Afghanistan walk away with heads held high after tie in last match of Asia Cup against India

India take on Afghanistan in their last super four game later today in the Dubai International Stadium, Dubai. India have already qualified for the finals and Afghanistan have been eliminated from the competition after their heartbreaking loss against Sri Lanka. So this game in all purpose is just academic. This gives India a chance to test out their bench strength and keep their winning momentum going and for Afghanistan though this gives an opportunity to end the tournament on a winning note.

hopefully afghanistan wins so we don't see either team in the finals
 
Am expecting India to be resting a few players today
 
I think India can try this lineup for this match:

Rahul
Rayudu
Pandey
Dhoni
Rohit
Jadhav
Jadeja
Khaleel
Chahar
Kuldeep
Kaul

Dhawan should definitely be rested. Rohit can also take rest by downplaying himself by coming down the order (As he is needed as captain). This will be a direct test between Rayudu & Rahul (new openers!) Rayudu has not done any wonder in the series to become a default in the finals just because he was in the playing XI till now (same thing applies to DK!) So its a kind of tie-break between these two guys when they are asked to open the innings (also it tests their ability against Afghans who have decent spinners & also they start with spinners in the beginning itself which is a challenge and gives an indication of who can bat at No.3) Also this match (with these openers & lineup) will ensure that the middle order will also be tested and seen if DK is better than Pandey!

Bumrah & Bhuvi should also be rested! Khaleel can be seen if he can be played as additional pacer in place of Chahal in the finals (to surprise & attack Shoaib Malik in the finals!)

I somehow hope this is the lineup for Finals with the best available resources:

By World Cup we should do lot of exercise/fine-tuning with this team, otherwise its going to be a repeat of 2015 (at the most reaching SF)
 
India should rest their main players and give try to youngsta beauties.

Afghans have played excellent tournament so far. Rashid and Mujeeb are world class in SC.

India to win easily.

Dhoni shouldnt have been the captain, he is legendary captain who have given up captaincy so making him make shift captain is pretty odd.
 
Will be the best bowling attack India face this tournament. Middle overs should be a challenge.

He's the only senior player in the playing XI today. What's so odd about having him captain one game?
 
Wow super delighted to see KL Rahul, Khaleel and Pandey in the playing 11. And Thala Dhoni's 200 game as a Captain.

Ego shouldn't be a thing in sport. MSD is best suited for the job, so he is the captain.
 
Believe me pakistani batting would have been the same even against this bowling attack which sums up where we are.

We would have safely negotiated 10 overs for the loss of 1 wicket and 25 runs on the board.

Here Afghan are near 20 already in 2.4 overs.
 
Chahar is seeing his career fade in front of his very own eyes.
 
4 overs for 35 runs.

Pakistan 12 overs to get there against India, 10 against Afghanistan.

Reason : Rebuilding phase/ Consolidation phase.
 
Can't believe that such losers are representing India. Where are Shami, Ishant, Umesh, Mavi, Nagarkoti etc?! :facepalm:

Ishant and Shami are no longer in ODI setup and rightfully so.We need them for Tests.
Umesh is an equally spraygun albeit at a higher speed.
Mavi and Nagarkoti are too young and have not shown anything in A team oppurtunities they got.They still have plenty of time.
 
Afghanistan should have yo yo test . Shahzad won’t qualify will the management drop him then?
 
Afghan batsmen are far better than us!!!! Our batsmen should watch this match closely.
 
Five changes ! That is like half the side changed. And the replacement players are no patch on the players they replaced. It is one of the weakest playing XI from BCCI in a long long time. Khalil and Chahar just do not belong to this level.

Shami has great ODI record and should be in the mix. Can easily skip easier Tests

Umesh the spraygun has much better avg and SR than Bhuvi,does well in ICC tourneys too.

Mavi and Nagarkoti have shown enough in U19 and IPL. The likes of Chahar and Thakur just don't have the required talent.Chahar was bowling knuckle ball in 4th over :facepalm:

Chahar is good. Have seen him in some IPL games. He would do well in England conditions.
 
Afgans really do look like the second best side in Asia. Both the matches they lost were down to inexperience.

Lol.IPL and U19.Did you just compare T20s with ODI.Nagarkoti didnt even play in the IPL and Mavi went for plenty of runs.You can scare kids at U19 with pace, but not seniors.Remember Varun Aaron, our fastest bowler ever, getting blasted to smithereens by Bangladeshi batsmen of all folks?

The reason Chahar is in the team because he bowled well in the recent A team matches and can bat.Our tail is too long and we need bowlers who can bat.But today he has bowled poorly.

Doesn't matter where they come from, both Mavi and Nagarkoti are comfortably better than these guys.

Also, Shami has been our best ODI bowler after Bumrah, and Ishant too can afford to be India's backup. The likes of Chahar and Thakur are nothing bowlers and will be taken apart by most sides.

This Kaul, Chahar chalega nahin bro, for WC IND should bring back Shami & Ishant. Otherwise JB will have to bowl 90 overs in 4 weeks before KOs.

Based on what? Mavi got blasted by South African A batsmen and even Saurashtra batsmen hit him for 70 runs in 10 overs though he took some tail ender wickets at the end.Look how Shaheen Afridi went for runs at this level and he is much taller than Mavi.
At his height and this level, pace alone is not enough.You need to have more skills which at the moment he doesnt have.

So what special do Chahar and Kaul have to compensate for the pace?Knuckle balls?Thats surely terrorising the senior players :)))

If you saw U19WC,you would know Nagarkoti has a great yorker which works against everywhere.Plus he can bat and is a good fielder.Then there are guys like Rajpoot,Saini,Siraj who can crank it up.On pattas ,only pace can save you

Siraj ain’t anything special, I have seen him bowl, need Shami back asap

Even if the U19 kids need time, Shami and Ishant are two vastly superior bowlers.

I understand that fitness maybe a concern for Shami, so he can always be rested more often than he plays.
