What's new

4fer from Shaheen Shah Afridi & 88 from Fakhar Zaman help Pakistan level series with a 6 wicket win

Wow, just taking a look at Fakhar's career stats and in UAE, he has a 21.27 average with 77.74 SR in 12 matches with 0 fifty's. Has done pretty great away from "home" so far.

He'll improve that over time I think... just needs to be more selective with his aggression in UAE.

Pakistan look a different side when Fakhar performs.

No wonder he looks like a bag of nerves these days, he know if he fails its curtains for Pakistan. The rest of the bats are just there to cash hefty paycheque.

The problem with Imam is not his strike rate but his strokeplay. With good range of shots strike rates can be managed.

There is no problem, that is how he plays. You can't compare the rest of the world openers with pakistan openers. These are the products coming out of our system so support it.

He was also overshadowed by KW and Baz’s batting in the UAE last time but was really impressive.

Well obviously. KW and Baz were already established leaders in batting. This kid is new but barring something unforeseen, should have a very successful international career and be NZ's next big batsman.

Because while his game has impressed what's impressed me more is his temperament. He looks very tough mentally.

Because it is a one man batting line up as we saw in the CT. Without his knocks in each game we wouldn't have won the tournament.

Aman why matt henry is not playing.he is better than fergusan.

We need one more specialist batsman in the side.

If you are not a boundary hitter its difficult to rotate strike as fielders move in knowing the batman is not a boundary hitter. This is where Imam has to improve and hit an occasional boundary but whats good about him is that he doesnt lose his wicket early which he should maintain.

It seems like someone drafted a master plan of Pak side and said one opener will play test match irrespective of format and we keep following that script :))
sab k zahno ma aik baat bua aap ka aik opener aisa hona chahy jo slow khailta ho, rubbish and nonsense.

It's a 3 PM start means by the time 2nd innings starts dew already had started. It wasn't a big factor in Asia cup in SEP, but now we are in NOV. Still, I am sure if Ken wins the 3rd toss, he'll bat first - Kiwis won't chase much against 30 overs of spin.

Yeah probably true. It wasn't a big factor in last match either but i think in this match there seems to be significant difference.

A struggling FZ is racing at twice pace of Imam!!!!! This is an ideal situation for Imam to justify his spot statistically - hope he keeps uncle's face here, his partner has done his job even easier.

Imam playing for himself and his average while fakhar has to do bulk of the scoring.

Williamson's captaincy really makes me scratch my head sometimes

What should he do? Kiwis are missing Santner, hence he is trying to take spin away from 2 lefties when the ball is dry. I am sure Mac or Fleming would have gone same here.

Should go off and have checked for concussion...

Yikes, I hope he is okay. Probably should do tests to make sure he doesn't have a concussion.

If Pakistan win this by ten wickets in 40 overs then maybe, just maybe they can talk about their batting having done well.

Doesn’t really matter if pitch is conducive to stroke play or now.
End of the day - this game if Pakistan win, is set up by bowlers and does little to reassure me about our batting woes.
Expect malik and or hafeez to play big role in victory since there is no scoreboard pressure. It’s a pattern we have against better teams: we win through these two guys when chasing 200 to 220

Yeah a 10 wicket win would be very satisfying and professional!

I hope Imam-ul-Haq is okay. He's doing well regarding the context. We are not chasing a huge total so he can afford to take his time.

Imam should realize that he is not quick enough to play a hook shot on a bouncer.

Good decision to go off, concussion cannot be taken lightly hope we do not require his services for rest of the mathc.

Imam looks concussed, doesn't look like he knows where he is. Balance is off too.

He must be taken to Hospital immediately, what they are waiting for?? - Does not look ok, even on sideline...

That was a nasty blow, quick well directed bouncer! he was reluctant to go but thankfully they took him off. Inshallah he will recover soon.

I hope, Babar doesn't get out to Ken today - then regular pacers will start to bowl off spin against him next time.

Imam needs to be shown the door makes shan masood into Graeme Pollock.

If Sharjeel hadn’t sold his soul for a few rupees pak would have had an excellent opening combo!!

i can't imagine batsmen facing 95mph+ bouncers from shoaib akhtar where here they are struggling to tackle 88-90mph

Imam's eyes looked out of sort (looked like he became temporary behnga) after that bouncer. Needs to get checked immediately. Head injuries are no jokes

Sharjeel
Babaar
Fakhar
Umar Akmal
Harris
Sarfaraz

This would have been ideal top 6 for pakistan , followed by couple of all rounders.

This is Pakistan's first ODI win against a good team in 10 attempts. This is the true capability of this team - a success factor of 25% - 30% over a large sample of games against teams like India, England, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia etc.

How else would people like to describe this win? And why does everyone expect me to wax lyrical about this team that does and will continue to lose more than half of its matches against the top half teams?

People did not like the word fluke, and they seem to have a problem with the Law of Averages phenomenon as well. If they expect me to celebrate and rejoice at lowering the losing percentage from 100% to 90%, it is not going to happen. I am not going to ignore the true capabilities of this mediocre team because they had a good day.

You are a bundle of joy arent you?
just enjoy the match.....

Would you guys blame Inzi for Imam's injury? Before his selection in Pak team, we all knew that Imam has good FC cricket credentials but average LOI cricket credentials. Yet Inzi selected Imam for ODIs and now the poor boy has to play against his natural game by trying to play fast against better bowlers in ODIs. In Test cricket Imam would have ducked this bouncer.

Imam might be slow but it is not like we are blessed with dynamic openers. Would take Imam over Farhan 100%.

Dude that's too much of nonsense. Imam was batting, not Inzi.... Jeezzzzz man PP experts will go any level to humiliate who they don't like.

150 runs to get with 9 wickets in hand. Perfect scenario for a bottler to show his class in a run chase.
