Make sure to try the fries from Vlaams Friteshuis and the apple pie from Winkel 43. If you are into coffee would highly recommend Bocca coffee.

Since you are only there for a day, I'd suggest taking a stroll along the dams and exploring the museum district. Amsterdam is one of the top cities I've visited and there is so much more to it than people think.

It's either Turkish kebab houses or Indian/Pakistani restaurants. A few months ago went to an Indian resturant near Centraal where a chap from Lahore bought us some really nice dishes. Not cheap but quaility food, near the Subway in CCentraal, can't remember the name but most are decent.
