Australia will be a tough game for Argentina.

I think Argentina will win but it wont be easy for sure.

US men’s team is awful. Compare that to their women’s team who are one of the best. It’s funny to see the difference in quality between the two teams.

Gabriel Jesus and Alex Telles have been ruled out of the rest of the World Cup with knee injuries, the Brazil team announced on Saturday. The South American team said the pair, who were hurt during Friday's 1-0 defeat to Cameroon, both underwent tests on Saturday morning that "confirmed their injuries and the impossibility of them recovering for the rest of the World Cup in Qatar". Brazil, who face South Korea in the last 16 on Monday, have problems in defence as Telles' fellow full-backs, Danilo and Alex Sandro, have also had injury problems.

Arsenal forward Jesus featured in all three of Brazil's Group G games but the five-time world champions have a wealth of attacking talent.

Coach Tite has said that star forward Neymar will play again in Qatar after spraining his right ankle in Brazil's opening 2-0 win over Serbia.

Hopes Neymar could feature against South Korea increased after he was seen at the Lusail Stadium with his teammates, walking on the pitch without a limp.

Big blow for Brazil, still should be able to beat Korea though.
 
Netherlands defense is pretty strong, they have only conceded 1 goal so far in the tournament.
 
The Netherlands survived a late scare against the United States

The US had the game's biggest early chance when Christian Pulisic was denied by the legs of Dutch goalkeeper Andries Noppert and the failure to take that opportunity proved highly expensive.

Louis van Gaal's side responded in the finest Dutch traditions in the 10th minute when Memphis Depay crowned a magnificent 21-pass move by turning in Denzel Dumfries' cross.

The US battled hard but lacked a cutting edge and were punished once more in similar fashion with the final kick of the first half when Daley Blind arrived with perfect timing on the end of another Dumfries cut back.

The Dutch were given anxious moments when the US pulled a goal back in the 76th minute as Haji Wright's freak deflection from Pulisic's cross looped in at the far post.

But they restored their two-goal lead five minutes later when creator Dumfries turned scorer, side-footing in a volley at the far post from Blind's cross.

Van Gaal's Dutch march on

Van Gaal has been over this course before with the Netherlands, when he guided them to a World Cup semi-final in Brazil in 2014, only to lose on penalties to Argentina after a goalless draw in Sao Paulo.

And his vast experience means they cannot be under-estimated here as they set up a last eight meeting with either their 2014 conquerors Argentina or Australia, who meet at 19:00 GMT on Saturday.

No-one would pretend this is a classic Dutch side but they have a sprinkling of quality in all areas and the beauty of their first goal, which would have delighted the purists in their homeland, was a graphic demonstration of their capabilities.

Virgil van Dijk is the world-class defensive leader alongside Nathan Ake, while both full-backs Blind and Dumfries made crucial contributions.

Frenkie de Jong brings control to midfield and there is real threat in the shape of Depay, who scored his first goal of this World Cup, and one of the break-out stars of this World Cup, Cody Gakpo.

It was a display that delighted the band of Dutch fans inside Khalifa International Stadium as Van Gaal's side march on.

Pulisic miss proves costly

The States' main man Christian Pulisic looked close to tears after the final whistle as he reflected on the chance that got away in those opening moments, an opportunity that might have made this a very different tie.

Pulisic was sent through on goal by Tyler Adams' clever delivery but the outstretched leg of Dutch keeper Noppert made the block. Pulisic should have scored and he knew it.

The US were soon in arrears and could never get close enough to the Netherlands, apart from Wright's goal, which was heavily laced with good fortune.

The left side of their defence was brutally exposed by the Dutch for all three goals and this, mixed with poor finishing, meant their World Cup ends in the first knockout round.

There is something to build on after getting out of the group stages but there will also be disappointed at the sense of missed opportunity as they make their departure from Qatar.

The goal by the USA did open up the game a little bit but only for three minutes or so, as the Netherlands were quick to reclaim their authority on things. A clinical performance!
 
Netherlands were excellent there. Really turned on the style for the first time this tournament and Van Gaal got the tactical setup absolutely spot on. The three Netherlands goals were superb and they’re going to be a difficult team to beat here.

USA lack ruthlessness up front, but they showed lots of spirit and actually had their chances to make it a different game, particularly Pulisic in the second minute. They never gave up and they will be a better team in 2026 when they co-host the next World Cup.

But too much class from Netherlands in the end. Deserved winners of the first knockout game.
 
The Dutch as expected qualifies for the QF the real dark horses now, the pace of Dutch strikes might punish the slow Argentine defense it could be K.O. project Messi

Would love to see Senegal beating England.

Senegal is a very likeable team with a likeable coach.

Southgate won’t do it but Kane needs to be dropped as well. He doesn’t look fit and just slows the attacking build up. I want to see Rashford’s pace up front.
 
England are favourites in their Round of 16 match but Senegal could spring a surprise for sure.

Although, I believe that Senegal have a couple of key injuries and suspensions.

I think the game will be 2-1 either way.

Argentina haven't been as fluent as they were against Poland. Nonetheless, they are still possessing the ball the most.
 
Ive been impressed by the Aussies in this WC. This is a potential banana skin for the Argentinians.

They must not get complacent.
 
Australia has been the better team in this opening 30 minutes. Crisp passing, comfortable on the ball, and a threat from set pieces.

It could take another piece of Messi magic to unlock this game for Argentina.

It got a bit hairy in the end for Argentina. Lautaro Martinez should have scored three goals in the last 10 minutes, Messi put two for him on a plate, but he missed each time. No wonder he has been dropped to the bench. In the last minute, Australia nearly equalised, but Emiliano Martinez made a brilliant save. Overall, another thrilling game at this world cup.
 
Incredible performance from Lionel Messi.

He's carrying this Argentina team and the hopes of a nation.

Some steady players around him but he is the inspiration.

Lionel Messi produced a moment of magic on his 1,000th career game as two-time champions Argentina beat Australia to reach the World Cup quarter-finals.

Messi, 35, was making his 119th appearance for his country and they needed the help of his brilliance to take them through to the next round and a tantalising tie against the Netherlands on Friday.

Argentina had barely threatened in the first half but Paris St-Germain's Messi stroked in a delightful first-time finish to spark wild celebrations from their fans.

The South American supporters had been on their feet singing all game and they had further delight when Julian Alvarez punished Mat Ryan's mistake to double their advantage.

Australia had offered very little but surprisingly pulled one back with 13 minutes remaining when substitute Craig Goodwin's strike took a huge deflection off Enzo Fernandez.

They could have levelled shortly after through Aziz Behich's incredible solo run, but his shot was superbly blocked by Lisandro Martinez's sliding challenge as Argentina edged through.
