Afghanistan (106/2) emphatically defeat Sri Lanka (105) by 8 wickets in the Asia Cup 2022

Asia Cup 2022 will get underway on Saturday evening with the clash between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan at the Dubai International Stadium.

Both Mohammad Nabi and Dasun Shanaka would hope for their sides to show a spirited display and get off to a winning start in the tournament. Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are placed in Group B alongside Bangladesh.

In the T20 World Cup that was played last year in the UAE, teams batting second had a huge advantage because of the dew so it needs to be seen whether the history repeats itself in the Asia Cup. Sri Lanka and Afghanistan have played just one T20I against each other in which, Sri Lanka emerged triumphant.

Looking forward to this. Sri Lanka are the better all round side but you never know with Afghanistan. They're perfectly capable of winning against both SL and Ban.

The 3 games in this group are all going to be extremely tight.
 
It will be interesting to see how the pitch plays. I've heard there isn't much dew around.

I thought its a SL-AFG game. I tuned the pre match show in Utsav Gold and all they talked about is India, Virat Kohli's 100 T20 and little bit about Pakistan.

How would other teams feel yaar :facepalm:

Wow, that delivery was quite the jag back. Sri Lanka in massive trouble and it'll get even tougher when the spinners come on.

This new kookaburra ball that was unveiled in the 2020/21 season has brought bowlers back into the game especially in white ball cricket.
 
I think Afghans are the dark horse in this tournament. They can beat India and Pakistan too.

Yes.
Afg vs Pak will be interesting... somehow Afghani fans get riled up when the match is against Pak, they came close last 2 times but couldn't cross the line, let' see time time.

New? Didn’t know about it. Can you please shed bit more light on it or a reference article?

Should do the same with the red ball as it becomes completely dead during the middle overs unless there is some reverse

That was clearly not out. All three umpires are bad
 
Afghanistan now decent with new ball pace bowling as well so now a much more rounded attack in T20s then just being spin heavy

Listen to the commentary, that was a tremor and the tremor was there all along, even before the ball crossed the path.

These 2 Afghani new ball bowlers should be inducted to IPL draft 2023.

They have variations and pace :)
 
On field umpire giving it out, batsman taking too long to review and a slight murmur played a role I believe.

They have umar gul as their coach for bowling.

Afghanistan had the talent for pacers, but when they came under indian influence they packed with spinners and ignored their pacers.

Dawlat zadran, hamid hassan, izatullah were good pacers of the psst.

Good to see afghanistan is now back at playing good pacers

Naveen has been playing different T20 leagues for some time. Not extremely accurate but has some variations.

Farooqi swings it both ways which is important with new ball. Death bowling is something he will have to work upon. He basically put Srl on back foot here

True. Good for Umer Gul. Success will make his CV more stronger for other bowling coach roles as well and for Pak good to have some pace bowling coaching backup being developed.
 
Naveen isnt special, if he isnt going to swing than he needs to be express. Or else these kind of bowlers are rotting in pakistan...nothing special. Maybe in death he is good?

Afghanistan's batting is pretty weak.


Sri Lanka must be sensible and ensure they get to 140 atleast instead of over attacking. They need to play Rashid sensibly.

Yes, havent looked anything special in internationals and leagues other than maybe U19 WC where his height and accuracy was good enough for young ones. Neither swings is much nor has much pace. Yes has some variety of slow balls which can work handy at death sometimes. Can work with his height if he improves his accuracy and Gul can somehow show him some drills to increase few kph.
 
Srl has some young pacers too today. Inspired from Malinga, Pathirana and left arm pacer Madushanka who has created bit of waves in Srl domestic circuit recently.

Between 2013 -2019, the kookaburra was its worst. The ball used in the 2019 World Cup was slightly glossier and slightly more helpful to the quicks.

Kookaburra white ball and red ball are pretty similar AFAIK. There is also Cricviz data from ODI cricket in England to suggest that the white ball has swung a lot in 2021 and 2022 and the last time it swung ss much was back in 2013.
