What's new

3rd Test: England v South Africa at Lord's, Aug 16-20, 2012 | Day 3

Although I want SA to win here, but how funny would it be if SA manage to choke again here :P

Well well well, 125 needed with 3 Wickets in hand to win in the last session.

Smoking hot prediction!

I'll be honest about one thing. The reason Tahir made me happy was that he made Smith attacking. It wasn't that he made it happen, it just did. I guess that's what having a leg spinner in the side naturally does. But now, this is pathetic. He's bowling a Paul Haris line of attack (And mind you, doing it pretty well) but that's not what he should be in the side for.

'Tahir made Smith attacking' LOL LOL LOL

Now I've got that off me chest... Thrilling final session in prospect.

England to lose by 70 runs. The grandmaster of chokes is not quite on, but England at least tried to force it.

#jinx

If I were Prior, I would tee-off here. What's the worst that can happen?

'coz he's being a touch too defensive for my liking.

Prior played the anchor role to allow Broad to contribute, because Broad only contributes when he is teeing off. I expect Prior to do the same again for Swann, because Swann is the same as Broad. If we lose Swanny, Jimmy will play the anchor role for Matty. If we lose Matty, well game over really.

To be honest this would be hard to win if it was 321/7. 221/7 is impossible, or close to that.

Anderson is a permanent nightwatchman in their line-up, so I presume he can hold a bat and be defensive for a while if he wants to.

Finn however, is one of those whom you refer to as "bunnies".

How is Finn as a batsman? I know Jimmy can bat a bit.

He supported Prior well against Pakistan once.

Anyways, the wicket of Broad in the end just makes things South Africa's way. England should be double-minded on whether to play for a win or a draw. I think they should just attack and go for the win.

But I back South Africa to win this.

Finn as a batsman lol.

Shame for England that Broad got out. With him on form it was approaching even stevens. South Africa have probably won it there.

England won't last 33 overs, so a draw is impossible. If they try batting out, the three remaining wickets will fall.

That said, there're only 125 to get, so they should make an effort to get as close as possible.

And we've seen how the Saffas get when there's a bit of pressure around.

England have made is this far - one final aggressive push.

125 with 3 wickets in a session is more than probable.

If England win this then they are worthy of Rank #1.

Yes Broad still at the crease after tea would have made things interesting. But now they need an epic SA choke to win this. The prospect is mouthwatering :P

This would be the choke to end all chokes.

Forget missing out on the number one rank; SA should be forced to apply for readmission to international cricket (again) if they somehow lose from here.

Back to back fours to Swann. Two fine pull strokes.

Utter garbage bowling from Tahir. Four more to Matty.

You've got to be kidding me, South Africa.

The moment England look up at the scorecard and see they need only 60 or 70 more, they're not going to give it up.

If South Africa are going to take the three remaining wickets, the time is now.

You're not going to get anyone out LB if you bowl five feet leg-side of the crease.

New ball's still to come Marshy. It always gets wickets on this pitch.

if saffers contrive to lose from here one could assume its a bcci conspiracy so that indians dethrone england themselves....:moyo

Yeah, the new ball. Matty should be facing as many balls as he can when that comes on.

Hopefully not a repeat of the first innings - Matty plays out the old ball comfortably to shepherd his less skilled partner, and then promptly spoons the first delivery from the new ball to slip.

But that happened on the following morning - a different kind of change in mindset.

Roffle.

Even if we lose this has been pretty entertaining.

Tahir forgot he can bowl on the other side of wicket too.Very bad bowling. Well played Matt!

Out with ya', Tahir and Kallis.

Bring on the pace. Dale and Vernon, blow them away y'all!

This is why Swann is such a valuable all-round cricketer

81 needed now. 30 more runs from this pair will make things interesting.

SA still slightly ahead.

Haven't felt like this in a long time watching cricket

:four

Tahir has got to rank as one of poorer test bowlers of recent years. Utter strudel.

Runs coming at an extremely quick pace. If these two bat another 10 or so overs, England will have virtually won.
