Some high quality players playing at the same time for Zimbabwe. Experienced players like Sikander Raza, Sean Williams, Muzarabani, Sean Ervine are doing great currently with newcomers like Madhewere, Evans, Nagarava and Jongwe are impressive too.
Are we really witnessing resurgence of Zimbabwe Cricket?
Sadly many of Zimbabwe's established players are above 35.

These bunch of players are one of best Zimbabwe have had for a quite a long time now . Ervine, raza, evans , muzarabani , chatara, Willams, ngarva are quality

It’s more down to believing in winning. The current team have many fighters who stand tall when needed.

You never know they could cause a few up sets if they qualify for the WC.

umm no. They are a bad side amongst the test members but a good side amongst the associates

They've been doing incredibly well since last 12 months. It was in July last year when they replaced Rajput with Houghton and after that there is no looking back.

I do agree that most of their star players are over 35, and they've lost Ballance as well but honestly Muzarabani, Burl, Gumbie, Ngarava, Wellington, Evans are all still young to be around until 2027.

They've got certain good youngsters as well, Ben Curran (brother of Tom and Sam) is back playing domestics in ZIM, Brain Bennet is a very fine talent, Dion Myers, Jonathan Campbell (Alistair Campbell's son) is also OK... And there is an U19 talent in Ronak Patel who is making a lot of headlines. So we have to see how they develop.

Their senior players are in super form. This will be an interesting WC to say the least.

What a player Raza is. As clutch as it comes. Scored the highest impact points in world T20, 2022

MVP
Player Team Impact/Mat
1 Sikandar Raza ZIM 71.2
2 Shadab Khan PAK 54.9
3 Suryakumar Yadav IND 61.6
4 Dhananjaya de Silva SL 44.3

Zimbabwe have been in good form in the last year or so.

They won an ODI against Australia in Australia!

I believe they also underachieved in the T20 World Cup. After getting a lucky Draw against South Africa, and winning against Pakistan, they should have won their matches against Bangladesh and Netherlands and made it to the Semi-Final.

But to be honest I always wanted to mention one thing which is always felt Zimbabwe had a good team, even in their worse years from 2016 - 2021, I just felt they always had good players.

But its good to see them in good form now.

Zimbabwe's undefeated run in the tournament continued as they overcame a spirited Oman at Bulawayo.

Oman showed fight with the bat, but weren't able to overcome the mammoth Zimbabwe total in the opening game of the Super Six stage in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023. With this, Zimbabwe have six points in their tally on the Super Six table. This was Zimbabwe's seventh ODI win in a row.

We have to wait and see.

They are heavily reliant on Sikandar Raza who is probably not far from retirement (37 years old).

Also, Zimbabwe only faced associates and West Indies. Easy opponents. Let's see how they do against better opponents.

Zimbabwe's resurgence is heartwarming. Williams and Raza have taken their games to the next level in last 3 years. Dave Houghton is a fantastic coach.

But scoring 400+ and Williams scoring big 100s at that SR isn't a fluke by any means. They've been doing well for last 2-3 years.

Ervine and Williams have been playing forever now. Not much young talent coming especially in batting. What will happen when these two veterans retire ? Reza not young either.

Their bowling has improved massively. But they are relying almost completely on Williams and Raza to win them matches.

Good for Zimbabawe!

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will host bilateral cricket against Zimbabwe for the first time since 2003 following an agreement to play a Men’s Test match in May 2025.

England Men will play Zimbabwe in a four-day Test from 28-31 May 2025, at a venue to be confirmed, and follows discussions between the ECB and Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) to forge closer relations.

ECB Chief Executive Officer, Richard Gould, said: “We are delighted to be able to host Zimbabwe for a Men’s Test match for the first time in two decades.

“Zimbabwe has a proud cricket history and have produced world-class players and coaches who have enriched the game across the world.

“We are committed to developing a closer relationship with Zimbabwe Cricket and the announcement of this Test against our England Men’s team is a step in that ambition.

“This summer’s Ashes series showcased all that is great about Test cricket and, while we must be mindful of the demands of world cricket’s schedule, we also want to help grow Test cricket and find opportunities to play more nations where we can.”

ZC Managing Director, Givemore Makoni, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be playing bilateral cricket in England for the first time in over two decades after we agreed to play a Test match in May 2025.

“The significance and magnitude of this tour cannot be over-emphasised, and I would like to say a huge thank you to the ECB for committing to the resumption of cricketing relations between our countries that date back to the introduction of the game in Zimbabwe in the 1890s.

“The experience of playing a Test match against a top team like England is massive for the current generation of our players, coming at a time when our game as a whole is on an upward trajectory.

“This will be a historic tour for everyone involved with cricket in Zimbabwe and we are already looking forward to some exciting action on the field of play.”

Zim cricket is dead. A golden chance was missed in the late 90s, early 000s to make the game known to the poorer black communities. Instead Mugabe used the board as a cash cow and precious resources were wasted on logos. The Zimbabwe board paid $50,000 for a logo, a logo that could have been designed by child in an art class in 1hr

Excellent news.

Will definitely be getting tickets for this.

Zimbabwe cricket is in far better shape now than what it was just over an year ago. No doubt yet another mess up in the very last game of the Qualifiers means that for the 2nd time running they've had exactly the same heartbreak of not qualifying for the WC, but this time things are far different from what they were in 2018.

Even right now they are having an emerging team tour of South Africa going on. Lights at Harare Sports Club, a good partnership with Qalandars franchise which should help their upcoming players, now resumption of ties with England... There are a lot of good things happening in ZC and it is not the same old doom and gloom which we saw for all these years.

People talk about India's bilateral boycott of Pakistan but the ECB have not arranged any cricket with Zimbabwe since 2004. That is scandalous so this tour is long overdue.

Some Zimbabwean players are making their mark in various domestic leagues around the world, which not only provided them with exposure but also contributed to their skill development which will surely help Zimbabwean Cricket to evolve.

This is part of the on-going T20 world cup African Qualifiers

Some crazy batting by Zimbabwe indeed.

Nepal did extremely well against Nepal :)
