3 Idiots

Absolutely loved this movie. The comedy isn;t gpoing to make you laugh out loue but the subtle and corny humor is enjoyable./ Also send out a niuce message about the education system and the need for reform.

Loved the scene when Joy sings the song about getting another chance. Made me miss the days of being a worry free child.

The last 5 Bollywood movies I've seen (Wanted, Ghajni, All The Best, De Dhana Dhan, and 3 Idiots) have lived up to the hype and have been enjoyable. Skipped movies such as Kurbaan and APKGH based on the advice of friends who had seen them.

Missed the opening titles so did not know who the producer/director were but about twenty minutes into it and it was Munnabhai MBBS with engineering students replacing medical ones.
The feel of the movie characteristic of earlier ventures of messrs Hirani and Chopra.

Still throughly enjoyable but certainly not original.

And how that makes me unpatriotic? :13:
Well I was just kidding ... but there are people on PP infact on this very thread who consider Bollywood as anti-Pakistan. Well some even go to the extent of calling it anti-islamic and all.

I dont know how it resembles Munnabhai MBBS. Yes there is a student trying to tell profs the right way to teach. but thats it!!

Munnabhai is all about a tapori getting into med school. Dean trying to expose him and get rid of him while the hero outsmarts him each time.

3I is about a student who is brilliant and has a non-traditional outlook towards study.

If Munnabhai was an eye-opener for Drs, 3I was an eye-opener for Indian parents who want their children to be either Dr or an engineer.

I watched this yesterday and thought it was utter rubbish.

I think Aamer Khan is a fine actor and I have watched quite a few of his films over the years. This film however made me cringe and at times it was embarassing.

I could see the message that the film was trying to portray, but the unfunny comedy attempts turned the film into a farce.

I thought the acting from the professor was the only good thing about the film.

I watched it today after everyone was saying, I should watch this movie, because it is the best movie of the year. I could not believe that this is the best movie of the year and everybody is going crazy for this movie.

This was a total garbage and waste of time, no real joke or story, acting was lame, bad songs, nothing to cheer about.

Munna Bhai is the best comedy movie.

Care to explain why? You seem to be the only person I've found to claim this.

I did not watch the movie, but read the plot.

The plot of this movie is just the usual pandering that goes on by the media and is well received by many. "Follow your passion. If your parents who push you to succeed academically then they are bad people".

Note, my parents pushed me very hard to succeed academically and as I result I approximately earn 10X more than I would have earned without my academic degrees. Thank you Ma and Baba.

You're serious right ?

Dev D is okay. But the rest are quite average.

I guess we can agree to disagree and I’m serious .. I do think 3 Idiots is awesome but is massively overrated because of China as well..

Its an excellent film. The highest rated Bollywood film on IMDB, and that's some accolade.

It also speaks to multi-generations; my 15 year old loves it, as well as my mother. And it hasnt dated at all in the last decade.

Not really. Plenty of people think it is overhyped. For starters, I don’t think it is a bad movie, but is a one-time watch comedy and not the timeless iconic film some make it to be.

The movie is a caricature of what life in an engineering college is like in India or even in Pakistan. It resorts to extremes and lazy stereotypes to make its point.

The lead character Rancho tops exams in an extremely competitive institution even though he has no respect for conventional education. Even Einstein will all his knowledge won’t pass a physics exam if he doesn’t answer conventionally.

In one of the exams, one of the idiots was late to submit the answer sheet to the examiner who didn’t know his name. Rancho throws all the papers on the ground so that his friend won’t lose marks for late submission. A stunt like this will guarantee expulsion in any institution anywhere in the world, but they get away with it.

The “All is well” was corny. At one point, it even calmed a newborn who was delivered by the 3 idiots themselves. It wasn’t the only occasion the movie basically became a parody of itself.

The movie had a good message which it presented in a poor way. There was no reason to create a completely ridiculous and over the top character like Chatur to make the point that rote learning and grade-hunting are negative traits.

The movie suffered from exaggerations and forced humor to the point where it came across as a parody rather than a genuine attempt to spread a good message.

The reason why the movie became huge was because Amir Khan was at the peak of his stardom because of TZP and to an extent Ghajini, and 3 Idiots simply capitalized on that momentum and was released in the right era.

In isolation, it is nothing more than a half-decent comedy that is good a few laughs but something you will forget about the next morning.

Then you could not understand the message of the film my dear.

Ranjo advised his friends to fearlessly pursue their interests and strive for excellence.

Success isn't all about money.

Besides some people hit the money boat much earlier in their career whereas some other fields require years and years of patience efforts before ultimate reward and recognition.

Most overrated Bollywood movie of all time.

I know why you say that.

I guess everything has a time.

I'm context of India in 2008, it was a great film.

Every teenager/college going student could relate to the film.

Besides the movie was a bit a roller coaster ride

There is a very strong criticism of parents in the movie as they push their children to succeed academically. That is just pandering.

I opened this thread thinking it was about Zardari, NShareef, and Fazal Ur Rehman.

It was actually copied (surprise, surprise) from this

which was copied from this original ad

Definitely overrated. Decent movie that got much love from masses but it's far from the best movie ever.
If you want to see movie with "follow your passion" message then watch 90's aptly titled movie of the director kundan shah's "kabhi haan kabhi naa" starring young srk in a lead role. It is bit musical because lead character is part of the music band but it's worth a watch.

It's not.

Movie isn't anti parents or anti education.

Ranjo himself studied the most and kept topping the class because unlike his other friends learning was his passion. While his friends studied out of fear to get a good job Ranjo studied for the sheer joy of knowledge.

And going after your passion totally makes sense given you have a realistic idea of how far you can take that talent and make a living out of it.

A movie based on chetan bhagat's (proud to have never touched his crap books) book is considered a great movie. Shows how intellectually bankrupt the bollywood worshippers are. This gutter class movie industry and the monkey class fans both deserve each other.

LOL! You got a guy who boasts he earns 10x more compared to a guy living on the breadline, and is talking about a movie which he admits he has not seen.

Then you wonder what is wrong in this world.

Honestly, some people take movies too seriously. Nice to see the usual - lifting opinions from IMDB! [Select movie, click reviews, select 1 star. Then enjoy! It will be a a case of Deja vu!

As for the movie, I am happy to watch any movie that feels uplifting, and I thought 3 Idiots was good family fun!

I think this was a great movie. It reminded me of my uni friends. It also has some nice moral messages too.
I dont know many movies in Bollywood that deal with uni life to this extent.

There are better or more iconic movies out there, but IMO this still is a great movie. Its much better than watching a half naked Salman Khan showing off his muscles
