[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Sri Lanka tour of Bangladesh (2024)

If there's no spin, Theeksana should pack that midwicket region ,bowl at the stumps and force Shanto to hit through the offside.

SL not paying it smartly especially with all this dew.

BD need 45 runs from 13.1 overs. 6 wickets in hand.

They should win this from here.

2 degrees of spin in 1st innings

Only 0.8 degrees of spin now.

Massive difference.

Where did you get this statistics? Source?

Most SL wickets fell to BD pacers (9 out of 10). Spinners took 1 wicket only.

Chattogram/Chittagong is not much spin-friendly like Mirpur.

Mushfiqur Rahim now has 7717 runs from 269 ODI games. 229 catches and 56 stumpings.

I think he is the 3rd best ODI keeper-batter ever statistically (behind Gilchrist and Dhoni).

Great innings today. Not out for 68*.

I forgot to add Sangakara (who is perhaps the best ODI keeper-batter of all time after Dhoni).

A brilliant win by Bangladesh by 6 wickets against their arch rivals of late Sri Lanka

BD win by 6 wickets and go up 1-0.

Captain Shanto scored 122* (his highest ODI score).

After losing the T20I series, Bangladesh got off to a good start in the ODI series winning the opening game in Chattogram by a comfortable margin.

Their all-round show was first set up by the bowlers who restricted Sri Lanka to just 255 before an unbeaten hundred from skipper Najmul Hossain carried them home with 32 balls to spare.

With dew coming in, the chase was relatively on the easier side but Bangladesh made good use of it with Shanto partnering Mushfiqur Rahim in an unbeaten 165-run stand in the chase for the fifth wicket. The partnership was even more significant because Bangladesh had been reduced to 23/3 at one point before the rebuild occurred.

Shanto played his part in a vital 59-run stand with Mahmudullah, who hit a run-a-ball 37, to steady the ship before joining hands with Rahim with the Sri Lankan bowlers finding the going tough as the dew settled in.

Before that stand though, Bangladesh had their pacers to thank for. Having been asked to bowl, the early momentum was against them. Sri Lanka's openers began well putting on a 71-run stand before Tanzim Hasan Sakib struck twice in quick succession to get rid of both.

With the well-set pair dismissed the visitors stuttered briefly before a 69-run stand between Kusal Mendis and Janith Liyanage rescued them. Both batters failed to carry on after getting to their fifties which allowed Bangladesh to stage a recovery at the business end of the game. Shoriful Islam and Taskin Ahmed struck at regular intervals to clean up the lower order as Sri Lanka lost their last five for just 34 runs.

The target eventually proved to be easier once the conditions became more favourable during the chase.

Brief Scores: Sri Lanka 255 all out (Janith Liyanage 67, Kusal Mendis 59; Tanzim Hasan 3-44) lost to Bangladesh 257/4 (Najmul Hossain Shanto 122, Mushfiqur Rahim 73) by 6 wickets.

Bangladesh would have loved it if their score was 79/0 after 13. But they lost 2 wickets in the process. 300 possible?

looks like huge dew in the field in the evenings. Any team batting second has a distinct advantage. Kind of makes it a gamble.. SL still have done well to come back from 3 for 40 odd...

SL need 69 runs from 86 balls. 7 wickets in hand.

SL - 219/3 (35.4 overs; target: 287).

2nd ODI: Nissanka 114, Asalanka 91 help Sri Lanka level series 1-1 vs Bangladesh

Sri Lanka bounced back in the second ODI against Bangladesh to level the series 1-1 as opener Pathum Nissanka championed the chase by hitting a sublime century, while Charith Asalanka rose to the occasion with a 91-run knock.

The game started off on a rocky path for Bangladesh, losing Litton Das for a golden duck on the third ball of the innings. Soumya Sarkar stepped up for his team, sharing a crucial 75-run partnership for the second wicket with Najmul Hossain Shanto. Sarkar departed, making 68 runs off 66 balls, leading the team's score to 189 for 6 before Towhid Hridoy took the baton. Hridoy remained undeterred, scoring an unbeaten 96 runs off 102 balls along with some fine contributions from Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Taskin Ahmed. Their efforts propelled Bangladesh to post a competitive 286 for 7 in 50 overs.

For Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga stood out with the ball, registering four for 45, and was well-supported by Dilshan Madushanka, who bagged 2 for 30, while Pramod Madushan picked up one wicket.

The Lankan chase faced an initial hiccup with Avishka Fernando's wicket falling in the second ball. However, this was surprisingly not a precursor to a downfall for Sri Lanka. Pathum Nissanka and Charith Asalanka waged a counterstrike with their vital fourth-wicket partnership of 185 runs, which completely titled the game against Bangladesh. The occasional losses of wickets thereafter, falling three in quick succession, did not pose a major threat as Dunith Wellalage and Hasaranga offered a steady hold of the reins towards the end. Consequently, Sri Lanka overhauled the target, achieving a thrilling 3-wicket win to level the series.

The bowling performance of the Bangladeshi side saw Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam snap two wickets each, while Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mehidy Hasan Miraz contributed one wicket each. Despite their efforts, Sri Lanka managed to maintain a steady command over Bangladesh to secure their much-needed victory.

Bangladesh make a big squad change ahead of the series decider against Sri Lanka

Bangladesh have added uncapped wicketkeeper batter Jaker Ali Anik in place of Litton Das going into the third and final ODI against Sri Lanka.

With the three-game ODI series against Sri Lanka hanging in balance, Bangladesh have replaced Litton Das with Jaker Ali Anik. Jaker is uncapped at the ODI level but has featured for Bangladesh in T20Is. He has scored 110 T20I runs so far at an average of 55 and a strike rate of 122.22. In List A cricket, Jaker has scored close to 2000 runs at an average of 34.87.

Gazi Ashraf Hossain, Bangladesh's Chairman of the National Selection Panel explained the call.

“With the series now hanging in the balance, we believe Jaker Ali’s addition will provide the team with more options and flexibility in the middle order.”

Bangladesh won the first ODI by six wickets, while they lost the second encounter by three wickets. The series decider will be played on 18 March in Chattogram, which also hosted the first two ODIs.

Squad for third ODI: Najmul Hossain Shanto (Captain), Anamul Haque Bijoy, Soumya Sarkar, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Mushfiqur Rahim, Tawhid Hridoy, Mahmud Ullah, Mehidy Hassan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Rishad Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Mustafizur Rahman, Jaker Ali Anik. ‎

Fellow pacer Hasan Mahmud has been called up in the Bangladesh squad to replace Tanzim for the third ODI.

So, SL won the T20 series 2-1 and BD won the ODI series 2-1.

Focus now shifts to Test series (2-match series). It is also a part of World Test Championship.

Lol, this rivalry has evolved from the 'nagin dance' to timed outs. I guess it's the funniest rivalry in cricket history.

Tanzid Hasan, Rishad Hossain power Bangladesh to series win against Sri Lanka

Rishad Hossain played an attacking innings of 48 after substitute Tanzid Hasan Tamim hit 84 off 81 balls Monday, steering Bangladesh to a four-wicket win and a 2-1 ODI series victory over Sri Lanka.

Set a modest target after Janith Liyanage’s unbeaten 101 guided Sri Lanka to 235 all out in 50 overs, Bangladesh raced to 237-6 in 40.2 overs. Rishad remained unbeaten on 48 off just 18 balls.

The hosts were in danger when Wanindu Hasaranga forced Mehdiy Hasan Miraz, the last recognised batsman, to give a catch to Pramod Madushan for 25, with Bangladesh still 58 runs away from victory.

But Rishad dispatched the first ball he faced over midwicket for six and did not look back.

He hit four sixes and five fours in his whirlwind innings before Mushfiqur Rahim, 37 not out, finished the game with a boundary off Maheesh Theekshana.

Tanzid led the initial charge, replacing Soumya Sarkar in the second innings as a concussion sub, despite Lahiru Kumara wreaking havoc with 4-48.

Liyanage earlier staged a lone battle en route to his maiden century after Bangladesh made regular strikes, with Taskin Ahmed leading the way for the home side with 3-42.

Skipper Kusal Mendis (29) and Charith Asalanka (37) made a good start but lost their wickets before they could build bigger innings.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first, only to lose both openers inside four overs.

Taskin struck early, trapping in-form opener Pathum Nissanka leg-before for one, then dismissing the other opener Avishka Fernando for four in his next over.

Mustafizur Rahman, playing his first match in the series, removed Sadeera Samarawickrama off his first ball for 14 to leave Sri Lanka reeling at 41-3.

Leg-spinner Rishad made Mendis his first ODI wicket, also off his first ball of the game.

Mustafizur ended Asalanka’s counter-attacking innings before Mehidy claimed two back-to-back wickets to expose the tail.

But Liyanage held one end firm to ensure Sri Lanka batted out 50 overs, hitting Taskin over the cover for a four in the final over to reach his century off 101 balls.

Mustafizur and Mehidy claimed 2-39 and 2-38, respectively.

Bangladesh won the opener by six wickets, with Sri Lanka taking the second by three wickets on Friday.

The two teams will now play a two-match Test series, beginning on Friday in Sylhet.

BD have never beaten SL in a Test series. Their best performance in Test was a 1-1 draw. They should win the series this time.

Squad announced for the first Test series against Sri Lanka

Maiden call-up for pacer Nahid Rana

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the squad for the first of the two Tests against Sri Lanka. The 15-man roster includes one new face in 21-year-old fast bowler Nahid Rana. Since making his first-class debut in November 2021, Rana has taken 63 wickets from 15 matches. Litton Kumer Das returns to the side after missing the last Test series

The first Test gets underway in Sylhet on 22 March while the second match begins in Chattogram on 30 March. The Tests are a part of the 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship cycle:

SQUAD (1st Test)

Najmul Hossain Shanto (Captain), Zakir Hasan, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Shadman Islam, Litton Kumer Das, Mominul Haque Showrab, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shahadat Hossain Dipu, Mehidy Hassan Miraz, Nayeem Hasan, Taijul Islam, Shoriful Islam, Syed Khaled Ahmed, Mushfik Hasan, Nahid Rana

Abdur Razzak – Member, National Selection Panel

“We feel that the squad picked for the first Test has a very nice balance. Our Test side is a fairly settled one with Nahid Rana being the only newcomer. Litton (Kumer Das) is back after missing the last Test series we played as he was on leave. All the departments have backups and have been well covered. I think we have a team that can adapt to the requirements of the conditions.”

“Rana is a very exciting prospect. He is probably the quickest bowler in Bangladesh at the moment and can also extract steep bounce. Although these are early days for him, his first-class record is quite impressive. There is another young pacer Mushfik Hasan in the squad. This is the right time for these pacers to get the experience as Ebadot (Hossain) is out injured and Taskin (Ahmed) is also not playing Tests at the moment.”

“We have a stable Test squad now. Litton’s return bolsters the batting as he has the experience and we trust his ability. We also want to back players like Shahadat Hossain Dipu who we think is a batsman for the future.”

Blow for Sri Lanka as Hasaranga is suspended for Bangladesh Tests
All-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who had just announced a return to Test cricket, was found guilty of a Code of Conduct breach

Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been suspended for Bangladesh's two-Test series against Bangladesh, shortly after announcing his decision to return to Test cricket having retired from the format last year.

During the third ODI in the recently-concluded series against Bangladesh, Hasaranga was found guilty of breaching article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match.”

The incident occurred in the 37th over of the game when Hasaranga snatched his cap from one of the umpires and ridiculed the umpiring in the match.

Bangladesh took the series 2-1 after winning the contest by four wickets.

Hasaranga hits 90m six
He received a 50 per cent fine and accumulated three demerit points for his offense. This brought his total demerit points to eight in a 24-month period.

The all-rounder was already on five demerit points after receiving three demerit points in the third T20I against Afghanistan in Dambulla last month. Following this, he was suspended for two T20Is against Bangladesh.

Now, with the addition of the latest demerit points, he has breached the threshold of eight demerit points, which, pursuant to article 7.6 of the Code, have been converted into four suspension points.

The four suspension points equate to a ban from two Tests or four ODIs or T20Is, whatever comes first – Hasaranga will therefore miss the two ICC World Test Championship Tests against Bangladesh.

Sri Lankan spinner comes out of retirement for Bangladesh Tests
Sri Lanka ODI skipper Kusal Mendis also copped a 50 per cent fine and three demerit points for a Level 2 offence after he "abused the umpires while shaking hands with them" at the end of the third match.

This breached article 2.13 of the Code, which relates to “Personal abuse of a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire or Match Referee during an International Match.” This was a first offence for Mendis in a 24-month period.

Both Hasaranga and Mendis admitted their offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.

Epic drama at the end of both T20 and ODI series.Mushfiqur's helmet act yesterday gave me stomach cramps. This is a special rivalry with neither side holding back.

I personally do not think BD team should taunt SL team. Just play the game, win the game, and go home.

This taunting stuff doesn't suit current era.

Let me break this down:

• Hasaranga has demerit points and a suspension waiting for him
• The next international cricket he plays is at the T20WC
• Blud pulls out a 420 IQ move by reversing test retirement so he gets suspended there instead of T20WC.

Sri Lanka has always good tactics to cover themselves.I remember they used to have dummy captians at the toss to avoid slow over fines for the acting captians.

This is the new great rivalry in cricket. Usually more cringe and unintentionally funny than anything else. But its definitely a rivalry with some genuine heat.

Bangladesh received a huge blow ahead of the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka, when 36-year-old Mushfiqur was ruled out.

The experienced player sustained a thumb injury during his side's win in the third ODI against Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh physio Bayjedul Islam Khan confirmed that Mushfiqur will miss the two-Test series against Sri Lanka and is expected to be sidelined for up to four weeks.
