All-rounder Andre Russell's participation in the Big Bash was in doubt after he suffered a hamstring injury in Sydney Thunders six-wicket victory over Melbourne Stars.

The 29-year-old chased a ball to third man during the Stars innings but pulled up metres before the boundary ropes, dropping to the ground and clutching his left hamstring on Wednesday.

He was stretchered from the field and the Thunder franchise confirmed afterwards that the player had suffered a hamstring injury and would undergo scans Thursday to determine the extent of the damage.

Russell was already set to undergo scans following the game, to deal with a troublesome knee injury which has plagued him in recent games.

He is the third West Indies star to be struck down by injury during the tournament.

Last week, women's all-rounder Deandra Dottin suffered multiple fractures of her cheekbone in an on-field collision with Brisbane Heat team-mate Laura Harris and was forced to undergo surgery.

He won't be there at PSL, this is worrying for Islamabad United

Bad news for any team that he plays in. Andre Russel has been a lucky charm this past year. Won the tournament for every team he's played in.

Good news for Hussain talat and amad butt ???

Both were not given single match due to russell in the side may be this open the door for them to express themself

blessing in disguise as his injury hampered him so much he did not do anything with bat or ball for thunder

What are the potential replacements ?

Is Chris Morris in the mix ?

Stokes won't be available.

Jimmy Neesham ? Corey Anderson ?

Dwaine Pretoroius or Robbie Frylinck can be decent replacement replacement aswell.

Isn't there a rule for having a number of foreign players in the playing eleven ?

I don't think Corey would play. If he does, that would be awesome. He's world class. Just hit a 97*. Pretty good with the ball too. Perfect twenty20 player.

Albie morkel or lasith malinga?

Albie morkel?

Yeah, he'd be awesome too but I think he's a little old. I mean, we already have Misbah, Watson, Haddin and Azhar Mahmood who could break down anytime in the middle of the tournament. I think Corey Anderson would also be good for the advertisers as he's a little more famous. But yeah, if not him then Morkel would be the go to man.

four are allowed but watson is already their for allrounder role so we might see either of amad or hussain

and rusell may be replace by foreign batsmen

Tanveer Bhaee,

Malinga hasn't played any Cricket in last 11 months.

Morkel's peak is over. His recent performances in SA are just ok.

As a ln Islamabad United supporter I won't have any problem if they pick any of :

Chris Morris, Dwaine Pretorius, Robbie Frylinck, Corey Anderson, Jimmy Neesham, Ben Stokes or even the 20 years allrounder Andile Phehlukwayo whose batting has striking resemblance with Lance Klusener.

Don't think Azhar Mahmood will play.He was brought in as a replacement for Watson.

Islamabad should keep an eye on the guy who smacked 4 sixes in the final. What was his name again?

With United losing Russel and 2 other players no replacement has been reasonable wrt future.

But it gives great opportunity to Amad & Hussain to get few games under there belt. Sadly both of them are having technical issues with their bowling currently.

Limping around and looking unfit.

Bowling at 122kph.

What are the MS management doing, picking him?

Not many would argue that he's one of the most valuable T20 playes in the world...

Russell bowls at poor pace and is not contributing much with the bat. He has been getting smashed every game so far.

Who gets smashed into pieces everytime.

Tbh I never rated his bowling but he is a dangerous batsman capable of changing a game within 1-2 overs and he is very good for balance of the team as he can bowl. Also a tremendous fielder.

Looks like Anwar Ali these days, blind slogging, rubbish bowling and trundling at 120 Kph. Only his fielding is something, which can be regarded as decent.

Well his crappy bowling is terrible. He always has figurea like 3 overs for 30 plus runs conceded. If he then score 25 runs of 10 balls it isnt really good enough to cover his pathetic bowling figures.

Even in the IPL he has at times played when not fully fit. He doesn't seem fully fit and motivated as well. Apparently West Indies will call him up for the last 3 ODIs so don't expect him to be at the PSL for much longer.
