Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the itinerary for Afghanistan's all-format tour in June.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have revealed the detailed itinerary for Afghanistan's tour of Bangladesh that's set to kick off on 14 June with the one-off Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

Afghanistan will arrive on 10 June for the series and will travel to India while the Bangladesh tour breaks for Eid-ul-Adha. They are set to return to Bangladesh on 1 July, four days before the commencement of the three-match ODI series, with all the games set to be played in Chattogram.

The tour also consists of a two-match T20I series in Sylhet that culminates on 16 July.

Full schedule:

14-18 June: One-off Test, Dhaka

5 July: First ODI, Chattogram

8 July: Second ODI, Chattogram

11 July: Third ODI, Chattogram

14 July: First T20I, Sylhet

16 July: Second T20I, Sylhet

Before arriving in Bangladesh, Afghanistan will face Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series starting 2 June.

Afghanistan have fond memories of the last time they travelled to Bangladesh to play Test cricket. In the only time, the two nations clashed in the longer format, Afghanistan recorded a thumping 224-run win against Bangladesh.

In ODIs, the Tigers hold a 7-4 win record head-to-head while Afghanistan enjoy a 6-3 record in the shortest format.

Injury forces Shakib Al Hasan to be sidelined

While the squads are yet to be announced, Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is in a race against time to be fit for the one-off Test due to a finger injury he suffered during the ODI series against Ireland.

ICC

Bangladesh's cricket board said Wednesday that the upcoming tour by Afghanistan has been trimmed to avoid player "burnout" ahead of the Asia Cup and World Cup.

Afghanistan were scheduled to play two Tests, three one-day internationals and three Twenty20 internationals when they tour Bangladesh in June.

But the board said the visitors would now play only one Test, three ODIs and two T20Is in two phases in June and July.

"They were keen to play all the matches. But we had to reduce some matches to save the players from burnout," cricket operations chief Jalal Yunus told AFP.

"This is a World Cup year, and we also have the Asia Cup coming. So we felt we needed to keep the players fresh," he said.

Afghanistan will play the Test from June 14 to 18, return home for the Eid al-Adha festival and then come back to complete the series in Chittagong and Sylhet by July 18.

They have so far played only one Test against Bangladesh, which they won by 224 runs in Chittagong in 2019.

The Asia Cup is due to be held in Pakistan in September and the World Cup in India the following month. It is unclear however whether India will travel to Pakistan and vice versa.

Opportunity for Bangladesh to avenge the last Test defeat against the Afghans.

Should be a close series.

Dhaka: Wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das will be captaining Bangladesh in the upcoming one-off Test against Afghanistan starting from June 14 in Dhaka. Das' elevation to captaincy comes after premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan's finger injury ruled him out of action for at least six weeks during the ODI series against Ireland in Chelmsford last month.

In the 15-member squad led by Das, Bangladesh have included uncapped players, batter Shahadat Hossain Dipu and pacer Musfik Hasan. Taskin Ahmed and Zakir Hasan make a return to the Test team after recovering from side strain and thumb injury respectively, with no places for Shadman Islam and Rejaur Rahman Raja.

Shahadat, 21, is a right-handed middle-order batter who made his first-class debut in 2021, after being a member of the Bangladesh side winning the 2020 Men's U-19 World Cup in South Africa. He has scored 1265 runs from 20 first-class games with two hundreds and 10 half-centuries.

Afghanistan have been fined 20 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against Sri Lanka in the first ODI in Hambantota on Friday.

Ranjan Madugalle of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Hashmatullah Shahidi’s side was ruled to be one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

Hashmatullah pled guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires Nitin Menon and Prageeth Rambukwella, third umpire Michael Gough and fourth umpire Lyndon Hannibal leveled the charge.

Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi is confident of his side's chances against Bangladesh in their return to Test cricket after more than two years, despite resting key leg spinner Rashid Khan.

"Expectation is high, we are here to play good cricket and want to win the game," Shahidi told reporters in Dhaka on Monday.

Afghanistan take on their hosts in a one-off Test series on Wednesday, their first Test match since facing Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi in March 2021.

"We had a lot of gaps," Shahidi said. "We play domestic first-class games and lots of players are involved in that."

The Afghanistan team -- from a country still feeling the after-effects of decades of conflict and the 2021 Taliban takeover -- have won three of six Tests since being granted Test status in 2018.

Those wins include their only previous Test against Bangladesh.

Rashid has played in five of Afghanistan's six Test matches, picking up 34 wickets at an average of 22.35, but is being rested for the game after a gruelling campaign in the Indian Premier League.

His exploits include 11 wickets in the Test against Bangladesh, which they won by 224 runs in Chittagong in 2019.

"It will be challenging," Shahidi said. "We all know that Rashid is one of the main bowlers. He did very well in the past in Test matches. Still, we have another option like wrist spinners and they will perform well, inshallah (God willing)."

Shahidi, who scored an unbeaten 200 in the Zimbabwe Test, said the 2019 win over their hosts would inspire the side to do well again here.

"It inspires us, because we played only one Test here and we won that. So that gives us a lot of confidence," he said.

Bangladesh will be without their main all-rounder and captain, Shakib Al Hasan, who has been nursing a finger injury.

Stand-in skipper Liton Das said they would take Afghanistan seriously despite Rashid's absence.

"We will take Afghanistan the same way we would have taken them if Rashid Khan was present," said Rashid.

"We also had a gap in Tests -- we last played a Test match in April and had to switch to white-ball cricket. But I think we are at least ahead of them, as we have been playing Test cricket regularly for many days," he said.

Bangladesh defeated Ireland in their last Test match, but have lost eight of their previous nine matches.

Bangladesh squad: Liton Das (captain), Tamim Iqbal, Zakir Hasan, Najmul Hossain, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Khaled Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Mahmudul Hasan, Shahadat Hossain and Mushfik Hasan.

Afghanistan squad: Hashmatullah Shahidi (captain), Rahmat Shah, Afsar Zazai, Ikram Alikhil, Ibrahim Zadran, Abdul Malik, Baheer Shah, Nasir Jamal, Karim Janat, Zahir Khan, Izharulhaq Naweed, Hamza Hotak, Ibrahim Abdulrahimzai, Yamin Ahmadzai, and Nijat Masood.

A solitary Test being played between them soon. Completely irrelevant, not even part of any WTC. Not sure what's the point of it.

It is Afghanistan's first Test in over 2 years though.

Afghans bowled poorly. Fielding was poor too apparently.

No Rashid Khan also. But, then again, BD also don't have Shakib.

A practice match between two minnows. It is important in terms of getting practice. Bangladesh is slowly starting to move away from relying too heavily with spin. Last time Afghanistan wrecked them with their spin attack in 2019.

This Shanto kid is the next big thing from BD? Seems to be always a headline about him on cricinfo each time bd plays these days. His AVG doesn't scream much though. Any bd posters take on this?

Shanto's average is bad because he was very bad during his early days.

It was only recently he started to do well.

BAN 377/8 (84.3) CRR: 4.46

Bangladesh, 400+ would help them secure this game.

Afghanistan has been totally outplayed by Bangladesh so far.
Very disappointing playing by them.
Bowlers were wayward, batsmen were clueless.

Did you expect any different?

I was expecting a better fight from Afghanistan. They are better than this normally.

Are they suitable to be a Test team?

I think they are better than Zimbabwe and Ireland. They have won Tests against those teams.

They also beat Bangladesh in a Test before but I think current BD team are slightly better.

Carnage to say the least.

Declaration should come soon unless Ban want some net practice.

2 hundreds for Shanto in this game!

Honestly speaking,I didn't expect such a lackluster ordinary performance from them. Last time they beat us. That's why I was expecting a good fight. This time ,it's like we are playing against a club level team.

BD - 374/4 (68.3 overs).

Lead is now worth 610 runs.

I think they should keep on batting. It is just Day 3.

Should declare and start bowling.

Finally!

Afghanistan have been set a massive target of 662.

Mission impossible for Afghanistan - really the question is will they take the game past Tea on Day 4.

Did Nabi retire from test? Also, I thought Rashid Khan was the captain. Injured?

Afghanistan will decide tomorrow regarding concussion substitute of skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi as he retired hurt after being hit by a Taskin Ahmed bouncer on Day 3 of the Test match against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Friday.

The incident occurred during the third ball of the sixth over, as Shahidi failed to duck under the bouncer from Taskin, hitting him on the back of his helmet. Shahidi took his eyes off the ball that didn't bounce much, and struck him on the head. Shahidi, however, was able to walk off the field without assistance.

The visitors did not take a concussion substitute immediately as Nasir Jamal went to bat following his departure but might have to take one if condition of Shahidi deteriorates overnight.

Massive victory for Bangladesh!

That is one sorry scorecard..

And why on earth were Rashid, Mujeeb, Nabi and Noor not included in the squad?

On the fourth day of their one-off Test against Afghanistan at Mirpur, Bangladesh secured a 546-run win against their Asian rivals.

This 546-run win was the third-biggest by the margin of runs for a Test nation, and the biggest win by the margin of runs in this century. This is also the biggest win in such a manner for an Asian side.

Bangladesh did not put a foot wrong after being asked to bat first at Mirpur on day one of the Test by Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi. A big century from Najmul Hossain Shanto (146) led their charge in the first innings, as the Tigers posted 382 in their first innings.

In response, Afghanistan could muster merely 146, with Afsar Zazai’s 36 being the highest score. Bangladesh pacers Ebadot Hossain (4/47) and Shoriful Islam (2/28) took crucial top-order wickets.

Bangladesh’s aggressive batting in their second dig furthered the advantage of the 236-run lead. Shanto (124), Mominul Haque (121 unbeaten), Zakir Hasan (71) and Litton Das (66 unbeaten) helped their team declare at 425/4 in merely 80 overs. With this, they set their opponents a mammoth target of 662 runs.

Afghanistan were even worse in their second effort with the bat and were bowled out for merely 115. Bangladesh’s charge was led by their pacers, Taskin Ahmed (4/37) and Islam (3/28), once more.

Afghanistan literally shredded here. Shanto is indeed in incredible form and appears to be a great future prospect for Bangladesh.

This is the third largest victory (by runs) in history of Test cricket.

Incredible.

Bangladesh have announced a 15-member squad for the three-game ODI series against Afghanistan.

Tamim Iqbal will lead the side for the three-match series, all set to begin from 5 July. The series also sees the return of star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.

Shakib missed the one-off Test against Afghanistan due to a finger injury sustained during the ODI series against Ireland in May.

Injury forces Bangladesh all-rounder to be sidelined
The Tigers will look to continue their fine limited overs run, which has seen them win ODI series against the likes of India and Ireland in recent months.

Afghanistan's tour of Bangladesh began with a one-off Test, which was won by a massive margin of 546 runs by the hosts. The three-match ODI encounter will be followed by a three-match T20I series.

Bangladesh squad:

Tamim Iqbal (c), Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Towhid Hridoy, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain Chowdhury, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam, Afif Hossain Dhrubo, Naim Sheikh

Schedule for the ODI series:

First ODI, 5 July, Chattogram

Second ODI, 8 July, Chattogram

Third ODI, 11 July, Chattogram

Afg white-ball team gave SL a hard time. Hope they show up with the white ball at least.

Naveen ul Haq plays IPL. He come he is a back up reserve and not in the main squad?

Current BD ODI team is now a contender of this ODI WORLDCUP...It will not be that easy for Afghanistan to give a hard run to bd in their home .

Saw highlights of this game. The Afghans basically bowled half volleys and half trackers the whole game.

Wtv happened to mahmudulla? Haven't seen his name in any bd playing 11 for a while. Last time if I remember was against us when we went to visit bd and lost 2-1 thanks to that Mehdi Hasan kid.

He was a fine finisher for you guys. Is he injured?

His strike rate at no 7 put him out of the team selection. Selectors give miraz that role. They don't want riyadh to play anymore. May be afif or naim shekh will take the number 7 position in the asia cup and world cup and miraz will bat at no 8. There is no place for riyadh according to the selectors.

They are better. But in india the gap between current BD team and NZ,SA,ENG,AUS are not that much. So yeah BD is a contender of this world cup.

Damn, that's alot of experience to miss out on from the WC. Why not play him in middle order? I remember that CT match where he and Shakib won you guys from an almost impossible situation against NZ. He played in middle order then no?

Yup ..he played middle order that time and succeeded. But he always played at no 7 through out his career. Selectors don't consider him middle order batsman. Actually selectors think he is finished now. Most Bangladeshis want him but selectors have other plans.

Why don't they try winning Asia cup first maybe then you can talk, even the SRL that's playing Asia cup has won Asia cup.

LOL, pitches in India are not like BD or UAE....those will be batting belters. Considering the matches will be played in Oct/Nov, dew will make it even tough for spinners. All the teams you mentioned - NZ,SA,ENG,AUS will out bat Bangladesh. So, no BD is not a contender at all for world cup and would need a miracle to get into semi's.

You have no idea about current BD team. Whatever the pitch,bd players are now ready for it .

BD has a world class pace attack now. We could go in with a 4-man seam attack if the conditions warrant it.

I wouldn't say Bangladesh are a contender. But, I expect them to do better than how they did in 2019 World Cup.

ODI team seems more settled now than what it was in 2019.

I admittedly don't follow BD cricket much but who are these world class fast bowlers? If you can name them that will be helpful.
