1st Test | West Indies v Australia | Bridgetown

West Indies made a complete hash of this test. Yesterday with Aus 322/9, Windies looked set to gain an important 100+ first innings lead and push for a win. But as Aussies often do, they somehow managed to wrest the initiative back from WI

Now it is they (Windies) who have to save this match

192 runs in 62.2 overs should not be too difficult of a chase for Australia

Aus 22/0 (5.3 overs)

There is no way they will get 60 overs in though.

Every day has finished aerly through rain or light (remember it is the umpires call now, not batsmans).

We will see 50-55 overs max.

Fidel Edwards has the makings of a good bowler, Great whippy action and has pace as well.

He's been around long enough, he is poor really. He is not consistent enough to be a good test bowler.

His average of 37 says it all.

Sure he can produce a good burst here or there but there is no sustained menace over several spells like Hilfenhaus or Harris.

Yeah but he looks talented enough, But some never deliver fully i guess.

Why is Jeff Thompson in commentary box and not in India coaching an IPL team?

Aussies should have opened with Watto.

Anyways just 9 wickets left, go windies :)

Sammy gets far too much hate for the amount of effort and results he puts up.

This is when I question the amber light and the whole DRS system. I like Gouldy but that was probably out. It was even essentially out on Howler-Eye. It's as if umpires judge original appeals on their own safety.

Btw it was Geoff Lawson on the commentary, not Jeff Thompson.

Run rate climbing, remember there is no way they will fit 50 more overs in today- they will get 40-45 more max.

thats the whole point i guess. umpire's decision should remain. that 95-97% statistic is for the matching with umpire's decision. its not considered whether the umpire's decision was right/not in the first place.

howlers are eliminated but these small things which could change a match get swept under the rug.

well it effectively shrinks the stump area by a considerable margin if you remove half a ball width the whole way around.

Another batsmans rule...

Cowan dropped by Baugh standing up to the stumps :( Really tough chance.

Second and last review gone wahhhhh.

They're bowling well though.

From a bowler's perspective... It's pretty stupid. Most balls that clip a stump will disturb the bails.

Whoops, Similar sounding names i guess.

Watson dropped in the gully

Could have had 3 down by now. Got to be one of the worst fielding sides

Sammy must be the most mercurial cricketer in the world, Bowls terrifically well one over, Then proceeds to hand the opposition the initiative through a dropped catch. How many times has it happened already?

Yeah, apparently he dropped Dravid in India & cost them a test.

On WI bowling: next test Rampaul needs to come in for Edwards.

edwards can be brilliant. but he goes into "meltdown" phase too often. at 29, he should have been more in control of his bowling.

fidel waywards indeed.

Sammy might get a ban for this overrate. Though Clarke deserves a fine for his share earlier on as well.

Australia's really pushing Pakistan to the worst run chase. What are they doing? Do they even realise that bad light is on the horizon.

131 needed in 30-odd overs if you take away bad light.

I guess they'll go for it after the break

We want to win the match, not draw it. Pup has shown he is willing to lose the match for a chance to win it. They've given themselves a great opportunity to win, and to demonstrate that a) a Test match requires you to play well for FIVE days; and b) the OZ will never lay down and give up. We still have control of our destiny.

seems different now.

So how many overs left if we consider that there'll be bad light later?

Cricinfo says 100 minutes. Does that mean 20-25 overs??

^^
add to that delaying and defensive tactics from windies and you get an almost certain draw unless watson goes "ax crazy" on them.

That's the right thing to do. No body wants to lose. :misbah

So 20 overs it is, acc to cricinfo.

:four

Australia looks to have good plans post tea. Me believe, they can get this total.

Sammy very defensive. He should be trying to get 9 aussie wickets to win the game.

Australia cantering home now that there are no slips

Cowan seems rubbish really. Unadaptable player who doesn't look like he'll hit centuries on a consistent basis. Looks terribly average.

Hughes at least looked very talented, already with a couple of centuries to his name. Rated him, and think he'll be back soon.

cowan's gonna draw this for the aussies. Ridiculous play by him really.

Too right. Pedro Collins was another red-hot or below-freezing bowler. A left armer who could actually swing it back into the right-handers. Between them they ensured that Vaughan averaged 20 in one series.

As much as I respect Sammy, looks like his drop of Watto has cost Windies a chance of winning...

Cowan gone. About time too.

Sammy needs to get some men around the bat.

Narsingh needs support.

lol deonarine. ricky brought back to earth after cashing in on indian net bowlers.

Ponting got hit on the helmet by Yadav 2-3 times as was Warner. It was Clarke who got pies specially from the tall one.
He is Out know.
Note. Clarke has a poor record in such chases. gets out more often .

I expect Windies to lose a close game and the usual Sammy speech saying that they are improving.

Windies of this age lacks killer punch. They get into position where they can win the game and some how choke it away.

omg!![/] I just put 20 Euro I had left on the offchance they win because I was sure of recuperating from Australias win. So if Aus win I get 305 Euro and if they lose 945 Euro. heh heh.
Go DeoNarine you beauty you

yadav and possibly zak were the only two bright spots for india. ashwin was poor. ishant was pathetic.

main reason was batting which failed from all sides except probably sachin and in the end virat.

Sammy is Wayyyy better than your cool captain who doesn't even try many times.
