3rd Test: England v South Africa at Lord's, Aug 16-20, 2012 | Day 3

BBC Test Match Special's Jonathan Agnew

On Twitter: "Too much short stuff at Steyn. Plays it well. Stating the obvious, but England need to get him out asap."

:)) #clueless

Just goes to show how important fielding is. This is the first summer where England's fielding standards have seriously dropped in tests (but oddly they remain first-rate in ODIs...)

Prior's chance was a bit more difficult, Jimmy's one was a dolly.

Every day increases my suspicion (first noted on PakPassion in February) that for various reasons - Cook as captain and top batsman being a major one - England are now a better LOI than test side!!

What a choke by Jimbo :kallis

SA already have a lot of runs, they just need Rudolph, Duminy and Philander to put together 50 or so and the game is pretty much over.

better Strauss retire after this match....his captaincy is too defensive [ so does all other captains barring Clarke may be]

< 270 is slightly possible but anything more and it's curtains.

I agree with you. But I believe it's also because England don't have a burden (Strauss) in LOI's.

@BD- As simple as the chances we dropped when we toured there in 2010

How was the drop? Was it a sitter?

Was a dolly, should have held onto it but it went through his hands and hit his chest.

England's highest successful chase to win a match at this ground is 218. The lead is 38 runs away from that.

Wrong. They made 282 when Strauss was on debut

The awkward moment when SA feel compelled to choose KP as England's Man of the Series because he was the only player that performed

Who gets our Man of the Series if not KP? A thoroughly depressing season

England by dropping these two have allowed 80+ runs to be added. So they deserve to lose, which they shall.

What's up with Strauss' field? No slips and 4 fielders on the boundary?

England missed the trick in the first innings when they had SA on mat at 64 / 4 ............that was a big slip.

Don't know how play was allowed to continue under that light, and how Finn was allowed to bowl under it.

Game's in SA's pocket now. I expect Smith to declare at some point tomorrow morning, when their lead is at 450 or so :kallis

as i predicting from yesterday..game is now becoming totally one sided

lead will be over 400 and England will bowl out for less than 240

thats one and another is England 215/5 so they sillped from there

Amla and AB dropped ...

any way i wanted a good match..looks like this will end as i expected not hoped..better spend time on somehting else

Amla out so there is still hope for England. But in worst case scenario SA will get 300 lead which is good enough i think.

Amla gone for 121.

Game is still South Africa's unless they lose 5-10

De Villiers gone now. Maybe a sniff for England

How the hell where they picking Bresnan over this guy?!

Two new batsmen at the crease. Now or never for England. I hope these two can get another 40 or so runs and then the tail hits out, we'll have a great end to this game then.

Congrats to Amla for his ton. Good time for him to get it on Eid.

If Eng. all out SA like in 10 runs then only then they have chances. More than 30 runs, no chance.

Tahir will be watching Swann keenly. Pitch seems to be turning a bit.

Perfect time for a tullaybaaz pinch hitter to increase the lead :gul

SA needs one!

South Africa already have enough. They'll win by a mile even if they declare now.

I love it how when the English drop catches (which they have done this series ... a LOT) it's written off every time as an aberration on an otherwise professional team. If Pakistan drop one it's likely they'll drop another four ... but we're not consistently dropping dollies match after match.

Finns brilliant spell has decreased the chance of a draw which looked likely half hour back. SA should play for runs and reach for that 300 runs lead. With 630 finish and early start tomorrow, a result is possible.

England lack positive batsmen, and with the pitch taking turn they have their work cut out. Time for tahir to finally prove his worth.
