What's new

3rd Test: England v South Africa at Lord's, Aug 16-20, 2012 | Day 3

i predicted yetserday target will be more than 400...people didnt believed

If Amla and Kallis were batting at the moment, it was a possibility. Finn bowled well! Swann has been handled very well. With pitch getting more and more rip, it was a rare possibility but wasn't impossible.

we will see

only Finn bowling well...how much ober he can bowl ?

What a fascinating test match. This is the level of competition I wanted to see when our losers went there.

exactly ...except for 1st test England fought well even though they will end as losers..same apply for UAE series also

sadly we cant tell same for our team...but we can understand its diffciult motivate after high of N0 1 and WC success

we wil; be back and thrash everyone in front of us for atleast next 2 years

Our bowlers bowled very well in 2nd test as well without best bowler. Our batsman failed to capitalize.

i am talking about 0-8

mainly because all major players lost form at same time..same is happening with England now [if one of Anderson,Broad or Swan supported Finn SA should have allout before 250]

I don't think South Africa are going fast enough tbh.

No need to. England needs to win the match, so if they have to chase a target at 4+ per over then there's a good chance that they will get out taking a risk.

I think England would rather play for the draw in that case, with the fewer overs remaining.

What you're suggesting is what could have happened at Headingley - when they sent KP to bat up the order during the 4th innings. Those moves never work, however good they look on paper.

Carton Baugh did exactly that against VVS in WI. So much for spirit of cricket eh? :))

Prior pulling an Alec Stewart.

Swann was grateful as he can't buy a wicket these days.

I will be really angry at Tahir if he doesn't use this pitch right by lending the ball at good line-length with turn.

346 to win, England will need to make history but there's enough time to do it.

346 runs to win!

England playing for win or draw, it's SA game to lose. Well they won't lose but either way, they have a chance to win this test.

Gary has a great chance at trolling england further. Opposition coach appoints team's player of the series. Gary can select KP. Can't think of any one else really. Finn for 1 test but if they lose it I doubt he will snag it. KP did save em a test.

I see an embarrassment around the corner with Cook gone early and Strauss being Morkel's bunny

It ain't over still. 9 pins yet to fall. But a realist would say English chances are slim to zilch

I will keep a recording on hand for this match every time I go and talk to a Pom

Just woke up, congrats to SA for basically winning already!

Poor batting from our lads for most of the series. Absolute poor decision making.

Just keep bowling out side off to Trott, he will give one dolly to slip in no time. Well I am sure SA knows this but still couldn't resist :))

England have looked pretty ordinary for most part in this series. Swann's lack of effectiveness has been decided and the difference in the pace attacks has been exposed. I am afraid sometimes playing against weak sides does not translate into performances against top ones. Anderson, Broad had a feast getting easy wickets against Pakistani batsmen but got exposed against South Africans.

Genius keeping from Prior for that stumping, and a decent spell from Finn.

But that's about all the positives to take from the day. Outplayed again. This is a new ball wicket, and I believe that England will finally succumb to the second.

that prior stumping was a carbon copy of stewart stumping lara in a sharjah tournament. Are English keepers taught this or something? :yk

Strauss could be resigning here. A minor annihilation.

In 2010, yes. In the recent UAE series, not so much since Misbah XI has demonstrated enough in the past year and a half they are not a particularly easy batting line up to roll over. Only England and WI have managed to bowl them out twice in a match (Misbah was banned from the recent Galle Test and Prof was skipper there). Yes, Pakistan still doesn't have a great batting unit by any means, in that the tail is weak since Tanvir Ahmed was unfairly dumped (and arguably Adnan isn't the best #7, though he is okay with the bat) and they generally only score at 2 rpo rather than take it to the opposition KP style (playing within their limitations, fair enough). However, Pakistan top-order wickets since October 2010 have not normally been "easy" ones... in Tests, that is. ODI is another matter entirely.

malakian has a disturbingly masochistic desire to be proven wrong every time. he comes here every series acts smug gets owned. rinse and repeat. i cant find any possible explanation other than this.

of course if england win from here(even a deal with lucifer wont save em but still..), england deserve the #1 status and we will have to tolerate the "mahn". but i think they have 0.00001% chance. never count weird stuff out i say.

All signs seem to indicate that his time is nearing to an end. There has been quite a bit of criticism about his captaincy in this series, and his batting has been under close scrutiny for a while now. He may have bought himself a few games after the WI series, but if it doesn't come after this series, then he may have one last chance in the series against India to prove himself as both batsman and captain.

It would add the ultimate insult to injury if it happens! :yk

Two questions to English fans:-

1) What do you think about England's chances in this match??

2) Now that Strauss's resignation are making rounds, who will KP have to talk with after this match ends??:zoni

:19:

England need 330 in 90 over at 3.66 rpo with 8 wickets in hand in a match where overall run rate has been 2.86.

It would be one of the greatest win, if England wins this.

England have nothing to lose now; they should go out all guns blazing.
