling to India for the World Cup next year.

“If Pakistan doesn't take part in the World Cup scheduled in India next year, who will watch it? We have a clear stand: If the Indian team comes here then we will go for the World Cup. If they don't come then they can play the World Cup without us. We will adopt an aggressive approach. Our team is showing performance. I've always said we need to improve the economy of Pakistan cricket, and that can only happen when we perform well. In the 2021 T20 World Cup, we beat India. We beat India in the T20 Asia Cup. In one year, the Pakistan cricket team defeated a billion dollar economy team twice"

they literally make billions from ipl with no Pakistanis, if u want to break ties cos of india's desire to completely marginalise Pakistan cricket, fine, but don't make outlandish claims about how pak not playing in a world cup will affect anyone other than pakistan.

This is our greatest opportunity to win world cup in india after ramiz/imran choked in 1987.

I feel current govt has been very lenienent to ramiz he will take us to wrong confrontation route with icc by boycotting the world cup
 
India should also play Tournaments in Pakistan.Its not fair , cricket should be kept away from Politics. OD cricket is dying and India Pakistan 5 match OD series in both countries every alternate year can breathe life into this format.

I'm fine with them drawing a line in the sand on this occasion. The world is touring Pakistan so India should not be able to flat out refuse without any consequences.

Right now we have a decently performing team and the recent games vs India have been exciting. If we don't go then Pakistan will be missed. We have some leverage if not much.

Wake up everybody and smell the coffee.
Do you not want to host Asia cup or any other major tournament in Pakistan? Well, you can’t do it without India visiting you and they’re being extremely obnoxious and refusing to visit Pak for no reason what so ever. India had agreed to Pak hosting Asia cup many years, so what happened now?? This Indian propaganda needs to be put to bed asap and I’m glad the PCB is showing backbone.

God forbid, if Asia cup gets moved out to UAE or it gets cancelled, it would be a big big blow to all the momentum Pak has gained by hosting Aus and Eng recently. We cannot afford to do this. It’s much more important than any WC to have world teams visit Pakistan regularly.

Pak should absolutely boycott the WC if India boycotts the Asia cup. It’s not about effecting India. It’s about sending a statement to the World Cup that PAK WILL PLAY ITS HOME GAMES/TOURNAMENTS IN PAKISTAN!!

What other options does Ramiz Raja have to ensure Pakistan does not lose hosting rights to major tournaments?? Can someone provide an alternative please.

Yup! It’s not just leverage on India. It’s a stance you’re taking. If you let them walk all over you today, then you are basically saying we are giving up hosting rights to all major tournaments right? You can’t host ICC events in future either. So this Indian stance should be completely unacceptable or Pak will suffer very grave consequences.

I hope Ramiz is the chairman when the time comes, and I hope he stands by his words. The "Aanay Do" hypocrites should not be allowed to dictate terms. Any financial loss (upwards of 1 rupee) rendered to BCCI is reason enough, even if we suffer huge losses.

He'll have a lot of resistance from Pakistanis though, because useless things like winning matches are more important than nationalism for this confused crowd, and they often mask their inner identity crisis with excuses like "we are rational and have big hearts". Well, see a doctor if you have cardiomegaly.

Ideally PCB should host Asia Cup in Pak with or without India and then travel to India with a written confirmation from BCCi that they will send a team to Pak in 2025 ICC champions Trophy. But with Pak taking this action they will not get an opportunity to host any ICC tournaments in near future if they boycott a whole WC.

Bad Idea.
Ok, IPL is the biggest and richest t20 league without Pakistan. World cup in India will at least do a little better than IPL.
Not participating in an event like the World cup will be suicidal for Pakistan Cricket.
If India doesn't come for Asia Cup that is fine. Just make the best of it without them. Infact PCB should try to get Austraila & NZ to come. so it can be an Austral Asia Cup.
Ramiz needs to grow up.

That Pak will host Asia Cup was also a written confirmation.
If India is not going to visit Pakistan, then what difference does it make if ICC will not give Pak any hosting rights? It’s not happening either way.

India wont be travelling to Pakistan bcoz Govt of India wont give permission. There is nothing BCCI can do. The fact that last 2 editions of Asia cup has been successfully played in neutral venues, PCB is coming across as bit of a nuisance. This '*** for tat' attitude that Ramiz is adopting is childish from head of cricket.

2023 WC will be in India, with or without pakistan. Pakistan should try the same for Asia cup and 2025 CT.

India can then host 3 more ICC events without Pakistan.

Well done ramiz Bhai...seems like this time he is serious and walk the talk. As india won't travel to Pakistan for Asia cup ,Pakistan will not travel to India. Pakistan should focus on 2024 T20 wc instead.
 
India started this, not Pakistan, so why exactly is Pakistan getting the blame here? It wasn't Ramiz Raja who said India wouldn't come to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, it was Jay Shah. Retaliating by refusing to tour for the 2023 World Cup is a credible threat.
Everyone saying "India doesn't need this, Indian cricket will be fine with those who come" are right...but you're ignoring the larger consequences. The ICC can't afford for there to be no Pakistan vs. India match. The ICC can't afford for Pakistan, with its large viewership base, to not be playing teams in the world cup. This isn't the IPL where the BCCI and IPL owners could simply make a unilateral move not to bring players from Pakistan and they'd be fine because the main audience for the IPL...is Indian. The ICC will have to come up with some kind of resolution for this alongside the ACC because they are the ones that will get hammered.
As far as Pakistan is concerned, security has been repeatedly proven fine. England has toured and is touring again. Australia toured. Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Bangladesh, many countries of some cricketing significance have toured. India can't make that claim anymore.
If I were to propose a solution that makes both Pakistan and India happy-let India off the hook, host the Asia Cup in Pakistan without them, but in return-Pakistan will be given the right to host all 2023 world cup matches for Pakistan in Pakistan. That should more than make up for the revenue loss from not having India play in Pakistan, as now instead of hosting just Asia cup matches, there will be a strong group of upper tier sides that will be playing in Pakistan for the World Cup, including England, Australia, etc.
Alternatively, the Indian government excuse can be made to go away-by the Indian leadership declaring publicly that India may tour Pakistan.

Will Pakistan actually boycott the World Cup? I doubt it.

I think the broadcaster (Star Sports) needs India to play. That’s why BCCI will play the Asia cup and get the India/Pakistan game in, and that’s why Jay Shah didn’t say “you guys go ahead without us”.

It’s a tricky situation. I think India will have to bite the bullet this time and just let things go smoothly by playing the Asia cup and Pakistan reciprocating with participation in the World Cup in India

$3.2bn .

Pakistan and rest of the asia territory wont make even 10 percent of that. So this pakistan cannot be ignored due to India Pakistan match is a false propaganda of pakistan. Pakistan doesn't generate much revenue for ICC. That's the fact and it will be conclusively proven when the bid amount for pakistan territory of ICC rights is revealed in near future.

India isn't visiting without govt clearance. And that clearance is anybody's guess.

No. We should absolutely do everything we can to support India in fulfilling their obligations.

Any and all stops should be pulled to try and ensure India have safe passage and can play in Pakistan.

We should also look to do everything we can to play the ICC events in India if the above goes ahead.

Let's be clear, we want normal cricketing relations. India are the ones trying to complicate matters by picking and choosing what they will play.
 
Enough is enough , if Pakistan doesn't participate in next year WC, ICC will cancel India's hosting rights for subsequent WCs, will be moved to some neutral venues . A country cannot host world cup if its government is not supporting.

PCB is in a better position now to take the right stand .

Jay Shah's reaction to Raja's original threat showed it was credible. His words were something like "absolutely not, all countries are coming to India for the World Cup!"
End of day Pakistan must do what is best for Pakistan. The more matches PK hosts, the more tournaments, the more money PCB will make in the long run. This isn't the Pakistan of five years ago, the last five years have been filled with many positive strides for Pakistani cricket, despite a global pandemic disrupting things. Rights and ratings are on an upswing. It is India's choice to play politics with sport.
 
I agree we should not go to India for the World Cup, but seriously Rambo, why act like such a fool.

Have some dignity, you’re in a role where you need to maintain some semblance of statesmanship. He’s acting like a child again. All he had to do was make a simple, dignified, stately and strong statement and he gives us his masala media level trash.

Its laughable to think that ICC will move events out of India, because pakistan refuses to come. Who will pay the bills? PCB?

The broadcasters for both Asia Cup and the World Cup be sweating right now, because no matter how much people like to spin it - India v Pakistan in these tournaments constitute a big chunk of money of the TV rights.

Interesting to see if Ramiz is just playing the crowd here or will actually follow up on this ‘threat’.

They will also lose the proportionate share of ICC revenue.

Pakistan also lose if India don't come for Asia Cup as they won't turn up for any future ICC events either.

I agree that no WC will stop without Pakistan's participation but it won't be the same either. Maybe Pakistan will take the most losses but other parties will not escape damage either.

Of course this is easily solved by India playing in the Asia Cup, or least ensuring a solution is met which Pakistan are satisfied with. I'm sure there'll be some increased efforts towards those outcomes now.

I say again. PCB want normal cricketing relations. BCCI are playing political games (maybe not out of choice). There is clearly only one side in the wrong here whether that means anything to you or not.

been banned, india won’t play any cricket in Pakistan but here some genius wants our team to play WC in india like a beghaarat, smh 🤦🏽*♂️

If Pak government denies Pak from visiting India for the WC2023, would India change their venue to UAE?

India will deprive Pakistani fans from seeing international teams compete on Pakistani grounds.

Before, there were no teams traveling so it made sense. But now that Eng, Aus, SL, SA and WI have all visited Pak, Pak is no longer under any obligation to go and play their home cricket in neutral venues.
India should stop this propaganda and visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup. If not, Pakistan should continue with Asia Cup anyway without India. You cannot Expect Pak to show up and entertain your crowds either. Let’s play fair.

BCCI is a bully and a third class cricket board. Not a single person in India has guts to go to their goverment and say the right thing. Just listen to their posters here, they are always defending BCCI and their actions. They don't really love cricket and are hell-bent on killing this game. I am with Ramiz on this one. If they can't play the Asia cup in Pakistan, then why should we go there for the next Odi world cup. Enough with this nonsense
