[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Sri Lanka tour of Bangladesh (2024)

Mehidy Hasan Miraz to Dhananjaya, no run, was there an edge? The replay shows that there was certainly an edge. Oh my word! Why did Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz didn't appeal? The keeper should surely know if there's a deflection. Was a back of a length ball around off, Dhananjaya made a bit of room as he tried to run it down to third man but edged it straight to Litton Das. That's a big blunder
BD hv given up on this test long ago. They don't want to come out to bat today and face the music soon. They want the broadcasters to earn more by stretching the test till tomorrow.

48 overs left - 372/6 - a one sided boring game now - wonder what the not so bright Arnold thinks of this pitch now !

Mendis on 80 - hopefully they declare when he gets his ton ... 375/6 - new ball due

who is this BD commie who says words like as if he is chewing them & spitting out ? 397/7 & Miraj bowling with new ball .

what a game Mendis is having. back to back hundreds. Brilliant. Sri Lanka should declare now

Sri Lanka pair achieve rare milestone in Sylhet

Sri Lanka's Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis became just the third pair to partner in two 150-plus run stands in the same Test.

Bangladesh achieved early success on day three of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Sylhet, when they sent back night watchman Vishwa Fernando for merely four.

However, just like the first innings, Sri Lanka skipper Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis came together and helped Sri Lanka out of the trouble. Their positive strokeplay gave the island nation a big advantage in the game, as the lead bloomed past 300 by the 54th over. When their partnership hit the 150-run mark in the 77th over, it was only the third time in the history of the game that two 150-plus stands had been achieved in the same Test by the same pair.

The 173-run stand was eventually broken when Dhananjaya dished a Mehidya Hasan Miraz delivery straight to Zakir Hasan. By then, Dhananjaya de Silva had scored 108, to follow up on his first innings effort of 102. This was the first time since 2014 that a Sri Lanka player had scored a hundred in each innings of a Test. The last time a player achieved this feat, was back in 2014 when Kumar Sangakkara (319 and 105) against the same opposition in Chattogram.

AT tea break: SRI LANKA is 338/7 and leading by 430 runs. Bangladesh already needs to score record runs to win this game.

There is only a 3 day turnaround between Tests. No need to declare. There is plenty of time to bowl BD out. SL going baout it the right way.

dicey forecast day 5 ... any case , anything over 400 is beyond BD
There is a counter narrative. The longer SL bats, the more exhausted BD players will become (both mentally and physically). The cracks on the pitch will also widen up and will lead to variable bounce. It will be a nightmare to chase on Day 4 and 5. Moreover, chance of a full day washout on Day5 looks unlikely.

At stumps on Day 3, Sri Lanka have picked up 5 Bangladeshi wickets with 47 on the board in reply. We need just 5 more wickets to seal the win!

Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka, 1st Test, Day 3 Stumps

Bangladesh are in dire straits at Stumps on Day 3 as they need 464 more runs to win with 5 wickets in hand. Earlier, Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis scored hundreds and helped Sri Lanka set the hosts a target of 511.

The whole day intact was about the Lankans. First it was Dhananjaya and Mendis. The two piled on the misery on the hosts and took the lead to 500 and then they had a few overs to bowl to the hosts and Fernando ran through the top order. More of the same is what Lanka would want on Day 4. They would love to end this in the first session itself. Bangladesh on the other hand, will be hoping to show some fight.

Getting brutally thrashed like a minnow. That too at home.

This has got to be very disappointing for BD.

Struggling in all formats now.

When the team spends most of its time mocking others, celebrating very small victories as if they are world beaters, whining about opposition, timing out opposition, there is very little time to improve their game. BD is probably one the most talentless bunch of sportsmen ever to represent any sport. Their team is full of entitled brats. But if you read comments from their fans and players you would think they are world beaters. It’s pathetic the way they playing at home.

SL completely blew BD away. They may get a massive win (350+ runs).

Great performance from SL.

Bangladesh require 329 runs to win with 1 wicket remaining in the first Test against Sri Lanka in 2024.

It's Bangladesh. They are used to getting trashed by other teams. They only thrive in celebration of mediocrity. It always warms my heart to see them shown their place in the pecking order

Bangladesh bolstered by return of star all-rounder for second Sri Lanka Test

Bangladesh make two changes to their 15-member squad for the second Test against Sri Lanka in Chattogram.
In a big boost to Bangladesh’s hopes of drawing the Test series against Sri Lanka as Shakib Al Hasan makes a comeback to the squad for the second match, starting 30 March.

Shakib returns to international cricket for the first time since the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in November 2023. His campaign was cut short ahead of Bangladesh’s last World Cup match against Australia due to a left index finger injury.

Earlier this year in January, he was diagnosed with a retinal condition but the Bangladesh medical team were “optimistic about managing the condition effectively with a conservative approach.”

Shakib, who last played a Test in April 2023, comes back at the expense of Tawhid Hridoy, who was in the 15-member squad for the first match but did not feature in the XI.

The Tigers have been forced into making another change to the squad with Mushfik Hasan ruled out due to a left ankle injury. Hasan Mahmud has been named as his replacement, who brings experience from his 39 appearances in ODIs and T20Is for Bangladesh but is yet to make his Test debut.

Bangladesh squad for the second Test: Najmul Hossain Shanto (Captain), Zakir Hasan, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Shadman Islam, Litton Das, Mominul Haque, Shakib Al Hasan, Shahadat Hossain, Mehidy Hassan Miraz, Nayeem Hasan, Taijul Islam, Shoriful Islam, Khaled Ahmed, Nahid Rana, Hasan Mahmud.

Reinvigorated by the changes, Bangladesh hope to bounce back in the series after a dominating performance by Sri Lanka in the first Test.

Agreed (in particular, the bold parts). Nothing to be surprised about this result. It would have been a miracle had SL lost (even though they are at their lowest level in terms of performance over the last few years) this game. They are BD after all, not some world-beater test team known for their envious test records (even at their home conditions).

Injured pacer replaced in Sri Lanka’s squad for second Test

Sri Lanka have replaced injured seamer Kasun Rajitha with Asitha Fernando for the second Test against Bangladesh.
Fast bowler Kasun Rajitha will miss the second Test match against Bangladesh in Chattogram after an injury to his upper back area.

The pacer is set to head home for rehabilitation. 26-year-old right-arm pacer Asitha Fernando has been named as his replacement.

Fernando was ruled out of the first Test with an injury and was expected to miss the entire series, but has recovered quicker and will join the rest of the squad.

Fernando has 41 wickets in 13 Test matches and last featured in the one-off Test against Afghanistan.

Kasun Rajitha was at his very best with the new ball.

Rajitha’s absence is a huge blow for Sri Lanka, who registered their first win of the ICC World Test Championship cycle in Sylhet last week. The injured fast bowler had starred with a five-wicket haul in the second innings of the Test match.

The Chattogram Test will begin on March 30.

Bangladesh excited to have Shakib back for second Test against Sri Lanka

Shakib Al Hasan returns for Bangladesh for the Chattogram Test match and will play his first red-ball game in nearly a year.

Bangladesh's interim head coach Nic Pothas is happy to have experienced all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan back in the Test squad as they prepare to recover from a heavy loss in the first match of the ICC World Test Championship series against Sri Lanka.

"I think any team that has Shakib in it is very fortunate," Pothas said.

"We welcome him back. It is always great to have him in the change room. His energy is very infectious. He has a lot of experience for the guys to learn from and whenever Shakib is back, he's a giver, and so we really enjoy having him around the group."

Shakib hasn't played international cricket for a while after being diagnosed with a retinal condition in January this year.

The head coach said that it appeared like Shakib has lost weight and was pleased with his form in the recently concluded Bangladesh Premier League.

"He's the professional that he is. He knows what he's done and what he hasn't done. He will adapt to the conditions. That's why he's world class," Pothas said.

"When Shakib comes into the group, it creates calmness. You know, it also supplies Shanto with an extra person he can get advice from. A very, very experienced person on the field he just brings calm."

Meanwhile, he also requested patience from the fans with the young group of players in the Test squad after their big loss in Sylhet against Sri Lanka.

"We have a very young and inexperienced group," Pothas pointed out.

"There was a very elite group before this. Now we have to build. The only thing that we request is that people are patient.

"These are very good young players, but they are young and they're playing against an experienced team and it will take time to learn lessons. We wouldn't expect any different from our children when we put them into new environments. We don't expect our kids to suddenly be experts."

Bangladesh are currently level with Sri Lanka in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 Standings with one win and two losses in three Tests.

The second Test begins in Chattogram on Saturday, 30 March.

BD drop replace a pacer with Shakib , effectively lengthening the batting with Miraz now coming in at 8 . Weather forecast anyone ? 8/0

nice deck , BD dropped a simple catch & missed a easy runout - 56/0 & 400+ loading . Draw here ?

50 is up for Nishan Madushka. Good going Sri Lanka so far. 83/0 with lunch coming up in few overs.

Lunch break on Day 1 of the 2nd Test match:

The opening batters have laid a solid foundation for what promises to be a substantial total. Aside from the missed opportunity by Mahmudul Hasan Joy, there were no real threats for the opening duo. Expecting a huge score in the first inning.

rather tedious watch when in 1st hour you know it is a road & 400 on easily ...

Dropping a bowler for Shakib who has bowled 4 overs out of 5 - pathetic . 177/1

Taiijul limps off - done ankle fielding . 244/2 - BD might as well concede the Test & play 2 T20'S in next 40 days !!!

Brilliant knocks from Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis put Sri Lanka in command

Looks like a road. If SL is scorint so freely BD can do so. There is not much in the pitch. If SL manages to get 500+ on the board then the scoreboard pressure and the fact that they need to play last may put pressure on BD.

BAN vs SL, 2nd Test, Day 1: Sri Lanka went into stumps on the first day with their score at 314 for 4 in 90 overs. Debutant Hasan Mahmud picked up 2 wickets. Nishan Madushka, Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis scored fifties for the visitors

Sri Lanka maintained their momentum at the outset of the final session, with Kusal Mendis and Angelo Mathews capitalizing on loose deliveries and keeping the run rate high. Despite Bangladesh's efforts, they missed a crucial chance to dismiss Mathews, further bolstering Sri Lanka's position. The partnership between Mendis and Mathews flourished, surpassing the 50-run mark, marking the third half-century stand for the visitors. However, Shakib Al Hasan produced a beauty, claiming the vital wicket of Mendis, who departed agonizingly close to a century, falling short at 93. This breakthrough briefly swung the momentum in favor of the hosts, but Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal weathered the storm. With the introduction of the second new ball, the debutant Mahmud struck once more, removing Mathews from the crease. Despite this setback, Sri Lanka's Chandimal and skipper Dhananjaya de Silva held firm till the close of play, ensuring their side concluded the day's proceedings without further loss.

Kusal Mendis will be kicking himself after missing out on a century against Bangladesh. Maybe he succumbed to the pressure of a nervous 90s.
ATM, Dhananjaye, and CHandimal are looking solid on the crease.

Sri Lanka is 350/4, looking for a huge 1st inning score.

before start of play BD commie was hyping the debutant pacer & saying in these overcast conditions , we must get them around 375  score 375/5

2 guys with 2 back 2 back tons on crease - can the hopeless BD get them for around 460-470 & then try to draw this Test ? 385/5

408/5 & 26 overs done for the day , time to start throwing their bats at everything & declare in next 14 overs !

Another century loading for Dhanajaye. He is having a dream series, courtesy of flat road like pitch.

On the second day, Sri Lanka went into lunch with a score of 411 for 5. Despite losing Chandimal, the team has made progress thanks to Dhananjaya and Kamindu Mendis.

I might have jinxed Dhananjaye. He is now gone for 70 on the 3rd ball for the 2nd session. Sri Lanka is 417/6 atm.

achchaa kiya (y) . 50 overs left , why are these 2 not slogging ? partnership 25 in 9.3 overs ....
it is kind of boring game so far tbh. No real venom in the pitch and Bengla bowlers are toothless anyways.

I think sri lanka lost the plot here somewhat. Lost few wickets. Now they will be looking anything above 500.

VhHRiat.png

This is going to be another humiliating defeat for BD at home. Heads have to roll for this. Either that or just quit the format and focus on ODI's and more importantly T20's where they are equally terrible but there's some hope at least.

now Kamindu not taking singles ... ICC should kick both these teams out & get associates in their place . Takes a single on 5th ball - strike rotation
